“I still think this is a bad idea,” Mel stopped packing her clothes as she took off her glasses.
“Will you just quit worrying, it's not a bad idea.” I assured her, as I continued packing my clothes for the following week.
“Yes it is, you have an unstable relationship with your mother and you want to go eat diner with them, and take me along. I think it is a very crazy idea.”
“Are you scare of meeting my family.”
“Fuck yes,” Mel exasperated as she threw her arms up in the air. “I'm scared shitless, like like how are you gonna introduce me.” Mel asked as she covered her face with her hands. I grabbed her hands as I placed them around my waist.
“My roommate for now, ok so don't worry.” Mel shook her head as I tried to kiss her.
“Come on,” I teased as I undid her pants and slid my hand down. She was wearing boy brief. She closed her eyes as she swallowed hard. “Ellie, we need to wake up early to catch the train.”
“So you do want to go, great.” I took my hand out and did her pants back up.
“Hey hey,” Mel said as I walked towards the bathroom.
“Jerk!” she shouted.

It was close to two in the morning when I woke up. The red numbers taunted me, and as I turned around to see Mel awake.
“Did you just wake me up?” I whispered.
“yeah,” she replied as I smacked her in the forehead. We were sleeping in Lucas guest room. I was glad he had an actual bed. “I'm nervous about today,” whispered Mel.
“my gosh you,” I yawned as I turned away from her and closed my eyes. “Ellie,” she poked me in the ribs.
“Melissa, if you don't let me go back to sleep I swear to you-,” Mel had pulled me onto my back and kissed me shutting me up.
I closed my eyes as I let her get on top of me. She pressed her hips into me as I moaned through the kiss.
She pulled back as I placed my hands on the back of her neck and pulled her down to me. We kissed, but It wasn't desperate. It was more calm, almost reassuring. I broke the kiss as I muttered, “Everything will be fine, if not then I'm sorry.” I felt my eyes welled up, “I'm sorry, I don't want to place you in a bad position. But I want to spend time with you and I want to see my dad and Lucas.” I sniffled as Mel nuzzled my neck. “I'll be good,” she mumbled as she moved of me and spooned me.
“I'll be good.” she said again and we fell asleep.

The house was empty except for Mel, whom was in her room with head phones on, as she organized a series of sounds. She replay them over and over tweaking what she could and pasting it, onto the clip of footage she had.
Mel checked the time, it was close to noon. Lucas had picked up Ellie earlier and said he was going to take her out for lunch.
Mel jumped into her work trying not to think of what she had done the day before. 'That was stupid,' She scolded herself.
Mel took off her headphones and threw her glasses down. She was tired and jittery. She wanted to know so many things but she had decide she was going to give Ellie the benefit of the doubt. When it was time to know all the things that were hidden. She would be ready, 'for now,' Mel mumbled. 'I'm an ignorant fool,' she said as she picked up her glasses. She caught a glimpse of the frame on her desk and smiled. “an ignorant fool in love,”
Ellie was sitting in Lucas's truck as she opened her new journal.
“Look, I was reading some of my email and it seems I was doing something, that Mel may have agreed to or not.”
Lucas nodded as he pulled up the drive-thru window they were in. Lucas pulled out his wallet and paid the cashier and got his food.
“Let's go to the park,” he said as Ellie nodded.
“Ok so something was up and this Alexis chick was what your confidant, your ally, your lo-” Lucas stopped himself as Ellie finished for him, “Lover, who knows. Although when ever I think of her and me in that situation I get a sick taste in my mouth.” She made a face of disgust.
“well that's good, that means you weren't sleeping with her.” Lucas said as he parked. He pushed his seat back as he fished his burger out of his bag.
Ellie grabbed a pen and crossed Lucas name from her list.
“What do you know about me? Did I ever mention I was going to do something and did not care of the consequences?”
Lucas chewed his fries as he scratched his chin. “No, I don't recall anything like that.”
Ellie pulled out her fries as she started at her older brother. “what was the last secret I told you?”
Lucas smiled as he pointed a fry at Ellie. “Australia, that was not an office trip, you went there to do some soul searching shit. I think you were questioning your relationship with Mel.”
“Do you know why?” she asked eagerly as she shook his head. “you were gone for a week and came back and everything seemed normal. Ellie I have no clue, I think you were keeping this more to yourself.”
Ellie frustrated threw her journal on the dash board. “Lucas this is killing me I have all this paperwork at home, but it doesn't give me answer, everything is all half assed filled out. Some are dateless so I don't know if I filled them out this year or back in college.”
Lucas patted her leg, “Ellie don't push it. It's close to two now, where else do you want to go.”
Ellie glanced down at her uneaten burger. She unwrapped it as she talked with her mouth full.
“I want to go to the police station. I want my accident report.” Lucas nodded as he drove, Ellie ate in silence as she sipped her soda.
“You know I'm getting tired of reading my diaries, I feel as if I wrote a lot of useless things. I wish I had the ability to skim through them quick and get the important points.”
“How about you give your diaries a break, and focus on something else. When you get tired of that then go back to your diaries.” Lucas suggested as they reached the police station.
Lucas helped her off and onto her chair as they made their way in. It took fifteen minutes to get the report. Ellie quickly opened it and read.
“Ellie,” Lucas got his sisters attention as he helped her into his truck. He pulled onto the main road as Ellie was absorbed reading the file.
“Well what now?” Lucas asked as he drove to a gas station to put gas. “Hey buy a map will ya,” Lucas was about to question it, when he decide to just do it, Ellie was being proactive in discovering what the hell she was up to.
Lucas came back with the map and handed it to Ellie as he went to pump gas while Ellie extended the thing and found highway 178, she glanced back to the report and realized she was traveling west. She marked it with her pen, she then found her address and marked it.
Lucas got back in the truck when he leaned over to see Ellie's markings. “How about that, Mel had told me you were traveling east.” Lucas blurted out as Ellie looked at him.
“East?” Ellie mumbled as she saw the path, she wasn't driving home. “Get 178,” Ellie said as Lucas once again did not question the orders and drove.
Ellie looked out the window seeing the signs, she closed her eyes and felt a shiver as she could see. She opened them again. “Ellie are you okay?” Lucas asked worried, Ellie had gone pale.
“I was on in the third lane,” Ellie whispered as Lucas realized he was in it too, they were driving West, “I wanted Exit 23 Alley lane,” Ellie mumbled as she looked back, and then forward. There was a car not letting me get into the second lane, I sped up and swerved in, when I realized the exit was there so I yanked the steering wheel to make it to the first lane when, I lost control and swerved.”
Ellie closed her eyes as she saw the bright light heading towards her, but the car was spinning and the oncoming car hit the passenger side, that pushed her and she was hit from behind until she was stuck in the median.
Ellie opened her eyes to see them exit the freeway safely, they were on Alley Lane. Lucas was silent as he felt a tremor run up his back. So close to death, “Take a right,” Ellie directed him, she knew this route.
She gave the directions she knew them by heart, they reached a house with a big maple tree in the front. It was brick color with a fountain in the yard.
“Ellie who lives here?” Lucas asked intrigued.
“Thomas del Potro and his wife Alexis,” Ellie uttered.

“So Melissa, what are your plans after college?” Mel swallowed hard as she finished the bite she had in her mouth and smile at my mom, “I'm not sure exactly, I'm just getting my bearing straight about what I can do with my major.”
My mom just nodded as she looked at me, I could tell she was holding back. My mom knew something, but I had no clue what.
We ate in peace, as I sat next to Mel and my dad was on the other side of me. Next to Mel was Lucas and next to him was mom.
I could feel Mel's leg shake uncontrollably, as her thigh rub against mine. We ate dinner quietly, just as we were going to start dessert, the doorbell rang. I looked at dad he shrugged his shoulders, “Oh,” Mom exclaimed as she got up quickly.
“who mom invite?” Lucas asked as my dad shook his head, “she didn't tell me,” he said as he took a bite of his pumpkin pie.
Everything went deadly quiet as Lucas dropped his fork and my dad choked a little. I glared at my mom and her companion. “Justin,” I mumbled as Mel coughed.
“What the fuck you doing here,” Justin told Mel as Mel glared at him.
“Wait a minute,” Mom said as she looked at Mel and back to Justin, “You,” was all my mom said as I stood up. “what the hell ma, why is he here?”
“I though it be nice for the two of you to catch up.” She replied so sickly innocently.
“Mom really?” Lucas spoke up as he stood up, “Dad I'm gonna go this is ridiculous, we try to have a civilized dinner and mom you fuck it up.”
“Don't talk to your mom like that you queer,” Justin interfered, Lucas raised his hand as Mel grabbed him.
“Don't, just breath,” Mel whispered in his ear as he calmed down. “Yeah listened to the dyke.” Justin taunted.
Mel closed her eyes as she was about to speak up when I interrupted. “Which one?”
I smiled as my mom looked like she was in the pathway of a train.
“Get out!” she manage to shout as Mel scoffed, “with pleasure,”
“I don't want you ever to step foot in my house,” she glared at Mel as Mel just shrugged her shoulders. “Sir pleasure to meet ya,” Mel shook my dad's hand as she walked away.
Lucas leaned down to kiss my dad on the forehead, “Sorry dad,” Lucas muttered as he walked out.
“Ma,” I looked at her as she had tears in her eyes. “When will you-,” I didn't bother to finish my thought as I hugged my dad. “Love ya daddy,” with that I walked out too.

“Do you want to knock?” Lucas asked as Ellie opened her eyes, she felt a migraine creeping in.
“No, not today, just take me home will ya.” Lucas started the car as he pulled away, from the main source of answers.
Ellie closed her eyes as she smiled, “remember that thanks giving when involuntarily I came out to mom.”
Lucas nodded as he growl a little, “You know how badly I wanted to punch that guy.”
“You know, I was expecting you to.” Ellie admitted as Lucas chuckled.
“I should of,” Lucas laughed, “It would have been priceless, if I broke his nose in the manner that Mel did.”
Ellie laughed too, “Oh gosh that would have been priceless.” They both laughed together as the tension that both felt melted away as they shared a common memory.
“I Think I'm going to read my journals again. I don't think I'm reading to talk to Alexis or to Thomas,” Ellie admitted as they exited the highway and were a mile away from her house.
Lucas whistled, “Well, once you figured this whole mess out how bout you let me in on 411.”
“Deal,” Ellie smiled glad to see Mel's car in the drive way.
