Chapter 20

I start walking towards the noise. It’s coming out from under the wall that had fallen. I see a lead rope, and I figure it must be a horse. I then yell, “Steph come quick and help me out would ya!”
She starts running towards me.
Once she got there, she helped me lift the wall up. I look down.
It’s Shah.
I start crying, and I fall to my knees and hug him. He whines again, and tries to get up. I move, and he gets up. I notice a big cut on his right and on all his legs. There’s also one on his neck.
We lead him out of the barn, to where we are burring people. Steph goes back and buries some more. I take out the first aid kit and do whatever I can to stop the bleeding. I take some ointments and rub them on his cuts. He flinches. I then rap them up in all the bandages I have. I then feel so happy that I found something that was in my past that I start crying again. I hug Shah so tight, and he puts his head over my shoulder.
“I’ll be right back. I’m gonna go see what I can salvage in the barn.” I turn and me and Shah, go back to the barn.
I look around and I find some brushes. A Saddle, some blankets, a bridle, and even some horse feed. I also found a harness. I took it all back to Steph.
Steph is now done burring people, and we hook Shah to the cart. We put the other stuff in the cart, get onto the cart, and Shah pulls us back into town.
We stop at the police station, to see if Mark is there. Steph and I get off the cart, and Shah waits patiently for us to return.
I walk to the station, and look around. I see a couple of officers. Some of them I recognize as working with Mark. I walk up to them to take them outside. Steph helps me pull them out. When we get to the last guy, he talks, barely.
“Hey............. are......... you.......................Mark’s........sister?”
We jump. “Yes I am.” I reply.
“He.......is..................” He dies.
I look at Steph. “What did he mean?”
“I don’t know, but lets get this guy out of here.” We then take him out, and put him on the cart. We get on the cart, and we head to the next street.

There are a lot more bodies here. Steph and I start putting them on the cart. There is a building that is half standing up a few houses away.
We are still putting bodies up on the cart when I hear something. Someone was moving around. Then I see someone walking around behind the building. The guy has a police uniform on, and he looks perfectly fine. I point him out to Steph, and Steph yells, “Hey you! Can you give us a hand with this?”
I’m putting a man on the cart, so I don’t see the guy turn around, but I hear him and I freeze. “Sure, I’ll help. I didn’t even hear yall come.” Comes over and pets Shah. “Oh Shah. You’re alive.”
‘It can’t be’ I think to myself ‘He sounds like Mark’s best friend.’
I move around from the back of the cart. “Steph, come on, what are you doing just standing there?” I look over. Steph then comes and helps me get another guy.

“I can’t help it, but you look really familiar.” The guy says to me. He has come over to help us.
“So do you.” I reply.
We put the next person in the cart. I have dirt and soot all over me. I feel so dirty. I look up at the guy, and really look at him. I did recognize him. He has the same color hair, the same color eyes, then I find what I am looking for. His name tag. It reads Officer James.
I look at his face. Tears come to my eyes. “Johnson.” I run up to him and give him a huge hug, crying into his shoulder. He is so confused. I pull away alittle bit and look into his eyes. He doesn’t recognize me. “Johnson! Johnson! It’s me Fae!”
“Fae?” He takes a minute to look at me, “Oh my god, Fae.” He gives me an even bigger hug. He’s now crying. We are both crying.
We sit like that for a little while. Eventually we come apart, cause we still have to get these bodies burried. “Where’s my brother?” I say while putting more bodies on the cart.
“I was in Austin when the bomb went off. I don’t know where your brother is.”
“Wow, it’s great to see you alive!”
“You too!”
“Yall, we need to finish getting these bodies on the cart and bury them. It’s getting kinda dark. And Shah needs to rest.” Steph says, while walking to another body.
“Good idea.” We all finish putting bodies on the cart and take them to where we buried the others.

“Come on and help me Fae!” Steph yells from where we set up camp. We finished burring the bodies, and Johnson went to go get some bedding of his own. He will be back soon. Steph is getting our bedding ready.
“You know I can’t right now. I’m taking care of Shah, and I’m gonna go find some fire wood.” I’m checking Shah’s wounds. They seem to be getting better. I’m glad. Shah then lays down and I go get some fire wood and some rocks. They both aren’t hard to find around here.
I’m looking around and I find some really nice sized pieces of wood, and some rocks to go around the fire so it won’t spread.
I go back, and take some waterproof matches out of my bag, and start the fire.
“Do you want pasta or a Nature Valley Granola Bar, Oats ‘n Honey flavor?” Steph asks.
“Well, since we don’t have water or any thing to cook in, I think the granola bar will do.”
“Good idea” She throws me the granola bar, and we eat in silence.
“What do you think the guys are doing?” Steph asks.
“That’s a good question.”

Back At Camp

“Check!” Stephen yells.
“Oh no you don’t!” Adam and Stephen are playing chess. Stephen is winning. They’ve been playing game after game all day long. Seth and Robin are on their beds.
“I think he’s got ya man.” Seth says, walking up to them.
“Ya he’s right. Your beat dude.” Robin agrees.
“No, yall are wrong!” Adam makes a move.
“Check mate!” Stephen yells. “I win! I win!”
“No fair! They distracted me!”

“Don’t be a sore loser.”
Adam and Stephen go to their beds. Adam is clearly pissed. He can’t seem to beat Stephen. He looks over at Fae’s bed. “I wonder what the girls are doing now.”
“That’s a good question.” Stephen says while eating some gummy bears.
Just then the door opens and a man peaks his head inside.
“Can we help you?” Seth asks.
“I’m looking for someone.” He says.
“Who are you looking for?” Adam asks, wondering who this is. He has never seen him before.
“I’m looking for someone named Fae. Have you seen her? I heard she stays in this bunk.”
Everyone was silent.
“What’s wrong?” He guy was very confused.
“Why don’t you come in.” Stephen gets up and closes the door behind the man.
“And what’s your name?” Robin asks while giving the man a chair to sit in.
The man sits and says, “My name is Mark Smith.”
“And why are you looking for Fae?”
“I’m her brother.”
