Organizing Thoughts

A/N: I hope you enjoyed the last chapter. I really liked it. Yes, I did deliberately draw out and make you think they were going around wasting people. Also, going to the ninety-nine and asking about schrod. I did that. True story. Right before that we went and rearranged some displays in Borders because I work in a competing bookstore and it seemed... fair.

This chapter is probably boring but it will excite you to know I already have a chapter written to post tomorrow (later today?) and I did reach the 50,000 word goal for NaNoWriMo. I'm not yet at the end of the plot line so I'll be continuing updates until I reach that. After which will come a re-write of most of it and fleshing out of some points of the story to turn it into a real novel.

Ty needed to figure out what he knew and put it in some kind of organized fashion. He decided he needed to make a list so he opened a notebook, doodled a knife in the corner of the page to make sure the pen was working properly and started to make two lists. One was titled simple “them” and the second “the war”. He frowned and changed his mind and decided to add a list called: “The girl”. He started with that one because he assumed it would be the shortest.

Female, approximately two to three years of age give or take. Brunette/black hair, pale skin. Other identifiable markers negligible due to age. No known origin. No known parents. No known powers.
Previously under control of unknown group in nothern-most Ukraine. Unknown group consisting of military-trained guards. Access to large amount of funds.
Currently assumed under control of Them. Current whereabouts unknown. Conditions unknown but assumed to be good based on knowledge of Them.
Related to the cause of future global conflict occurring in probable future tract. Identified by reliable source. Exact involvement in cause is unknown. Exact date of involvement is unknown but assumed to be future. Involvement is probably unknown by Them. Involvement is probably unknown by other groups.
Reason for abduction is unknown. Reason for original imprisonment is unknown. Speculated reason for both is a power of some kind. Other possible reasons speculated as being the daughter of some kind of important figure. No evidence of latter speculation discovered upon searching.

He stared at the relative short list. That was really all he knew about her. Most of what he’d written was speculation and unknown variables. If he didn’t have Aiden he would have known hardly anything at all. He decided he’d start on the list about the war next.

All knowledge of future warfare gleaned through visions of a probable future and related from a second party. Second party is considered a reliable source of information. Visions are considered a reliable source of information about the future.
Future global warfare referred to as a global conflict but analogous to a third World War.
War to occur in possibly no less than three and probably no more than ten years. Exact start date and durations unknown.
War is likely to encompass all major global players. Current alliances possibly to be extended into the war but shifting of alliances is equally a possibility.
Casualties of the war unknown but assumed to be extremely high due to extent of war.
Obvious cause of war series of bombings on major cities and hits on individuals of interest. Bombings not taken credit for by any groups or countries. Hits not take credit for by any groups or countries. Uncertainty and the blame game presumed to boil over into outright warfare regardless of the actual culprit behind the bombings and hits.
Non-obvious but direct root cause of the war actions taken by Them. The actions taken concern the girl. The actions themselves taken are unknown.
Possible actions are: The abduction of the girl from the other group. Selling, giving, trading or otherwise relinquishing control of the girl to another hostile group. Losing control of the girl to a hostile group in a way not deemed beneficial by Them. Using any powers the girl may or may not have in order to gain something for themselves and accidentally sparking the war. Using the girl’s theoretical powers deliberately in order to spark the war. Most probable action deemed to be deliberate or accidental loss of control over the girl. This opinion may be reassessed when more is known about the girl herself.
Resolutions that don’t end in war are considered to be hard to find but desirable to attain. Options so far considered are discovering the plans They have for the girl and thwarting them.

Sadly he barely knew more about the war than he knew about the girl. Fortunately he knew he’d have a lot more to fill in on the third list though he wasn’t so sure what he knew would be as relevant as he’d like.

The group referred to as Them comes from unknown origins but probably originated here. Current location is here. Founding is unknown but must be at least two decades prior to now. Group was well-established and well-connected fifteen years previous to current date. Due to other factors it is assumed that the group existed a considerable amount of time previous to twenty years ago and has connections of some kind to the government. It is unknown whether the government us behind or knows of any or all actions of the group and whether or not they endorse them is also unknown.
Contact with this group was made fifteen years previous to present time. Contact was initiated by Them due to a doctor’s visit and symptoms described by the doctor. Further tests were prompted by Them and moves were made to take possession of assets.
They now control a large number of people with various psychic powers typically referred to by them as gifts. All persons are employed or otherwise kept by them. Persons with highest known powers are individuals known as Ty and Aiden who can read minds/command thoughts and see the future respectively. Most other individuals with powers display scaled-down versions of Ty’s at best or failed to express potential powers at all but remain within the organization due to knowledge of group that they possess.
Most individuals with gifts or unexpressed gifts were acquired as children through various means. Most were forced into group homes when their parents were declared unfit. The circumstances that caused parents to be unfit were, in retrospect, manipulated by Them in order to gain control of talented individuals.
Training techniques were used both to force expression of the powers of the individuals as well as to train them to be spies and other occupations useful to the organization. Training techniques included alienation, psycho-therapy meant to induce further injury to the mind instead of healing, torture, rape, classes designed to teach them problem-solving, battle skills, the ability to implement torture of their own, lock-picking, car mechanics, and a plethora of other skills.
Other talented individuals were acquired through employment but most were found to be considerably less useful with the exception of Aiden whose shitty life served to give him the powers and skills to do as they wanted.
They had a large supply of money and were likely to be a branch of a corporation that took action merely to increase the money they had. Unknown what they hope to gain from the girl.
There are few known higher-ups in the organization. Cheryl Whisler is in charge of keeping the special operatives healthy but nothing more and knows nothing more. Mr. Dergin is the direct superior to the two known most powerful gifted individuals in the organization. He has a natural defense against the most common power possessed by individuals in the organization. He has direct contact with anonymous higher-up persons in the organization but his natural defense protects the anonymity of the more knowledgeable higher-ups.
Some information is known about the higher-ups.

He paused in the list then and decided, instead of listing the phone numbers and contacts he had gleaned from Dergin, he would just make a reference to the list of contacts in this list. He went on to detail assignments he had engaged in and any repercussions he knew about that were caused by what he’d done. When that was finished he had Aiden read over what he’d written to decide whether he’d left anything out or written anything that was false.

“The weird third-person shit is weird.” Aiden informed him.

“Theoretically that way there’s plausible deniability.” Ty suggested. He hoped it never came to that but still... you could never be too cautious or over-prepared. On the other hand you could be dead and that wasn’t a state of being he was desirous of.

“Shit. Are you serious?” Aiden asked as he tapped one of the lists. Ty squinted at it and in a few moments he’d deciphered it from up-side-down and eventually nodded. “Shit. Torture and rape and alienation and stupid fucking head-screwing shit and you didn’t say anything?” Ty blinked at him slowly.

“I didn’t particularly think that was the kind of polite conversation I was supposed to be sharing...” He trailed off, confused.

“God. I knew you were messed up. But you’re really messed up good. That’s what they did to you to make you into their good little soldier? Jesus fucking christ. You could have told me you were tortured... raped. I didn’t know. I could have said something- done something- fucked you up even more than you already are. You know that? I wouldn’t have wanted that.” Ty just kind of stared at him. He was fine. What was the big deal?

“I’m fine. I don’t really... think about back then. It’s subjective memory. I’m not bothered by it.”

“What if you were?” But he wasn’t. Maybe... maybe Aiden just felt guilty in some way? Guilty that he’d had such a shitty past or guilty about the damage that he might have caused if Ty was a different person.

“But I’m not.” Ty said calmly. “I’m fine. It’s fine. I don’t think about it. It doesn’t bother me. I’ll be fine. You wont trigger any memories or anything.”

“That’s what your nightmares are about?” He asked gently, putting his arms around the blond and pulling him close, resting his chin on top of his head and drawing little patterns on his back.

“Some of them.” Not that he wanted to admit it. He was loathe to say that he had nightmares about such things anymore. He didn’t want his past to interfere in his life. But there was a reason he avoided sleeping until he was totally exhausted and could no longer ignore the need to sleep. “I don’t have as many nightmares anymore. Not since he’d begun sharing a bed with Aiden. He slept a bit better now.

“Jesus.” Aiden cursed again but to lighten the mood he started to tickle the older of the two and had him laughing hard enough to make his stomach hurt in no time.

“Yeah. I guess all this shit is more or less correct.” He said after they’d both calmed down some. He scribbled a few notes and corrections in the margins but most of the comments he made seemed to be referring to the poncy language in which the lists were written. Ty just rolled his eyes at that. “Are you really committed to doing this?” Aiden asked. “It could be dangerous.”

Ty sighed and shook his head. “I think... I’m dangerous.” He murmured. “They must be afraid of me. What else did they have to be afraid of to put someone like Dergin in charge of us except to keep someone with my kind of powers from getting to them?” He reasoned.

“And now you have a secret weapon as well.” Aiden said cheekily and smirked at him.

“Oh yeah?” Ty asked with a frown.

“Yeah. You have me.” He said firmly. Obviously that was his way of declaring that he was coming with him. Ty didn’t argue. There was really no point. There was no plausible reason for Aiden to not come with him so he wasn’t going to deny him the right.

“You’re right.” He agreed. They might have some idea of how useful Aiden’s powers were but without Ty he wouldn’t be as effective. Together Ty figured they were pretty unstoppable. Sure, that might be a bit egotistical but he also thought it was pretty much the truth. After what they had both been through all their lives... Well, they could see a problem like preventing global warfare and be a little freaked out but still say... sure, we can handle that. Why not?
