Chapter Twenty-One: Unrequited
Dayne and Jaiden buried her heads in their hands ready for what’s coming. “Marc?” Chase asked his voice hoarse showing his state of anger, “Marc, she’s with MARC!”
Dayne sighed. “Chase calm down.” Chase who was pacing the room angrily glared at Dayne dangerously.
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” he barked angrily. “I don’t fucking believe this, she tells me she loves me and she takes off with that son of a bitch!”
Jaiden and Dayne exchanged irritated looks. “Chase why are you angry?” Jaiden asked with a deep frown. Chase stopped and glared at him. “If I remember correctly YOU were the one that turned HER down. What right do you honestly have to be angry with her?” He added after a beat.
“I have every fucking right; she shouldn’t have taken off like that. I would have given her the space she needed. This is all his doing; Leila would never take off like this. He’s taking advantage of her and all you guys are too fucking blind to see it.” Dayne shook his head.
“Chase, Marc had nothing do with this. It was Leila’s idea to go away. She was in a state and needed to get away from here...from you. You hurt her and Marc was there to help her through. She asked him to go with her because she didn’t wanna be alone. He’s only looking out for her like any good friend would.” Dayne reasoned and Chase scoffed.
“Don’t be so fucking stupid, there’s only one thing that bastard is after and I assure you it’s not her friendship.” He spat annoyed. “She was in a state...she seems pretty fucking happy to me.”
“Chase what the hell do you want from her?” Jaiden asked rising to his feet in anger. “You broke her heart; you reject her and choose your skank of a girlfriend over her. LEILA, who has laid her life on the line for you so many times, the same girl that, stood by you when you were on your death bed when you overdosed cocaine. You have absolutely NO RIGHT to be mad at her for trying to find some kind of happiness after you destroyed her. What is it that’s bothering you exactly, you don’t want her but can’t stand the thought of another guy making her happy is that it?” Jaiden snapped hotly.
Chase was livid. “THAT GUY SHOULD BE ME, SHE BELONGS WITH ME DAMN IT!” he roared his voice bouncing off the walls in the empty house.
“YOU HAD THAT CHANCE BUT YOU FUCKLING BLEW IT, YOU DICKHEAD!” Jaiden said in the same manner.
Dayne jumped to his feet when Chase lunged at Jaiden. “ENOUGH!” Dayne said shoving Chase away from his brother. “Both of you calm the fuck down before I sock you both one, and shut you up myself.” He warned both boys.
Chase and Jaiden glared at each other both seething. “Chase, you need to figure out what the fuck it is you want, man. If its Nicole you wanna be with then go back to her and leave Leila alone to get over you in peace, where ever and who ever with. However if it’s Leila you want then you break up with Nicole and stop screwing around with her head, because this past year she’s been through enough shit, and I’ll be damned if I let you hurt her again.” Dayne said stonily.
“Where is she?” Chase asked his demeanour stiff.
Dayne shook his head. “No, I’m not telling you. Go home, take a few days and think about what you want. Come back here when you
only for certain know its Leila you want, break up with Nicole and then I’ll tell you where she is.” Dayne said sternly his cold eyes showing his gravity.
“I love her, I always have.” Chase said his tone of voice softer than before.
“Than do the right thing,” Chase knew his friend was right. He needed to clear his head before he stormed off after Leila.
Without another word he turned and walked out of the house. He had a lot to think about.
After the boys heard the door slam shut in the distance they shared a look. “Dude...”
“...I know.” Dayne said before shaking his head sadly and walking off.

Bahamas...
Back on the beautiful island Leila and Marc had strolled in at six in the morning completely smashed. So hammered they both fell on Leila’s king-size bed arms and legs tangled and fell asleep.
After sleeping it off for six hours Leila stirred with a banging in her head. She popped one eye open and groaned when her hang over hit her full on. She frowned when she buried her face into something warm and solid. When she sniffed she recognised the aftershave immediately and opened her eyes looking into Marc’s still peacefully asleep face.
She groaned again and let her head drop onto his chest which caused Marc to stir and groan himself. “Fuck...” she heard him curse before he rolled over not noticing Leila was still on top him. Leila yelped when she slipped off Marc and landed on the floor with a thud.
Marc shot up when he heard her cry of pain, his hands flying to his head when his hangover also kicked in. “Ow!” he said his violet eyes wide before they found Leila on the floor. “What the hell are you doing on the floor?” he asked groggily and winced when his own voice seemed too loud.
Leila scowled up at him. “You rolled me off the bed, you numb nut.” She whimpered slightly rubbing her sore ass. “I think you broke my ass.” She mumbled causing Marc to laugh and groan straight after.
“Oh god, please don’t make me laugh I think my brain’s ready to fall out of my mouth.” He mumbled falling back on the bed.
“Ew,” Leila mumbled climbing back on the bed and flopped down beside him. “Marc why are you screaming at me, I’m hung over not deaf?” she asked in a whisper.
Marc chuckled quietly. “I’m not screaming, babe,” He mumbled rolling over to face her. Leila was lying on her front and opened her tired blue eyes when she felt something heavy on her legs and waist. “But I can always make you scream if you want?” he said huskily after a beat dropping a kiss on her shoulder.
“God, I have no idea, how you can have the energy to even think of a sexual innuendo right now, Marc.” She muttered closing her eyes.
“I’m a man, it’s in my nature.” He whispered burying his nose into her neck. “So how about it?” he asked smiling.
“Mm, any other place, any other time you might have had a chance, but at this moment of time...hell no.” She said popping one eye open to find their noses almost touching. “My head hurts.” She whispered with a pout.
Marc smiled lazily before he lifted his head and pressed a gentle lingering kiss on her forehead. “I know you’re not alone there.” He watched as she smiled and lifted her head to mimic his action. Marc closed his eyes swallowing hard when her soft lips brushed across his forehead.
“I need some coffee and aspirin inside of me before my head explodes.” Marc said with a sluggish smile. “You stay here I’ll bring you some when it’s done.” He said kissing her on the tip of the nose before pulling the arm and leg he had draped over
Leila and strolled out of the room still clad in the previous nights outfit.
Leila watched him walk out of the room with a smile on her face. She brought a finger to her nose and touched the spot which still tingled from the kiss he dropped there a second ago. She didn’t know when the two had become so touchy feely with each other or how their friendship had developed to flirting.
‘Why is it he leaves a trail of fire on my skin every time he touches me?’ She thought gingerly.
“Here you go.” She snapped out of her thought when she heard Marc’s voice beside her. She sat up taking the mug of steaming coffee and aspirin from him. She smiled gratefully before swallowing the tablet and sipping some coffee to wash it down.
“I am never drinking again.” She mumbled after swallowing the medicine. Marc chuckled shaking his head.
“I’ve been saying that since I was seventeen and here I am at twenty five, even more hung over than I was back then.” Leila smirked sipping her coffee.
“Mm, tell me about it.” She mumbled with a tired sigh. “It was a crazy night though, you gotta admit.” Marc grinned sexily.
“Absolutely,” Leila giggled catching his look. “I’m not sure daddy would be too happy to know his little girl was pole
dancing.” He said impishly. Leila blushed shaking her head.
“Oh shut up, pole dancing is an excellent form of exercise.” She said placing her mug of coffee down.
Marc laughed when she looked flustered. “Who knew the legendary Leila Callaway knew how to pole dance?” he teased. “You’re parents would be so proud.”
Leila rolled her eyes. “Actually, my mother already knows, she’s the one that taught me.” Marc’s brows shot up with interest.
“You’re mother taught you to pole dance?” he asked surprised. Leila nodded.
“Yeah, she and Chase’s father worked together at some classy bar. I remember her dancing when I was younger she was really great. Hell, she still is.”
Marc frowned. “Your mother was a stripper?” Leila laughed shaking her head.
“No, she was an exotic dancer. She kept her clothes on.” Marc pursed his lips.
“And what about your Dad, didn’t it bother him that she was pole dancing to punch of sleazy men?” he questioned. “I mean, he really doesn’t strike me as the type to be okay with something like that.”
Leila shrugged. “They were broken up then. This was after she had me and we were living with Uncle Dru. My father was engaged to Kat at the time, Dayne’s Mom.” Marc nodded understanding but still looked a little confused.
“So you never knew your father when you were younger?” he asked taking a seat beside her.
“I knew who he was, I just never met him until I was five and one day he just showed up at our door, a week after I donated him my blood.” She explained a faraway look in her blue eyes.
Marc nodded. “I remember that, it was all over the news. He was in critical condition; they didn’t think he would make it though.” Leila barely nodded.
“Yeah, my Mom helped him through. I remember the doctors saying he was lost like a shadow in his own mind. The love she felt for him saved his life, a love so strong it broke down all the barriers keeping him away and helped him find way back to her, just by following her voice, feeling her touch and tasting her kiss.” Tears slipped past her blue eyes as she fumbled with her fingers.
Marc slid his fingers under her chin tilting her head up to meet her eyes. “Why the tears, babe?” he asked quietly.
Leila shook her head. “I cry every time I remember that. Everything about what they had...still do have is so beautiful. It was such a painful time for my Mom, for five years her broken heart never mended, she never got over him and he never got over her. That...is true love.” Marc felt a pang in his heart. He knew she was referring to her situation with Chase and that hurt him right down to his deepest core.
“Leila, you deserve someone who can see how truly amazing you are, who will go to the end of the world just see you smile. Someone who loves you fiercely and unconditionally without so much as a single doubt in his mind that you’re the only one he wants to spend the rest of his life with.” He brushed his thumb over her cheeks wiping away her tears. “Leila, you deserve the kind of love that can put a simple word like ‘I love you’ to shame.” Leila sniffled gazing into his violet eyes. “Don’t waste your tears on someone who doesn’t know what you’re truly worth, babe.” Leila wrapped her arms around him burying her nose into the crook of his neck.
“Thank you.” She mumbled Marc closed his eyes willing the ache in his heart to go away. He smiled when she pulled away.
“Don’t mention it. Now come on this is too much of a deep conversation for my poor little hung over mind.” Leila laughed and shook her head.
“Alright, I’m gonna go shower.” She said slipping off the bed and walking out. Marc watched her leave the room and sighed deeply closing his eyes to rid that tedious ache in his chest.
After pulling himself together Marc looked at the bathroom door grinning mischievously. “Mm, it’s payback time, Leila
Callaway.” He said strolling over to the door where he heard Leila singing ‘How Do I Love without You’ he smiled pressing his forehead to the door for a moment before turning the handle only to find it locked. “You gotta make it difficult don’t you?” he mumbled before disappearing into the bedroom and coming back a second later. He perched down and easily picked the lock and grinned when he heard it click.
He crept into the bathroom the scent of her shampoo dazzling him momentarily. He quickly stripped off his clothes and grinned before he pushed the flush to the toilet and second later Leila yelped when the icy water hit her flesh.
“SHIT!” she screamed when Marc pulled the curtain back revealing her five foot five naked form. “Marc, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” she asked her blue eyes wide as she attempted to cover up her private parts from his wandering eyes.
“Payback is a bitch isn’t darling?” he drawled before stepping into the shower with her and pulling the curtain back. Leila was gaping at him like a fish still trying to catch up with reality.
“How the hell did you even get in here?” she asked backing away from him.
“What, you think I don’t know how to pick a lock?” he asked with a smirk.
“This is so not happening.” She mumbled shaking her head as if to wake up from another one of her fantasies.
“Oh it is.” He said his eyes scanning her. Leila glared at him firmly. “What don’t look at me like that, you’ve seen me naked it’s only fair I get see you.” he said peeling her hands away from her body. He took in the full view of her and noticed Leila turn a beautiful shade of pink. He whistled meeting her eyes again. “You really are hot.”
“Alright...” Leila said pulling her arms away from him to covering her privates again. “Now that you’ve got your eye full you can get out.” She said and watched as Marc grinned taking a step closer to her. Leila gasped when her back met with the cool tiled wall of the shower. She felt herself getting hot when Marc pressed his body into her his arm reaching over her head as they stepped under the spray together.
“What are you doing?” she asked breathily as his lips inched closer to hers, eyes boring into each other.
“I’m taking a shower, what does it look like.” he said pulling his arm back and showing her his shampoo bottle before stepping away from her slightly.
Leila wasn’t sure if she was thankful or disappointed that he stepped away. Her eyes wandered down to his manhood while he was washing his hair. She smiled when she noticed he was hard, which meant he was just as affected as she was.
Suddenly being in the shower with him didn’t feel so bad; of course once the initial shock wore off that is. They began singing a duet while showering together. “Leila you’re out of tune.” Marc teased while washing her back.
Leila fought the urge to shiver every time his fingers brushed her skin. “Shut up, I’m totally in tune; you don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said swatting him with the cloth in her hand.
Marc winced when the cloth met his skin with a thwack. “Ow, that hurt!” he said swatting her on the ass in return.
Leila gasped rubbing her backside. “Did you just spank me?” she asked eyes wide.
Marc grinned, “Yup,” Leila blushed crimson before recovering. “You want more?”
“Ow!” Marc hissed before arching a brow at her.
“Do you?” she asked in return.
“Mmm, kinky...I like it.” he said turning and shaking his sexy backside at her. “Gimme more.” Leila laughed.
“You have issues, I hope you know that.” She said with giggle.
Marc smiled widely. “Well, no thanks to you I have a very big problem now.” He said gesturing to his now very noticeable erection. Leila blushed.
“Marcus Quinn, get rid of that thing right now!” she said covering it with her hand.
Marc feigned hurt. “Shhh, you’ll hurt his feelings. And it is not a thing, he has a name.” He said and watched as Leila looked at him amused.
“Oh god, I gotta hear this one. What’s his name?” she asked with a chuckle.
“Master M.” Leila pressed her lips together but couldn’t stop the laughter that was bubbling up inside of her. The harder she tried the more she failed, so with a snort it all tumbled out of her.
Marc chuckled. “Did you just snort?” he asked the laughing girl before him.
Ha! Ha! Ha! (Snort) Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! (Snort) (Snort) Ha! Ha! Ha! (Snort) It wasn’t pretty, to say the least!
Marc threw his back and laughed at her. “Leila, just so you know the snorting isn’t a good colour on you.” he said with a chuckle. “You little dork.” He added after a beat.
Leila couldn’t stop laughing and the more Marc shushed her the louder she began laughed. “Oh my gooood!” she squealed holding her stomach. “I can’t breatheeee.”
Marc shook his head with a chuckle. “You’re crazy, has anyone ever told you that?”
“Nope, you’re the first. God I haven’t laughed that hard since high school.”
“Did you happen to be a geek in high school?” he asked with a smirk.
“No, why?” she question with a frown while washing her hair. Marc shrugged.
“Nothing, I was just wondering where the hell the snorting came from, because that laugh would put most geeks to shame.” Leila giggled.
“No, I was head cheerleader.” She said proudly. “I was way too cool to be a geek. How about you?”
“I was a Jock, captain of the varsity football and swim team.” He grinned roguishly. “Too bad we didn’t attend the same high school, captain and head cheerleader, baby we would have ruled the school.” He winked when Leila shook her head.
She waved her hand dismissively. “I couldn’t be troubled with all that high society garbage. I did my studying graduated with honours and left.” She shrugged. “I didn’t care for any more attention than I was already getting. Trust me it gets annoying when people follow you around like lost puppies all day.” she said reaching for a towel before she stepped out.
Marc watched as she walked out before washing off and stepping out himself.
Later that afternoon the two decided to relax on the beach for the rest of the day. That’s when their new friends decided to join them.
“Ahoy, bitches.” Elle said with a grin when she reached Leila and Marc. Marc was lying on his back while Leila covered him with sand.
“Hey, guys.” They both greeted with matching grins.
“I see you two are still alive after last night, ay?” Ben said flopping down beside Leila.
“Barely, we had the mother of all hang over’s this morning.” Marc said yawning.
Leila nodded agreeing. “I don’t even wanna remember half the shit I did last night.” She said throwing sand at Marc who scowled
at her.
“If you’re referring to the stripper pole moves, boy you had every guy fucking hooked staring at you with tongues hanging out.” Dean said with a wink.
Leila blushed. “I wasn’t that bad, you’re acting as though I stripped off or something.” Ben Dean and Trevor let out a string of wolf whistles.
“So check it out right, I heard there’s another great party tonight, you guys down or what?” Elle asked but frowned when Leila and Marc exchanged looks.”Come on, I thought you guys were here to go crazy?”
Leila sighed. “Fine, we’ll go. But I’m not drinking that much again tonight.” Leila said and the boys groaned. “Oh shush, I’ve embarrassed myself enough to last me a lifetime.” Marc chuckled only to get a fistful of sand thrown in his face.
An hour later Leila, Trevor, Dean, Christina, Yazmin and Ben were all in a race to see who would build the biggest and best sand castle.
Marc and Elle just sat back and watched the rest play with the sand like a bunch of kids. Marc kept a close eye on Leila and hadn’t realised he was watching her intently until he felt Elle poke him.
“What?” he asked blinking at her. Elle looked at him them back at Leila.
“What’s the deal with you two, are you two together or what?” she asked boldly.
Marc shook his head. “No, we’re just good friends.”
“Bollocks.” Marc frowned.
“I beg your pardon?” he asked confused.
“I said bollocks. Come on Marc, any fool can see that you’re into her. You’re both single fucking make your move before someone else does.”
“It’s not that simple. Leila’s kind of had it tough these past few weeks, besides she doesn’t see me like that.” He said trying to keep the disappointment from his voice. “She’s in love with someone else.” He said looking back at Leila who was laughing with Yazmin.
Elle regarded Marc carefully for a second before speaking. “Oh god, this is one of those unrequited love triangles, isn’t it?” when Marc remained silent Elle shook her head. “You poor sod.”
Marc sighed heavily the ache he felt before creeping up on him once again. “So who is she supposedly in love with?” Elle asked watching Leila for a moment before turning back to face him.
“Chase, her best friend of seventeen years, he’s kind of the reason we’re here. He was stupid enough to reject her when she told him she’s in love with him. He broke her heart so she wanted to leave and get away for a while to clear her head.” He explained.
“So why don’t you swoop in and make your move?”
Marc looked at her like she had grown two heads. “Because, I don’t wanna be her rebound guy, that’s why. I want her to want me for me not because some asshole hurt her and she’s just looking to make herself feel better.”
“Marc, I think you’re wrong. She may be on the rebound I’m almost certain Leila wants you too.” Elle said crossing her legs.
Marc was confused. “And how exactly did you come to that conclusion?”
Elle rolled her eyes shaking her head before answering. “Look us women aren’t as complex as you men seem to think we are. It’s almost too obvious from the way she looks at you, or the way she blushes when you touch her. You may not be able to see it but to a third party observer it’s crystal clear.”
Marc chuckled. “You’re insane, at the moment all she see’s all she wants is, Chase.” Marc said almost bitterly.
“Care to test theory?” she asked and Marc frowned at her even more confused.
“How exactly are we going to do that?”
“By making her jealous, if she doesn’t feel anything for you like you seem to believe, then she wouldn’t care. However, if she does then she’s going to act all weird around you, even be mad at you.” she said and then grinned wickedly. “Trust me there is nothing a woman wants more than something she can’t have.” She finished with a wink.
Marc stopped to think about this. Could she be right? Does Leila like him?
“Elle, the last thing I wanna do this hurt her. I don’t wanna play stupid guessing games. I just want her I always have ever since I set my eyes on her.”
Elle’s brows furrowed with surprise. “Bloody hell, Marc, you don’t only like her you’re in love with her, aren’t you?” Marc barely nodded dropping his eyes to the ground. “So what the fuck you waiting for, this could be your chance?”
Marc shook his head. “My chance for what, exactly, she’s in love with Chase. Say I tell her I love her and she maybe decides to give us a shot, then we get back to California and that dickhead decides he wants her back. Who do you think she’s going to choose me, who has only known her a few measly months or Chase, who she has loved for seventeen years? Tell me honestly who
will win that battle?” Marc said dejectedly.
“Marc you can’t think like that. It doesn’t matter how long you know someone if you love them you love them, you know?”
“I just want her to be happy, Elle. Whether it’s me or Chase I just want her to be happy, she deserves that and so much more.” He said slipping his sunglasses on quickly when Leila looked up at him. He didn’t want her to see the tears that had pooled in his eyes.
“And what about you, Marc?”
He shook his head with a shrug, “What about me, you can’t lose something you never had, right?” he said squarely.
Elle shook her head. “Bullshit, do have any idea how hard it is to lose someone you love, it hurts like a bitch, Marc.”
“Well, you know the saying if you love something you set it free. As much as I love Leila I know she will never love me like she loves Chase. I love her enough to let her go when the time comes, it will hurt but I’ll do it. Chase will come to his senses soon enough and come after her, I just know it.”
Elle couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. Leila was unknowingly tearing him apart and Marc’s the nice guy that he is was taking the blows silently. “Aren’t you even the tiniest bit curious to know if she feels anything for you?” she asked watching his reaction closely.
His reaction was to sigh deeply. “Yes and no, if I find out she does feel something for me, it’s just gonna hurt even more when it’s time for me to let her go.”
“You don’t know that for sure, Marc. You might not have to give her up at all. Wouldn’t you rather know when you have the chance rather than sit around and wonder in future if things could have been different?”
Marc licked his lips contemplating what Elle was saying, truth was he did want to know if Leila felt something--anything for him. “Yeah I guess.” He mumbled, “So what do we do?” he asked, Elle grinned.
“We make her see what she’s missing. Quick, kiss me.” Marc blinked.
“What?” he asked pulling down his shades and glaring at her. Elle plastered a seductive smile on her face and ran her fingers down muscular biceps.
“Kiss me you fool.” She said through her smile. “Blimey those are big.” She said with a smirk.
Marc grinned shaking his head but decided to go with the flow. After glancing at Leila he found her watching the two with interest, he licked his lips reaching out cup Elle’s cheek and brushed his lips over hers. Either Elle was an excellent actress or she was really getting into the kiss because she shifted settling herself in his lap before curling her tongue around his deepening the kiss.
Ben looked up from his sand castle with a grin and looked around the group until his eyes fell on Leila who was looking ahead frozen like a statue. He followed her gaze and gasped when he saw Elle and Marc making out heatedly.
Leila watched as Marc kissed Elle heatedly and couldn’t place the sudden ache in her chest. Why was she jealous? She has no hold over him he can make out and sleep with whomever he pleases.
“Leila...” Ben began but Leila shook her head.
“Um, I’m gonna go for a swim to cool off a little.” She said standing up and running into the water. A little while later she came back out feeling refreshed. She looked where Marc and Elle were sitting earlier and found their deck chairs empty. “Hey where did Marc and Elle go?” She asked Dean who gestured towards the house.
“They took off inside, which is a good thing if you ask me, because they were seconds away from tearing each other’s clothes off.” He said with a shrug.
“Oh.” She mumbled disappointedly. Her blue eyes looking at the house she and Marc were sharing.

“What did I tell you?” Elle asked folding her arms over her chest while she sat back on Marc’s bed. Marc looked back at her before looking back out of the window at Leila who was sitting on her deck chair a faraway look in her eyes. “Was I right, or was I right?”
“You were right, but I’m still not the one she really wants. She could be jealous but that doesn’t mean she loves me.” Elle shifted off the bed and stood next to him.
“It’s a start right?” She asked placing her hand on his shoulder. Marc looked back at her and shook his head.
“I’m just setting myself up to get hurt, Elle. I can’t make her happy if I’m not what she wants.”
Elle sighed. “Marc, for goodness sake take the chance while you still have a shot. If not you’re going to kick yourself in the future. I mean if you’re so convinced that you’re going to lose her anyway why not make the most of what time you do have with her?” Elle asked.
“Because, I’m scared I won’t be able to give her up when that times comes. I’m scared I’m going to fall even more in love with her and its going to kill me when she chooses him over me. I’m not going to live in the shadow of another man, I can’t. She belongs with Chase, as much as it hurts to admit that, it’s the truth and I have to live with it.” He said disconsolately.
Leila stood on the other side of the door her mouth open and tears pooled in her blue eyes...

So everyone seems undecisive about who they want Leila to end up with. to be honest so am I. So we're gu=onna take a poll.
Marc or Chase?
