Miles stepped back and grinned toothily down at his old friend. “I’ve missed you, you know that?” He leered.

Oberon laughed huskily and leaned back against the wall. Both Vampire’s mouths were shiny and puffy from the kisses they’d been sharing. “Maybe if you’re lucky I’ll let you show me just how much.” He ran a lazy hand down the other man’s bare chest. Miles was totally masculine, broad shouldered, solid and hairy. Just the way Oberon liked them.

Miles chuckled and leaned down to claim another kiss. Oberon opened his mouth for the other Vampire’s tongue, letting his hands roam across Miles’ face, across the straps of his eye patch to tangle in his dark brown hair.

Oberon pulled away when Miles slipped his hands up the smaller Vampire’s shirt and felt his smooth chest and belly, “I thought you were going to tell me what bullshit you wanted me to spoon feed to Paige?” He smiled and raised an eyebrow.

Miles gave Oberon’s ear a nibble before finally pulling back, “Well, if you insist…”

Hunter snorted and sat back down on the bed, “So Jacques gets to go out, but neither of us do?” He wondered irritably.

“Apparently Jacques can take care of himself and we can’t.” Amon sat back, “Well, you can’t. I, on the other hand-“ Amon grinned when Hunter smacked him on the back of his head. Hunter moved to do it again, so Amon grabbed him and rolled them over so Hunter was laying on top of him. Since this whole mess had started, the two of them were both going crazy. There wasn’t much for them to do but play video games and fool around. In fact, about the only time Hunter wasn’t being crabby and snappish from being cooped was when Amon was making him delirious with pleasure.

Amon gave Hunter’s chin a nibble, and Hunter tilted his head up to give Amon more access to his throat. Amon began working his way down Hunter’s throat until Hunter’s stomach rumbled loudly in complaint. The two of them glanced at each other.

“I’m cooking.” Amon said quickly, gently rolling Hunter off onto the bed.

“Oh no way, you always cook, I always get stuck folding clothes.” Hunter grumbled and gave the pile of clean laundry on the end of the bed a dirty look.

Amon gave Hunter a quick kiss and got off the bed, “Too bad, I called it, I’m cooking. I’ll bring you coffee, too.” Amon smiled at the slightly mollified look on Hunter’s face at that. Everyone had their vice, their little addiction. Hunter’s was coffee. All kinds of coffee, any kind of coffee, he’d drink it. No matter how good or how bad.

Hunter stood up and Amon gave him another lingering kiss before heading off to the living room. Hunter shook his head and started folding the pile of clothes.

He was part way through matching Amon’s socks when he heard a weird scratching and banging sound. Well, that was weird. It took him a few moments of careful listening before he figured out that it was coming from outside.

“I’m gonna open the curtains, be careful.” He called to no one in particular. As it stood, he was the only human in the apartment just then. He went to the window, where custom shutters had been installed on the inside to block out all of the sunlight. He flipped the latch and opened them up. He squinted in the sunlight he was no longer used to and looked down.

“… Well, that’s interesting.” Paige commented, leaning back on the couch and curling her legs underneath her. “How exactly did you find all of this out?” She had a very good idea how Oberon managed to get all this information, but she wasn’t entirely sure.

Oberon smiled ambiguously, “Oh, a little sugar goes a long way.”

That cinched it, “And what exactly did you do to make Miles reveal all of these master plans to you? If you two are such good friends that he’d trust you implicitly, I don’t see how I can trust that you’ve suddenly decided you want to be a part of my life again.” She steepled her fingers and regarded him thoughtfully.

Oberon eyed her and shrugged a little, “He’s not as smart as he thinks he is. Miles and I had a thing back in the 60’s, and Miles tends to equate that with friendship and affection. Veronica fucked him for a decade, doesn’t mean she gave a shit. Hence… Why we’re here today.”

“Ohh, the two of you had a thing, mm?” She smiled, watching his face carefully. He’d never been good at keeping his poker face in place as far as she was concerned. “I hope this thing isn’t going to stop you from ripping his fucking head off if I tell you to, is it?”

“Not at all.” Oberon said easily, leaning back. Paige could rip the thoughts from his head, but it was funner to play with him. He had betrayed her in the past, and she had let him live. She wouldn’t be so kind if he did it a second time. “He-“ The both of them froze at the sound of glass shattering in the other room.

Oberon’s eyes widened. Amon was in the kitchen, the glass came from the bedroom, “Hunter?”

As if summoned by the sound of his name, the Vampires heard a very freaked out Hunter yell, “Holy shit!”

He hadn’t known they’d been planning on stealing Amon’s human. Miles hadn’t told him that. The two Vampires ran towards the bedroom, stopping as beams of light coming from the broken window stopped them. They heard the kitchen window break but heard no sounds of a struggle coming from Amon as they saw the last of Hunter being dragged out the broken window.

“What the fuck happened?” Amon demanded, shoving past Oberon and stepping right into the sunlight. He held up his arms to shield his eyes as his bare skin began to burn and blister under the sun’s rays. “Fuck!” He swore as Paige pulled him back into the shadows. Vampires didn’t just magically combust when they stepped into the sunlight; that would be ridiculous. Burning to death by sunlight was a long, extremely painful death.

Amon seemed uninterested in taking a look at the burns on his arms and chest though, “How the fuck did something just climb up the fucking building and snatch him like that! You said he’d be safe here, you said-“ Amon grunted as Paige smacked him hard across the face. He glared and rubbed his stinging cheek.

“There’s a rogue Lycanthrope in town.” Oberon explained, “And the weres from his pack are helping Miles kill you in exchange for him helping them kill their rogue.” He sniffed noisily, “One of them must have climbed up and smashed the window… They’re probably still climbing down, they’re probably right there. But of course we can’t follow…”

“Not fucking helping, Oberon.” Amon muttered.

Paige raised her hands up, “Enough. Jacques is not here, and neither are your Thralls.” She said to Oberon, “We can not follow them right now, so we have to sit down and make some kind of plan for when nightfall hits.”

Oberon already had his cell phone out and was texting messaging his humans, “I’m going to get Suzi and Giorgio to investigate and see if they can’t find anything.” He said, sending them both the same text.

Paige ushered Amon into the living room and away from the sunlight; she didn’t want him doing anything stupid. Well. He was going to do stupid things no matter, he was just stupid like that. But hopefully she could minimize the chances of him killing himself in the process.

Amon was still blabbering about his poor wittle Hunter, and Paige just didn’t want to hear it. “SHUT UP!” She bellowed. He stared at her, and she thought he might really try and defy her this time. Well, if he wanted to play hardball she had a set of chains and a ball gag in her closet. Normally she used those on Jacques, but she wouldn’t hesitate to tie Amon up too.

Granted she doubted Amon would like that as much as Jacques did.

“We can not get Hunter right now. This is a shock to me too. You are going to sit down, shut up and do what I tell you. Understand?” She raised her eyebrows. Amon glared and sat stiffly on the couch.

“Maybe the Lycanthropes did this one on their own, Miles never told me they wanted him.” Oberon insisted and sat down in a chair.

“Or maybe Miles isn’t as stupid as you think he is.” Paige countered, pacing throughout the living room.

“But think of it, Paige. Blood Wars aside, Vampires never go after each other’s Thralls unless that Thrall is actively a part of the fighting. Never.” Oberon argued.

Paige shook her head, “Almost never.” She saw the question written across Amon’s slightly sunburned face and said, “If we want to fight and kill each other, that’s one things. But almost every Vampire has a Thrall these days, and they don’t take kindly to knowing people are wantonly hurting them. Especially since these days Thralls are extremely important. With the police detectives becoming so soon, we can’t be killing people all over the place like we used to. Thralls are completely paramount to us remaining a secret.”

She held up her hand before Amon could interrupt, “That’s not to say it’s against the law to take and harm Thralls. There are no laws. There is no almighty Vampire council or any such thing. What we are is a loosely knit society and democracy, and the majority of us, the vast majority, do not support what Miles has just done.”

Amon wasn’t hearing her though, wasn’t listening to her. He wanted Hunter back. He wanted him now. He wanted-

“PAY ATTENTION!” Paige bellowed right in his face, causing him to fall back on the couch cushions.
“What I’m getting to, my dear, is that Miles has stepped over the line and a lot of people are going to be cross with him, a lot of people that otherwise would not have gotten involved. Miles just made himself an entire army of new enemies.” She grabbed Amon by the jaw and made him look at her.

“What if Miles hurts him?” Amon asked softly.

Paige’s smile was vicious, “Then Miles is setting himself up for a slow trip to Hell.”
