Chapter 19

Bonnie took the opportunity to ask them “you said you got the antitoxin because of an half human, half Toooilan. Who is he and how do you know him?”

“His name is Carmen Bradely, his mother-Robin Bradely-was a sex slave to an full-blooded Toooilan, just as your sister was.” Mother frowned at him as she asked, “was? Why past tense? Did she escape or was she rescued like Lisa?”

“Neither, she was brutally murdered by Carmen’s father when he was thirteen, right in front of him too.” At this mother and the others were horrified “but why? Why would he do that?”

“Robin to him was property, not love. He had had Carmen conceived and raised as his heir, but Carmen, despite being half Toooilan from his father and part from the human ancestry, has an incredibly strong to carry over to Carmen when every other Toooilan\human offspring has been pure evil.”

“Except Theral” the red head man added and the boy nodded “except him” before going on with “all Carmen wants to do is be with his human lover, half brother and his half brother’s half brother. They even recently discovered Robin’s mother and father. It didn’t take long after getting to know their grandson for Ceryl and Carol to learn to love him like one.”

“They don’t care who or what his father is, they see their daughter in him’ the man said, “they have even taken it on themselves to not only teach him right but help him with his older brothers, one needs love and forgiveness for being their fathers slaves all his life and the other has an incredible lot to learn, having been locked up from the moment of his birth. The only contact Neville ever had to the world outside his cell was his mother, father and twin until he was sixteen, his mothers, OTHER son-his half brother-and Carmen’s father.”

The boy spoke again, adding to his father “I thought by being separated from my father at fourteen I had missed out, but after meeting Neville I realized just how good I really had it. Imagine being born in a locked cell and spending your entire life there, no schools, no friends, no socializing, no reading, writing or even maths. The only things he knew was in that cell, what his parents told him. Then when his mother died and his father and twin was killed he was on his own.”

“We understand. He is Carmen half brother?” The red head boy looked at them as he answered “His half brother’s half brother.”

Robert frowned at him “how does that work?” And he answered it, “Neville and Theral share the same mother, Theral and Carmen share the same father. As the eldest you could say that Theral is the pivot point of the group. He is a slave to their father until a cure for the Ice Serum can be found, even though his brothers love him dearly, they haven’t yet been able to help him yet and Carmen especially feels guilty about it because he is their fathers chosen heir.”

“Wait a minute, did you say Theral? Isn’t he-wasn’t he...?”

“The offspring of a rape by Zimmer? Yes he was and is. Theral was raised by a mutant family but Zimmer got him back after slaughtering his only family. He told Theral who he was and what he was and told him as his son he had a place by his side as his heir and right hand.”

“If Carmen is his chosen heir then Theral must have refused” Robert reasoned “is that why he made his slave?”

“Part of it” the man nodded solemnly “when Theral refused-this man had ordered the slaughter of the only family he knew and responsible for his biological mothers death-of course he’d refuse, he became a danger to Zimmer. His presence in the human world meant the constant chance of exposure. And what if say the PADD found him just after discovering Zimmer’s existence?”

“They could not only learn the inner-workings of his fortress but all the weak points of an Toooilan” Harold said and the boy nodded, looking at them intently “after his father killed his only family, do you think he’d even hesitate to help the PADD? Especially when they would give him a way to get back at him and even-when they learn to trust him, a new family?” Mother and the others understood this and Bonnie asked curiously “how did Tommas react to Carmen joining you all?”

“When The PADD first started and discovered Zimmer’s presence and deeds they were willing to give him a chance, but not Tommas. The minute he found out WHAT the alien was he hated him ‘You can’t trust him’ he told them ‘he’ll turn you against each other each other and lie to you, he’ll make all those you faced in the past look like children.’

The man spoke out “his ‘daughter’ Cathrine spoke to Karralmer alone and pleaded with him to believe her father. Finally he agreed to be careful, but he couldn’t just judge the man for no good reason. However their attitude changed when the alien had him and his mother kidnapped and tortured-then the woman’s rape and murder before they believed him, even then they demanded to know HOW he knew and wouldn’t leave him alone when he refused to answer.”

“That’s understandable” Robert said, “I mean how would they react to him so soon after meeting them if he said ‘how do I know he’s evil? Because I’m half Toooilan too.’ Not only would he be treated as a freak but perhaps with suspicion because of his heritage.”

“What about Carmen?”

“We were getting to that,” the boy said, “when Karralmer accepted Carmen into the PADD he was one of only a few who knew about Tommas and the history of mankind. Not even the entire PADD knew it, only that Tommas was an truly ancient being, perhaps as old as all mankind, that he and our ancestor had been trusted friends and companions for a long time, that that was why we accepted him among our kind so easily and readily.” His father went on for him “Carmen is half human and half Toooilan-in a sense he is the same race as Tommas is, exactly the same.”

“Of course” Robert said, “think about it. Humans are 2/3rd Valori and 1/3rd Toooilan. Tommas is half Toooilan and half Valori.”
“How do you figure?” Bonnie questioned him.

“Carmen’s father is full Toooilan and his mother was human. That makes him half from his fathers side and half Valori 1/3rd Toooilan from his mothers side.”

“Half Toooilan and half Valori” mother breathed but Bonnie frowned “but by your logic that makes him ¾ Toooilan, ¾ Valori and that doesn’t make sense, let alone work.”

“If you think that’s complicated then try this. Just recently Carmen has become an fledgling Idar as well as an Shanard.”
“Shanard?” this was new to them “What’s an Shanard?”

“There is only twelve of these guys in existence, seven males and five females. They are essentially Tommas’ descendants.”
“I thought you said he never...”

“I did and they aren’t THAT sort. Remember Tommas’ clone sons?” when they nodded he went on “one of them, Josef, wanted to change himself completely. He was jealous that Tommas chose to live with his ‘sister’ away from the village, angry that they had been abandoned with the warning to protect the village with their lives, he hated their ‘father’. So he took over the village as Tommas’ chosen heir and stole a shard of the sacred stone forbidden to all but Kerentara himself.

The powerful shard changed Josef-but not in the way he had hoped. It bonded to him on an molecular level, gifting him with powers and abilities only dreamed of, literally made him the embodiment of magic, but he was still Tommas’ clone. By the time Tommas had found out what he had done it was too late, Josef had fallen in love with an human, married and gifted her, his own son and his loves parents as well as some others.”

“And Carmen is one too?”

“Yes. When he joined the PADD Tommas couldn’t and wouldn’t trust him. He saw Carmen as just another Toooilan, only this one trying to infiltrate his new family by trickery. No matter what was said to or around him or what was done, he refused to give the boy a chance and see the god and honor inside him. It became worse-the situation, that is-when Carmen learned about him and started to idolize him.”

“Oh boy” Robert breathed and they could all imagine it, the boy following Tommas around, eyes alight in hero worship and copying the man’s behavior and mannerisms. The ancient already believed he was a spy, the shift of attention to him would just feed his paranoia.

“When did he start trusting him? I mean they are the same and Carmen idolized him, they would at least have to make an truce with each other.”

“Not long after becoming Idar Carmen learned through Theral that Zimmer had discovered Josef and the village in the African jungle. He wanted that power for himself since he couldn’t seem to force it from the Idars or PADD, and saw them as an easy target. He kidnapped Sooca, Josef’s son and in a way Tommas’ grandson and he held him hostage, threatening to kill him if Josef didn’t give him a shard of the sacred stone, then tortured Sooca for how to use it. Sooca just laughed in his face so Zimmer had him force-fed Ice Serum, after all, what use was a shard of the crystal if he didn’t know how to use it?”

“Did Sooca tell him?” mother asked in apprehension.

“No, again he laughed at Zimmer and refused to do anything he ordered. No matter the strength of the Ice Serum tried even the pure didn’t work and usually only 20% is needed.” They were aghast “He’s immune? How?”

“Zimmer threw Sooca into a cell, frustrated and trying to figure it out. Why was he immune when even full Idars weren’t? How was his biology different to everyone else in the world, except of course for Tommas, Cathrine and Karralmer.”

“Could it be their Toooilan biology?” Robert suggested, “I mean Cathrine and Sooca share Tommas’ genetics, if he’s immune so should all related to him.”

“That’s what Zimmer concluded, but he was wrong.” The boy said but Robert frowned “How do you know for sure?”

“Simple Carmen isn’t immune to it and neither was Theral.” To this Robert frowned deeper “but they’re half human and humans aren’t immune.” The red headed teenager came back with “but Sooca is half human as well.” His father continued “neither are Valori and Tommas is half, so he should be.” Robert sighed heavily and said in a tired voice “then why don’t YOU tell US what you think it was.”

“Sooca knew what it was from the first time, which was why he kept laughing at Zimmer. He also knew there was a one in a billion chance that the alien could discover not only the way to kill him but also the ceremony needed to access the power of the shard of the crystal, so either way Zimmer would loose. He had only to wait for ‘uncle Josly’ to come to rescue him.”
“You still haven’t...” Robert started but the boy interrupted “wait. An hour later the cell was unlocked long enough to thrust an old couple in-both in their mid fifties. They started to talk and Sooca found out they were called Carol and Cyril Bradely and they were searching for their missing daughter.”

“Carmen’s grandparents!” Bonnie gasped and the boy nodded solemnly “and Carmen himself was the next in the cell, beaten and tortured.”

“How did his father get him?” mother asked softly and the man went on for his son “Cathrine-Dale had gone to visit her love and learned of the hostage situation. She had fled home and told her father and grandfathers, begging them to rescue her love. Carmen already knew through Theral and was about to tell Karralmer when she beat him to it. When he saw how angry Tommas was he realized he could use this situation.”

“How so?”

“If he risked his life to save and rescue the other boy, not only would Josef owe him but Tommas would have to accept he wasn’t as evil as his father. He went to the palace and let himself be caught-even though he knew he’d be tortured first-a small price to pay in his mind for all the gratitude and respect it would get him.”

“Tommas would have just said he did it to try and trick them into doing that” Robert said and the man nodded, the boy going on for his father “However in that cell he discovered something more than a way to get the thankfulness of the man he idolized. He discovered human family and something infinitely more powerful than the respect of your peers-something I never had in my youth until the Idars.”

“What?” they were curious.

“Friendship, the simple dedication and relationship of someone your own age whom you can relate to. You see Sooca only has family and their friends, those he lived with were simply beyond him-or rather he was beyond THEM. None of the villagers had been able to simply connect with him. Yet Carmen and he connected almost immediately.”

His father spoke out “they fulfilled each other, giving each other that missing part of their lives. In a way it was the way between Hauleric and Kerentara again. Sooca has the soul of an Valori and Carmen relies on him heavily for knowing right from wrong and his just plain unconditional friendship.”

“How did Carmen become like them?” Harold asked and the boy went on for them “just after becoming friends and when Zimmer discovered-thanks to Sooca-he could no longer influence or control his own son no matter what he tried, he decided that, like Theral, he had only one further use.” Eyes wide mother said “he was going to enslave him too, wasn’t he.”

The man nodded solemnly again, “Theral couldn’t let his little brother become a slave like him so he risked exposing himself and called Sooca ‘you can’t let it happen’ he said to him. Sooca answered ‘what are you talking about?’ Theral said quickly ‘father force-fed Carmen pure serum, he’ll become just like me within twelve hours. You can’t let it happen to him.’

So Sooca and his ‘uncle Josly’ and fellow vampires broke in and took him away. Knowing there was no actual cure for the pure serum Sooca confronted his father and told him if he didn’t ‘gift’ Carmen as he had the others not only would he leave the village forever and live with ‘granddad Tommy’ but he would also inform the man of some of Josef’s little...indiscretions.

Of course Josef was pissed that his own son was blackmailing him-Sooca if pushed can be every bit the asshole his father is- but Sarah Sooca’s mother and Josef’s wife, spoke to him alone. Josef loves Sarah with all he is and was, she is his point of control and consciousness-kind of like Tommas and Cathrine-and he would do anything or sacrifice ANYTHING to make her and their son happy, so when she calmly explained why Sooca was doing and acting that way he fully realized and accepted it, agreeing to do it for him. Once complete and Carmen was free from the serum, Zimmer took him back again.”

“Don’t you see” the boy said softly “why Sooca was immune?”

“Yes” Robert said thoughtfully “becoming one of these...Shanard’s makes you immune.” The boy nodded to this “when your body is the embodiment of magic such a drug is useless.”

“What did Zimmer do to him?”

“Carmen now had the power Zimmer wanted so badly so he decided on an different angle, sweet-talk. He played the poor mistreated endearing father, telling Carmen he had given him everything he had ever wanted, everything he had needed or asked of him, yet he had betrayed him. He had imposed no rules on him, let him explore the full boundaries of his youth and enjoy his childhood as not many-not just humans-get a chance to do.”

“He was trying to make him feel guilty, wasn’t he” Robert frowned and when the adult red head nodded solemnly mother as him if it had worked. “Not at first” the boy said bluntly and when mother asked him why not the man answered “first point Carmen knew us and the Protectors, he trusted us over his father-second he had met his grandparents and already knew their side of the story. Sooca was his best friend and more-a brother whether related genetically or not. Who do you think Carmen would believe, his father or best friend and grandparents?”

Before they could speak the answer the boy continued “as an Idar-even part-and one of Richard’s he had access to his direct memories, he saw and felt every experience with him through him.” The man added “not to mention the way he idolized Tommas.”

“And Tommas hated Zimmer” Robert added for him, the man nodding and Jules putting in with “he’d want to make him proud of him to try and win him over.”

“Correct” the man added, “you see since Carmen had become part Shanard and Sooca’s best friend Tommas had started to accept him. Sooca is pure and cannot be fooled like anyone or thing else, so upon seeing how close the two had quickly become, how much his ‘grandson’ loved and completely trusted and believed in Carmen, Tommas began to let down his guard to the half alien-as much as Tommas does to anyone outside his little ‘family’ anyway.

In return Carmen was completely open with him and soon he and Tommas developed a grudging respect and then friendship. Tommas once told me he saw in Carmen shades of himself but with one major difference, Carmen’s Valori heritage gave him a sense of self and honor that gave him a powerful conscious where he didn’t that that heritage and honor had won over his father’s teachings and he was proud to know him, he was what he had wished for in a real son, but never wanted to risk having in case the opposite happened.

When his father got him back and I was made aware he was contemplating killing himself rather than risk his father tricking him back to his side I was forced to tell him what Tommas had said to convince him not to take the easy way out, to fight and confront his father.”

“What happened?” Robert asked curiously “when he finally confronted his father?”

“ Zimmer tried to sweet-talk him, to make him feel guilty as you said, but it wasn’t working. Carmen knew his father too well, he knew he was being conned. But then Robin joined in, probably at Zimmer’s previous order. This seriously shook Carmen’s resolve. He had always loved his mother unconditionally and completely, she was the only real innocence and purity in his life and since his birth-his only source of unconditional love before discovering the truth of Theral. Most Carmen’s anger and hate at his father came from what he had done to his mother-what she had been and could have been but Zimmer making her a slave to his sex and lust.

Robin pleaded with him in tears to come back, telling him how much she loved him and accepted anything he did because he was her son, but the game was over, it was time to stop playing the rebellious teenager and come back to them, to stay there, it was his home. Can you image what all this is doing to Carmen? How confused, upset and guilty this was making him feel?” They were horrified and nodded solemnly, mother managing “did he go back to them?”

“He told me he was seriously on the verge of doing so when he noticed something.”

“What?” mother asked with bated breathe. “While his mother had been begging him he had stood there, unable to see with eyes full of tears. His decision to return, his determination dried those and for the first time since his mother started her begging he saw what they were doing.”

“They were going at it, weren’t they, having sex, making love” I spoke out. I had awoken during Tommas story and at first hadn’t known what was going on but soon curious I settled down to listen as well. After a few minutes of being fussed over, repeating that I was fine and in no pain, just a little weak it all settled down and I looked back at the father and son “I’m right, aren’t I.”

The man spoke “Zimmer never has sex our makes love-or unions in our tongue-that involves another’s pleasure. He doesn’t love, he fucks” the way the mans voice tripped over the F word made it sound what it was, a curse word, but more than that, like it wasn’t in his vocabulary-as if he himself was incapable of such an act.

Then I realized that was probably right. I asked softly “what did he do? When he saw them like that.”

The man answered me ”he became confused, anger at his father blurring with visions of memories, memories of what that felt like, joining his father like that when he was younger, memories of him with Debbie.”

“Debbie?” mother asked and he answered evenly “Carmen’s own lust slave.” At their horrified looks the man went on to explain “you must remember Zimmer raised him with his own morals and women-especially human women-to him are merely toys, objects to use and abuse until their usefulness is over. Debbie was the child of an Ice Servant and sex slave, she was raised as Carmen’s own lust slave but to Carmen-even as a child-she was more. She was his wife and sister, his lover and his loved one. From day one he knew he couldn’t and wouldn’t be happy with a slave-that’s why he didn’t pick one of the offspring of the sex slaves-he wanted an equal, someone an almost intellectual equal who would have their own opinion, not what he told them it was.”

“And Zimmer let him? Why? Didn’t he think it wrong when his own wife was a slave and Carmen’s had free will, a normal human wife.”

“Zimmer didn’t see it that way. His son had been only eight years old and he had already done evil, he was proud of him. Until he realized the truth years later that was.”

“What do you mean?” Bonnie frowned, “what evil?”

“I mean the fact of Debbie and her parents. From the moment he saw her, Carmen was intrigued and enamored by her, he wanted her both physically and mentally and it was because of those feelings that her parents became Ice Servants. They went from an innocent happy family, two loving parents and their beautiful child, too two mindless adults who cared about nothing but sex and obedience-let alone a heartbroken daughter. It was while she was so vulnerable that they all, by that I mean Carmen, Zimmer and Robin, began to reteach Debbie what they saw as right, as in right from wrong and that she was to be Carmen’s obedient wife as Robin was Zimmer’s. But while Carmen thought his family was helping him raise his wife right, Zimmer was working behind the scenes as well.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean Zimmer was working on Debbie playing a loving and dedicated ‘daddy’ so she would love HIM as one and more. She supposedly loved him more and with an obsession, but was told to stay and love Carmen, becoming addicted to alien come. When Carmen rebelled and was with the PADD, where do you think she went for that?”

“Zimmer” I said, eyes wide the others nodded however I was calm: I knew this and it didn’t surprise or shock me like them, showing just how much I was different to them now. The two nodded solemnly and the boy went on “when Carmen remembered how he had manipulated his wife and love, how even though he had been raised to ‘share’ so to speak he had claimed Debbie as his own and only his own yet he had ‘escaped’ the PADD and come home to find them going at it like-to use Carmen’s words-fucking like true sex addicts this truly pissed him off. When Carmen had confronted them both he had got the same reaction, practiced now we know.

“What?” mother asked curiously and the boy went on for his father again “both seemed to find his anger amusing. Zimmer said ‘I can not help it if your sister wishes for the pleasure I give her. You know I would never refuse you both anything within my power.” Debbie laughed and told him he was her precious ‘big brother’, she loved him, but what had happened was only fun, only the two of them relieving worry and stress, trying something new but her heart, soul, as well as life and body was still his.

But it seemed she was lying for when Zimmer revealed his treachery to them, Debbie apparently chose her ‘father’ and favourite sex partner over the one she was suppose to love. When Carmen saw what they were doing and remembering how he had turned the woman he loved against him he fully realized the extent of his fathers evil and he made his decision.
In that bare second he rejected his heritage and all he was taught to become and became an true Idar disciple and PADD.”

“What did he do?”

“He was furious, hurt and defiant at the same time and did what any child would do in that situation, especially someone raised and taught to take what they want when they want, he lashed out.”

“How exactly?” Bonnie asked and the boy answered with a soft “He ran forward and used his weight to throw his father off his mother, tearing at him with teeth and fangs and claws.” To which the man added “Zimmer had suspected it would come t as much-even though he had wanted to win-but what he was yelling while he was attacking him was enough to, as you humans would say, piss him off-so he lashed back.”

“What was he yelling?” Bonnie asked curiously and the boy answered again “I denounce you, you are not my father HE is.”

“He was talking about Tommas wasn’t he” I said and the boy nodded in answer “he had renounced his roots and pronounced himself PADD for all time.”

“That would have pissed Zimmer off” I said knowingly “all that hard work manipulating him while he raised him and Carmen rejects him and Robin for Tommas.”

“Zimmer still had no idea who or what Tommas is and was, it was a secret among the PADD. Even having Tommas numerous times in the past right in front of him he still hadn’t sensed it-their kinship. He thought his son had rejected him for an human-albeit an unusual one-but still a human.” I frowned “Why hadn’t he realized yet? Surely he looked...”

“No, one of the spells Tommas had learnt from his books was an disguise, it made him appear and even feel human, gave him control over his dark side and gave him what he was missing in terms of an conscious and sense of reason and all those things he was missing. Consequently it had become like an addiction, he stayed in that form and refused to go back to his true one. So any who saw him after his learning this spell would think he was human.” The boy spoke again “except for his eyes, he has really old eyes.”

“There is that” his father agreed, “the PADD knew from the moment they met him he wasn’t exactly human, but didn’t know exactly what he was.”

“They didn’t try and force it out of him though, they knew he’d tell them when he is ready. They had many suspicions over the years from he was a sorcerer to a genetically enhanced human, Rick knew part of it after he became an Idar, he sensed his age and his power, but he never truly knew the full of it.”

“What happened when Carmen attacked his father?”

“Zimmer stabbed him in the outer legs and as Carmen tried to pull away the blades were drawn down, cutting open his flesh from his hips to halfway between knees and ankles, blood gushing from his legs as he was thrown off his father.” We were all horrified by this “his own son!”

“If he couldn’t have Carmen, no one could,” the man said simply “like Robin he was property, not family.”

“It was that situation that revealed a fact about Carmen” The boy spoke out. “What’s that?” we asked curiously. “As an Idar even part those wounds should have healed within minutes, As a Shanard those wounds SHOULD of healed instantly, yet they remained open and gushing.”

“Why?”

“Apparently being half human and half alien PLUS part Idar had weakened the Shanard in him. Essentially he was now half alien\human, half Idar with the essence of a Shanard.”

“So he wasn’t like Sooca and his family?”

“No, not completely, only his essence-as in his blood and life force was magical but his body was still that of a half-Idar and vulnerable.”

“So it didn’t work, he could still die?” He nodded solemnly “If he reached the other Shanards in time a spell would save and heal him, he could work his own magic and is immune to disease, sickness and age and his fathers serum and his own blood-hunger.” The other red head spoke out “he had spells he should have used like a telekinetic-or TK shield, basic healing or even TK healing which Tommas has, but he was just an amateur and had yet to be taught to use such a thing. Sooca hadn’t had a chance yet to be taught to use such a thing. Sooca hadn’t had a chance yet with all that was going on with his mother and father and PADDD and Idars to be taught yet.”

“What happened to him? Did he die and become full or something else-or what?”
“I think we should show them, father” the boy spoke softly “show them who loved Carmen enough to save his life.”

“You are right, my child” the man nodded and something occurred to me “it was Tommas, wasn’t it. He was the one who came to rescue him and save his life.” The boy looked at me critically “how do you know?”

“They developed a close relationship, Tommas called Carmen the son he always wanted but never risked having. If he was me would have not risked his rescue to anyone else but gone myself.”

“Especially since he’s been alone so long” Bonnie pointed out “he’d be powerfully protective of who he has.” When the boy nodded Robert asked, “what do you mean show us what happened?”

“By spell we can show you what happened then. It will be like watching a movie, interested?” When we all nodded the two started to chant a low powerful rhythm. As they did a light started between them and soon formed into what looked like an LCD TV screen floating in front of us, a picture appearing on it, the chanting stopping so we could get a good look at the situation.
