Where?
A/N: I know some of you want me to update sooner and I'll try no promises, the only promise I can make is that I will finish the story.
EnjoyWhere?
Tess closed another drawer while taking a deep breath and looked around. The room looked exactly the same. She was a bit clueless on what was missing, usually she could calculate how long Rebecca would be gone based on what she took.
The only thing that was missing were a couple of shirts and jeans, she took no laptop, her cellphone was sitting on her desk. She took a deep breath, she was truly baffled.Tess gasped a little when a barrage insistent knocking filled the house, the noise became louder and she walked out of Rebecca's bedroom. She stopped a few feet from the door and looked at the door questionably.
"Better not be a disgruntled fuckmate." She took a deep breath; she didn't even bother peeping through the peephole. It didn't matter who it was. She had to deal with it one way or another. Might as well now, she thought. She opened the door expecting a sudden barrage of word and then an ‘oh’ as the individual would realize she was not Rebecca. Tess was fairly surprise to see Emily standing outside. She was favoring her right hand a lot. It was visible that Emily’s excitement turned into a disappointment, not who she was expecting to open the door. "There is a doorbell you know," Tess pointed to the side of the door frame, a very small button was located there after the condo was made. Hence it was always overlooked by whoever knocked. Emily followed Tess gaze and nodded. "Well good to know for next time." They both stood there, Tess cleared her throat and cross her arms over her chest and Emily shook her head realizing Tess was waiting for her to tell her what she wanted. "Is she in?" Emily asked trying to peer behind Tess trying to see if she caught sight of the tall red head. "Rebecca, no she is not, and she won't be." With that Tess started to close the door. She really did not want to deal with the woman who drove her best friend away. “Wait Wait, please don’t.” Emily raised her hand and started to shove her foot in. She knew Tess was judging her and frankly at the moment she didn’t care. She just really needed to speak to Rebecca. She didn’t want to go on contemplating a what if scenario. Tess leaned on the door waiting for the barrage of question that would ensue. "Any idea when she would be coming back?" Emily played with her hands obviously nervous. She was right Tess was judging her. She could feel her eyes staring at her. Tess was studying her, trying to see what Rebecca saw. Trying to understand why Rebecca left. "Her phone's off? Is there any way I can talk to her." Emily now regretted not taking Rachel's advice it was well over two weeks. She was in extreme denial about Rebecca's written words but every night when she got home the damn wine bottle taunted her. It brought back memories, and it sent her in a chaotic and confusing thoughts that irritated her and in the end she would not sleep. She had not been sleeping well, mostly just a few hours a day and then she would lie awake in bed. In the dark she would think of Rebecca, wishing she would stay the night. That she would actually give them a chance, thinking of different scenarios on how it would be so different. If certain events took a different direction. Her work was failing from the lack of sleep and she just could not stand being around or talking to Rachel. She couldn’t stand anyone’s company. Something had changed between her and Rachel it was obvious and they kept trying to act like nothing did. Essentially their friendship was dwindling. Ever since that argument, things would never be the same. She wasn't sad that it was, she felt a change occurring within her and all around her and the one thing she was missing was, Rebecca. She had told Rebecca from the beginning that what she really wanted was a relationship, but Rebecca refused, and then when Emily was focusing on just platonic sexual gratification, Rebecca went and change the rules of the game again."Look Rebecca is not coming back to the city anytime soon, and if I were you don't wait. Just move on."
In reality she didn't know what Emily was feeling or what she really felt for Rebecca, but what she wanted was for Rebecca to come back soon and if that meant forgetting Emily then so be it. Emily opened her mouth to speak and then took a deep breath instead. “I have to talk to her, we need to speak.” Emily pleaded, she shoved her hand into her pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. “You have to?” Tess question while eyeing the piece of paper Emily had produced. “I need to,” Emily extended the note out and Tess unfolded her arms and took it reading Rebecca’s confession. ‘I was right, dumbass fucked it up.’ Tess though and gave back the note. “So what?” she shrugged her shoulders a simple note was not going to change her mind about releasing information about Rebecca’s whereabouts. “Can you give me the number of where she is staying?” Tess shook her head “Can’t you call her and tell her to call me?” Same answer as before, exasperated Emily took a sharp inhale of breath. “Where the hell is she? I’ll drive out there and look for her myself if you don’t wanna talk to her for me.”At that Tess was taken back a bit, no one knew where the ranch was at and no one really had asked for it.
“I can’t do that,” Tess honestly responded. She was surprised when Rebecca told her the address of the ranch.“Look in case anything happens and stuff, here.” Rebecca handed her the folded piece of paper and with that Tess had become a close friend who knew one of the many secrets that Rebecca held. With that eventually Tess had come to know more and more details.
Tess stared at Emily’s blue eyes and asked the big question.
“Ms. Evans right?” Emily frowned a bit unsure why all the formality all of a sudden. “Yeah,” she answered tentatively. “Are you in love with Rebecca Demery, and I want the truth.” Emily swallowed hard and exhaled slowly.“I’m not sure what I’m feeling but I really would like to see her, talk to her. I mean she leaves me this and then disappears and I have no idea on what to do.”
Tess shook her head, she hated drama and hated other peoples drama.“She in the Dirt City, if you’re really serious I’m sure you’ll figured it out.”
With that the door closed and Emily stood there clutching her tiny piece of paper.“So be it,” she mumbled.
