Labyrinth

Chapter 22

The steps led me only one floor down, into another corridor. As I walked down it I saw a figure standing beside one of the doors. I held my head high and walked pass the female vampire. She followed me with her eyes, but didn't make a move. The hallway ended with another door. 'shimata...' I turned around looking at the other doors, not one of them had a sign on it. The vampire I had seen was gone. I walked over to one door and opened it. Another living room with doors leading to other rooms again. Next door, another hallway. This could be dangerous. But I memorized the number of doors and which ones I entered and walked into the next corridor. Another staircase. Going up this time.

I stopped and thought a little about going up or trying another door. "May I help you?" I turned around to see another vampire, male this time. His eyes wandered over my body and he smirked. I faced his eyes and kept my voice straight, "The cellar. How do I get there?" "What would a lady like you want in the cellar?", he said as he started to wander around me. I reached out and grabbed hold of the guy while hissing at him, "I'm not your prey or your toy. Stop eying me and stop circling me. My business in the cellar is mine, if you are not gonna help me get there, then you are wasting my time." I looked him in the eyes again, he didn't seem to want to help me so I turned my back at him and started to wonder which door I should try next.

I opened the first one to the right. Bingo. Stairs going down. I started walking them, but this time I didn’t end up in another corridor. The stairs led down into a huge room with candelabras hanging from the ceiling and draperies down the walls, huge paintings in between. I didn’t dare to step out from the stairs at first. There was only one more door in this room, at the far end. I considered walking back upstairs, but swallowed my fear, and entered the open area. I didn’t know why it frightened me so much, it must have been the atmosphere of the room. It was so empty. And.. I felt like being watched.

Finally, the end of the room. I opened the door. It was a fake, there was simply a wall behind it. I heard low laughter behind me, turned around and managed to get a glimpse of someone rushing inside another door. A door that appeared to be the wall itself. I moved quickly over and studied the wall. It was impossible to see that there was a door there. My hands moved over it, trying to find something, a switch or a knob, anything. Nothing.

My eyes wandered across the room. This was not funny. ”Okay.”, I said out loud, ”I get it. This is a game, right? But, I’m not gonna play it all alone, show me the next door!” Something started moving behind the stairs I had recently walked down. A door! I ran over. Stairs again, going down. These stairs were smaller than the previous ones though, and it was darker in them. They curved downwards in the good old way. Then I met another door at the end and walked into … a corridor. ”You know, you really would need a map for this castle, and if I ever was to get my hands on the architect I will certainly kill him for causing me this trouble.”, I mumbled. These corridors all looked the same.

I walked over to the first door and opened it. A room, tables, chairs, couch. Next door- living room, next door- locked. I sighted. It appeared it could take me years to get to where I wanted. ”Which is..?” I froze. ”Oh, you wanted to get to the cellar?” It was a female voice and it was coming from right next to me.

I turned my head. A cute blonde girl was standing next to me, she was lower than me, but her high heels was making up for it. She wore a black miniskirt with folds and a black corset with pink bonds in it. Her hair was loose and came half way down her back. She smiled an innocent smile at me and if it wasn’t for the fangs, I could have sworn she was human, her skin still had a tan to it and she seemed so much more alive then the other vampires I had seen.

She studied my clothes. ”Say… You’re not Vaan’s pet are you? That look is just like Iselin’s.” ”Well… I…” Then another vampire appeared on my left side, the male I had met earlier. ”Maybe she is not familiar with vampire customs? She certainly looks like his pet though.” ”It’s your lucky day, girl! Because I’m also on my way to the cellar…” ”You are? You will show me the way?” I was surprised by this, I had thought they were just playing with me, to see if I could get there on my own. ”So are you Vaan’s pet or not?” ”I guess so…” The girl smiled again, ”Isn’t Vaan just adorable? A shame he was sired so young, he could have been a real hunk if he had been allowed to grow a little.” She smiled again and started walking down the corridor. The male came up behind me and pushed me in front of him.

Suddenly the girl stopped and turned back at us, she was thinking something and out of nothing two more males appeared. ”Ah, there you are, where did you go? I just remembered, I don’t know the way to the cellar.. Can you please help me?”, she said in a sweet tone. The two males seemed to be stunned by her, although to me she didn’t seem all that wonderful. Quickly she locked my eyes with hers and I shrunk. Power laid in her aura, but I could only feel it when she let me. Like right now.
