Chapter Twenty one:

Hiro completely ignored Luka when he arrived at Ryuu’s mansion. He ordered everyone out of the room except for Haruka and Ryuu. Then he slammed the door shut in Luka’s face and locked it.

“Sorry Hiro, I completely forgot to mention Luka when I called you,” Haruka apologized to his friend.

“Don't worry about it.  He is dead to me now.  His being here makes no difference to me,” Hiro told his friend as he went over to his son.

“Dad, who is this person?” Ryuu asked Haruka as he tried to remember where he had seen the man’s face before.

"Ryuu, meet Hiro, Naru’s dad. He is also my friend. When you were younger, he would bring Naru around a lot, remember?”

“Naru told me that his dad passed away already ,and I recall you claiming that he was still alive. Why is it that Naru thinks you are dead Hiro?”

“Let me explain Ryuu,  I planted that false memory in him,” Hiro explained as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a long chain with a crystal pendant . He slipped it over Naru’s head and around his neck. As soon as it touched Naru’s skin, the pendant slowly started to turn red like fire.

Ryuu immediately felt Naru’s body gradually returning to normal. He looked up at Naru’s dad with a questioning look on his face.

“It’s a special pendant designed to be used in this kind of situation,” Hiro explained, then he took a good look at his son’s wings and tail. “This is strange,” he murmured.

“What is?” Haruka and Ryuu asked.

"His wings are silver but his tail is a darker color, and not only that, his wings are shaped differently as well. Look, the tail is slowly going away.”  Just as Hiro said that,  the tail disappeared.

“Is that a bad thing?”

“Naru isn't in any danger is he?” Ryuu asked as he tightened his hold on Naru. Unknown to the three of them, Naru was starting to come around.

“Honestly I don't know, but I know someone who does. Just let me make a quick call to him.”

“Who is that?” Haruka asked Hiro.

“Naru’s great grandfather,” Hiro replied as he punched the numbers on his phone. He pressed the phone to his ear and waited for someone to pick it up.

“Hello Hiro,” a cheerful voice said from the other end.

“Hey Grandfather. I have a quick question for you.”

“It must be very important for you to go right into it without even saying hi to me first, Hiro.”

“Sorry Grandfather, I promise to pay a visit to make it up to you.”

“Alright then,” said his grandfather. "So tell me, what is so important that you had to call this old man?"

“It’s Naru. His wings and tail are two different colors and the tail just went away. As for his wings, they are still there Grandfather. I have never seen anything like it before.”

“Do the wings and tail happen to be silver and black?” his grandfather asked.

“How did you know Grandfather?”

Hiro’s grandfather laughed over the phone. “Don't worry about it. Naru will be fine, but those wings won't disappear, no matter how much power you use on them."

“Then how Grandfather?  I don't want Naru to wake up and freak out when he sees wings sprouting from his back.”

“Bring him to me and I will take care of it for you,” his grandfather told him.

“But Grandfather, if I do that Naru will---”

“Ryuu...” Naru’s voice stopped Hiro’s conversation with his grandfather. He turned around to see Naru’s eyes slowly opening.

“Grandfather, I will have to call you back,” Hiro said softly and hung up.

The first face Naru saw when he opened his eyes was Ryuu’s. He smiled and reached up to brush his boss’s bangs to the side. “White really suits you Boss. It brings out your handsome features,” he complimented Ryuu.

“Fine, if you like me in it that much, I'll keep the damn color to make you happy,” Ryuu said with a smile. “I am just glad that you are out of it. You scared me when you suddenly went out cold.”

Naru laughed, and that was when he felt something very heavy on his back. He turned his head around to look to see what was on his back and what he saw made his eyes grow ten times bigger. In addition to that, he saw his dad out of the corner of his eye. He gripped Ryuu’s arm tightly.

“Ryuu, tell me that I am dreaming all of this. That I am seeing things. Why is my dad standing near your dad, and what are these wings doing behind my back?” he asked his boss as calmly as he could, not wanting to freak out just yet. There must be a reasonable explanation for all of this, he thought.

“I'll answer him for you Ryuu,” Hiro volunteered as he went up to his son.

When his dad got closer to him, Naru knew that he wasn't dreaming. The man in front of him was his dad, and he was alive and smiling at him.

“Dad! It’s really you Daddy!” Naru cried out and hugged his dad. He forgot about the wings on his back for a moment as he hugged his dad. “I’m so happy that you are not dead. Miku is going to be overjoyed when she sees you Dad,” Naru exclaimed.

"Naru, I am glad that you are happy to see me. Forgive Daddy for not letting you know sooner,” Hiro said.

Naru shook his head. "Daddy the fact that you are alive and well is enough for me. I am sure that you had your own reasons for leaving me and Miku in the dark.”

Hiro reached out and touched the wings on his son’s back and that brought Naru’s attention back to the wings.

“Daddy, why do I have wings?” he asked as he gripped his boss’s hand tightly, not sure if he wanted to know or not.

“Naru I am not going to lie to you, so I'll come right out and say it. Naru, you are of mixed blood. You carry the blood of humans and demons.”

“Hiro, you forgot to mention Luka’s species,” Haruka whispered.

Hiro glared at his friend and turned his eyes back to his son, who was looking at him like he was crazy. “And you also have the blood of a breeder in you.”

Naru’s mouth hung open in disbelief. “This can't be happening! Why me? All of this isn't real, I am just dreaming all of this!” Naru denied everything he had just heard from his dad. He flung his arms around Ryuu and asked him to hold him tight. “Ryuu, please tell me this is all a dream and that I am none of those things my dad said,” he murmured into Ryuu’s shirt.

“A very reasonable reaction, just like you and I expected, right Hiro?” Haruka nudged his friend as he said it.

“Naru I’m sorry, but this is all real. What your dad told you is true,” Ryuu whispered to Naru gently as he stroked Naru’s hair to calm him down.

Naru glanced up at his boss then at his dad. “Why did it show up now?” he asked the question that Ryuu had also been wondering as well. “I mean, if I am all those things Dad, why did these wings decide to show up now?” He demanded an answer from his dad.

“Naru...umm..” Shit, how the hell was he supposed to tell his son that the wings had appeared because he was going to be a daddy. Hiro looked at his friend for help.

“I think before you start telling him the reason for his wings, you need to tell him about Luka and you first, then maybe he will be able to accept the you know what,”  Haruka told his friend in a low whisper and then went over to Naru.

“Don't worry too much about those wings Naru. Your dad got them a long time ago too,” Haruka told Naru. “Look at him now. No wings at all, right?” he added.

Naru nodded his head, but he still wanted an answer for why he had suddenly sprouted wings from his back. “Dad tell me. I want to know, I need to know why I am suddenly like this.”

Hiro nodded his head. “Before I tell you the reason, I need to talk to someone first Naru,” he said.  Once I talk to that person, I will be able to tell you the reason.” Hiro turned from his son and swung the door open. His eyes immediately went to Luka. “You and I need to talk," was all Hiro said. He went ahead without waiting to see if Luka was following him.

"Is everything alright?” Ray asked his husband.

“Everything is fine. It’s just that Naru freaked out a bit when he saw the wings on his back, and right now he is still trying to come to terms with what he just learned about himself,” Haruka answered his husband.

"Since everything is alright now, I shall be heading off to get ready for work," Kousuki told the two of them. He stuck his head inside Naru’s room to see how the boy was doing. “Naru nice wings you’ve got there. You should ask Ryuu to show you his real form.”

“Shut up Uncle Kousuki!” Ryuu snapped at his uncle sharply.

Kousuki chuckled deeply and left.

“Ryuu, about what your uncle just--?”

“It’s nothing Naru. Forget about what he said.”

"As you wish. You are the boss,” Naru sighed. Like bloody hell was he going to forget about it. He was going to find out what the hell it was that his boss didn't want him to know.

-----------------

Kousuki still refused to think of Kou as his mate. He still had not gotten over his grief for Risa’s mother, and he wasn't ready to be involved with Kou. Young, innocent Kou. He drew in a deep breath and swung the door open to find Kou pacing the room.

“What the hell is going on? I heard Naru screaming just a half an hour ago. Don't you dare tell me that it’s none of my business! Naru is my friend and that makes it my business!” Kou ranted loudly loud enough to cause an echo in the silence of the room.

He ignored the boy’s question. “Why aren't you ready for work Kou? As your boss, I can't have you miss work!” Kousuki walked over to the closet and took out one of the black suits hanging inside. He walked back to Kou.

“Damn! Why do you always have to do that?” Kou asked as he snatched the suit from Kousuki.

“Do what boy?”

“You know what I mean Boss,” Kou muttered angrily as he unbuttoned his shirt so that he could put on the damn suit.

“Actually I don't boy.” Kousuki crossed his arms and wore a grim look on his face as he waited for the boy to tell him.

Kou sighed and looked at his boss. “Boss, do you hate me?” He went right to the point and flat out said it. “When I first started to work for you, you were acting very kind to me, but now you seem so cold, and you always seem to be in a bad mood when I am around. If you hate me, just say so Boss. I'll quit my job and you won't have to see my face again,” Kou’s voice shook as he poured his feelings of hurt and confusion out to his boss.

That got Kousuki. It surprised him that the boy thought that he hated him, when it was the complete opposite. Then it hit him hard. The boy was right. Lately he has been treating the boy coldly. He did not take the boy out for dinner or lunch anymore. He had stopped talking to the boy unless it was related to work, and just last night when the boy came to see him with the bowl of sweet ice cream, saying that he wanted to turn his frown into a smile, and what did he do but harshly order the boy out of his room and slam the door in his face. No wonder the boy thought  that he hated him. He uncrossed his arms and went over to the boy.

“Boss?” Kou uttered out and stared wide eyed at his boss.

Kousuki reached up and gently brushed the boy’s cheek with his fingers. Slowly he bent forward and pressed his lips against the boy’s and kissed him tenderly. He pulled back to see the look of shock on the boy’s face and a blush of pink on each side of the boy’s cheeks. “Do you think I hate you now Kou?” he whispered softly as his finger traced the boy’s lips. He smiled warmly when the boy shook his head.

“Hey you two, sorry to interrupt your sweet moment but you are wanted on the phone Kousuki,” Ray interrupted from the open door with a grin.

“Kou, never again let the thought go to your head that I hate you. It is the complete opposite,” Kousuki make sure to tell the boy right before he left to answer the call.

“Umm.. Boss, I should be ready for work in five minutes,” Kou yelled across the room before his boss walked out the door.

Kousuki smiled and left.

Kou couldn’t help but still feel a little shocked from the kiss he had received just now from his boss. He never in his life would have expected himself to be kissed by a man, and strangely enough, he didn't hate it. Could it be that he liked his boss more than he thought? Was it possible that he... like Naru... had fallen for his boss? Wait, it was impossible. How could he think that way about his boss?  He liked girls, but he also liked his boss. “Ahh... my head hurts,” Kou yelled in frustration, tugging on his hair. He breathed out and pushed his thoughts to the side. “No time for that. I have to get to work.” It was only later when he had arrived at work, that Kou realized that his boss had never once answered his questions about Naru.

-----------

"I never wanted to see you or talk to you again after that night Luka," Hiro began as soon as they found a quiet room.

"You seem to have been doing a pretty damn good job of it for twenty three years," Luka retorted as he poured himself a whiskey from the table.

"Twenty three years is not long enough. I wanted to go my whole life without ever seeing your damn face again Luka,” Hiro snapped. "That is how much you hurt me.”

"That did not give you the right to keep Naru from me Hiro!” snapped Luka as he slammed the bottle of whiskey back on the table.

“You lost the right to call yourself his father when you chose your people over us Luka. Just be grateful that you are even getting a chance to see him now.”  Hiro snapped right back.

Hiro crossed his arms and glared at Luka. "So tell me Luka, how is your family?" Hiro of course was referring to the person Luka had married.

“We are doing great if you want to know. In fact he is way better than you Hiro. He never demands the impossible from me.” Luka was lying.  In fact, his life had been nothing but hell without Hiro by his side.

Hiro felt a sharp pain in his chest but he ignored it. “Good, then you don't need Naru to accept you Luka. I wouldn't want Naru to get to know you and your people.” He spun around to face the other way, not wanting to see Luka’s face anymore.

"Damn it Hiro! I just fucking lied to you!” Luka this time slammed his whiskey glass down on the table and stalked over to Hiro. He spun Hiro around to look him in the face. He was going to demand that Hiro listen to him till the end, but once his eyes locked with Hiro’s whatever he wanted to say flew right out the window. Before he knew it, he bent down and captured Hiro’s mouth with his, kissing him hard and deep, wanting to make up for all the time they had been apart. His heart jumped in joy when he felt Hiro melt into his arms. That was proof to him that Hiro still loved him, and it was all he needed to claim Hiro once more as his.

---------------

"Oh really, that is so exciting Uncle Kousuki!  I can't wait to see my little nephew," Rei told his uncle over the phone as he waited in the rented car for Naoya to return. I"'ll let you go now Uncle Kousuki, you have to get to work. Bye," he said and then hung up.

Rei smiled when he saw Naoya. "So did you find out where your friend is?" he asked as soon as Naoya got into the car.

“No, not yet, but I am sure that we will find him soon,” Naoya replied as he backed out of the parking lot. "I’m hungry. What do you want to eat Rei?”

“I would love a good steak,” Rei answered.

“Okay, steak it is.” Naoya drove out of the parking lot.

They drove for half an hour before they found the restaurant Rei wanted to go to for his steak. As it happened, it was the same restaurant that his parents, Ryuu and Naru had visited when they were in England.

They ordered two steaks and red wine to go with the meal. Naoya ordered his steak well done and Rei had his medium rare, which looked more rare than medium rare to Naoya’s eyes, but he didn't comment on it since Rei seemed to enjoy it so much.

"I love this restaurant. They always know how I love my steak," Rei commented as he cut through the bloody meat on his dish.

Naoya just smiled and sipped his red wine before cutting into his own steak. "After this where do you want to go?" he asked before he bit into his meat.

“I hope you don't mind Naoya, my cousin wanted me to pay him a visit and he didn't give me much of a chance to refuse him.”

“No, I don't mind. We can drop by for a bit before continuing to look for Makoto.”

Rei smiled brightly at Naoya. He couldn’t help falling for Naoya even more.
