"I can't believe he made us go to school today." Stephan said annoyed.
"He thinks we'll be safer in a large group of people." Phillip told him. He had slowly been able to talk to Stephan without yelling at him.
"Daniel didn't go today either. He made Faye stay home and he's watching over her." Phillip was silent and counted to five in his head.
"She's been through a lot." Phillip said.
"Besides, it's two days until the full moon. It's dangerous being here."
"Mr. Wilson, Mr. Clark, I'm sure your conversation is interesting but save it until after class." Their chemistry teacher told them.
"Sorry, Ms. Jenkins." They said together. She returned to teaching.
"I know that but it's better here than at home. Do you really think that someone would attack us here? It would be too risky." Phillip said.
"That doesn't mean they won't. They've been taking more chances. Who ever it is took six of Jaicyn's vampires. Six of them. That's a big move."
"I am not going to tell you two again. One more time and you're going to the office." Both of them nodded.
"I'm more concerned about Randi. We need to find a way to get her out of jail." Phillip told him.
"Maybe Edward got to her and is hiding her while he's sleeping." Stephan suggested.
"I hope so, staying away from him doesn't seem to help her any."
"That's enough! Take your things and go to the office, now." Ms. Jenkins ordered. They collected their things and left the room gladly. They both hated chemistry. They began to walk down the stairs.
"You think she'd learn. We'll never stop talking." Stephan said smugly.
"I know, I've never liked her anyway." Phillip replied.
"Really? I always thought she was a little on the schmexy side." Stephan grinned.
"Schmexy? There is no way. Mrs. Levi the history teacher is schmexy by far. A definite eleven." Phillip told him.
"Alright, we can settle this. First one to the end of the hallway while running human style wins the debate on who is the more schmexy one."
"Deal." Phillip said smiling from where they were. The hallway was probably almost a quarter of a mile. It would be a nice race if they didn't get caught.
"When the second hand gets on the six, we run." Stephan said excitedly. When it reached the six they shot off like bullets. Even human running they could move fast. They sprinted as though their lives depended on it. Phillip was the first to go through the double doors at the end of the hall.
"Face it, you'll never beat me at human running." Phillip said smirking.
"Yeah, I know." Stephan said defeated. He sniffed the air. "Cooks are making something good." he told Phillip. Usually school lunches were horrible, but here they weren't that bad.
"Do you-" something slammed into Phillip, throwing him through the glass wall of the cafeteria. Students eating lunch screamed and backed away from the wall.
"Phillip!" Stephan yelled. He started for the cafeteria but coming into the school was a group of were-wolves. "Oh great."
Twenty minutes later, Randi and Lucas pulled into the parking lot of the school. Almost every other police officer's car was also in the parking lot. All units had been called in to assist the school lock down. A group of men were refusing to let any remaining students leave until two of them were found and given to them. Several students had been injured but nothing too bad.
"Lucas, I need to get inside. I have to find Stephan and Phillip. They're one the others want, I know it."
"I can't allow you to go in there."
"Find a way." She said coldly. Randi opened the door and got out. Lucas followed and made her stay with him. He made his way towards the leading officer on the scene.
"What exactly is going on Officer Carrey?" Lucas asked.
"A group of men are holding the kids in the auditorium at the north end of the building. We have a perimeter set up around the school waiting to go in.." that's as much as Randi heard before she took off running towards the school. "Stop her! Somebody stop her!" Carrey yelled.
"Miranda!" Lucas shouted running after her. Another officer grabbed him and prevented him from going any farther.
Randi threw open the glass door and halted as soon as she cleared them. She remained perfectly still. The lobby was empty and absent of any sound. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she fought to listen. She had the entire school to try and not get caught and find two missing guys. This was going to be fun.
She walked farther into the lobby. The cafeteria was in front of her with two sets of stairs; one to the left and one to the right. The hallway was also to her left and there was one man standing in it. Luckily his back was to her and she headed for the stairs on her left. It would be harder for him to see her if she went for them.
"Phillip, Stephan," she whispered as she walked down the upstairs hallway. They could be anywhere. The school seemed eerie without any people in it. She walked slowly trying to avoid making any noise. That's when she heard it. A faint whimpering. It sounded like a girl but she really couldn't tell. Randi followed the sound to the library. Rows of bookshelves took up almost all of the space in the room.
"Hello?" she asked cautiously. A growl came from her right. A girl screamed. Randi headed for her. A jaguar was standing between Randi and the girl on the floor. Randi froze and stared at it. It was dark but not black. She could have sworn it was dark purple. It's eyes were a bright green.
"Help me," the girl pleaded. The animal turned to look at her then back to Randi.
"I will. Just stay calm." The girl nodded rapidly. Randi made a mental note that saving the prom queen would entitle her to a serious favor. The jaguar stalked towards Randi. She started backing up away from it. Her foot caught the edge of a bookshelf and she went down.
"Randi!" the queen shouted. She had a moment to wonder how she knew Randi's name, and why an animal was in the school before the jaguar put it's face in hers. Randi stopped breathing, stopped moving. She closed her eyes waiting for it to attack her. Instead, it put it's front paws on her legs and licked her forehead. Randi's eyes shot open. What the hell? What was this thing doing? It moved off her and stepped out of the way. It nodded it's head at her and looked to the queen.
Randi stood up slowly and slowly walked over to her. Why was it letting her do this? "Come on, Kairi." Randi said. Kairi stood up, almost in tears and kept her eyes locked on the animal. Randi pulled on her arm and sprinted out of the library.
"What's going on?" Kairi asked.
"Men are holding some of the students hostage. I'm going to try and help them and find my friends. You need to find a way out of here."
"No. I'm not going by myself. I'm staying with you." Kairi insisted. That was the last either of them remembered. Something hard slammed into their heads and they collapsed to the ground.
"Wake up," the voice said. It sounded detached, as if it didn't belong to a body. Nothing seemed real. The world swam in a sea of darkness. "I said wake up!" the voice shouted. A stinging pain erupted on her cheek.
"Leave her alone!"
"Stop it!" more voice, all of them shouting. The room started to brighten a little. She could make out outlines of people. At least thirty people were sitting in chairs in front of her. They looked alot lower then she was. What?
Randi blinked her eyes so they could adjust to the light of the room. She was on the stage in the auditorium. Her hands were tied above her head. The rope was connected to the rafters making up the ceiling. Her feet were barely touching the floor. Kairi was tied to a chair near her. A man was standing to her left. His hair was dark and short, his eyes green.
"It's so nice that you could finally join us." he said smugly. "I've needed to ask you questions but you have been a little on the sleepy side."
"What do you want?" Randi asked through clenched teeth.
"My, my, ladies and gentlemen she can speak!" he said to the students in the chairs. He grabbed her chin in his hand and squeezed. "Do not speak unless I have spoken a question directly to you." he let her go and she swayed in the ropes. "What I want is to know where your friends are, the animals Stephan and Phillip. I know you've seen one. I can smell him on you." he leaned into her and breathed along her neck, tracing her flesh with his lips. Randi pulled away from him.
"Don't touch me you pig." He slapped her across the face.
"Don't speak! Do you have a listening problem, Randi? Honestly, do you want me to hurt you?"
"Do it." She said staring him down. Her gaze was hard and unflinching. This time he punched her. Randi tasted blood in her mouth but there was hardly any pain.
"Don't hurt her!" a guy shouted from the middle of the students.
"It's a little late for that." he turned back to Randi. "If she doesn't cooperate with me then more things will happen to her. All I want to know is where they are. I need them to tell me where their leader is. I must clean up the mess that someone has made. But we won't get into that now. So to make this easier on all of us, where are they?"
"I don't know." Randi said.
"Don't lie to me, coffin bait. Where is the one you were just with? The pretty purple one. I know he's the only one who's changed to the animal he is." Randi's mind reeled. She understood now why the glowing green eyes were familiar. It had Stephan. "Ahhh. There it is. Hidden in your mind. You know of what I speak. Where is he?"
"If you free them all, I'll tell you." He slammed his fist into her stomach.
"You do not make demands. Either tell me where they are, or I'll start killing them in front of you." Randi remained silent. "Have it your way." He walked to Kairi and twisted her chair around to face Randi. He pulled out a blade and held it to Kairi's throat.
"Randi, do what he says. Please!" Kairi pleaded.
"Tick, tock, what'll it be? Live or die? Her life is in your hands."
"Randi, please." Kairi started to cry.
"Time is running out for her." he pushed the blade into her throat.
"Randi!"
"Stop! I'll tell you." Randi said defeated. She let her head hang down.
"That's my girl." he said grinning. He pulled the knife away from Kairi. He moved close to Randi, his body touching hers. "Where are they, Randi?" he whispered into her ear.
"Room 105, on this floor." she whispered back.
"We're on it, Tyler." A man at the end of the stage said. Tyler nodded.
"Get her down. I want a table out here, now." Tyler ordered. A few minutes later a different came back carrying two school desks. He placed them on the stage side by side. Then he smacked Randi, dazing her. He loosened the rop and carried her to the desks and tied her to them. Kairi was moved from the chair to the ropes that had held Randi.
Tyler moved next to Randi and ripped her shirt open, surprisingly not ripping off buttons. "Leave her alone!" Kairi yelled. The other students were not happy. Some tried to get to the stage but their captors reverted to doing anything to keep them from moving.
"I know that you are friends with a number of shifters. And the simple fact you are coffin bait to Edward just despises me to no end. You will die by the end of this. You have my word on that." Tyler spat at her. His words were like bits of fire stinging her flesh. He slid his hands up her legs and tore the front of her jeans open. A growl came from the back of the stage. Stephan stepped out of the shadows.
"No, don't," Randi tried to yell but Tyler clamped a hand on her mouth. She struggled under him using all her strength to break to free. Stephan dug his claws into the floor ready to pounce.
"Come here kitty, kitty, kitty." Tyler whispered, his eyes locked on Randi. He didn't have to look to know where Stephan was at. Stephan ran forward at him. Tyler waited until the last second and pulled a gun out from the small of his back. He half turned towards Stephan and pulled the trigger. A hole was ripped into his stomach and he fell to the ground. Tyler moved away from Randi and moved to the injured on the floor.
"Stephan!" she screamed. Randi was pissed, angry and scared out of her mind. She had to get to Stephan and help him.
On the floor, Stephan began to change back to a human. The fur receded on his body and his bones started to snap, reforming its natural shape. It took only moments, but it was a mesmerizing few moments. Tyler looked down at him.
"Bet you didn't think I could get you to come out. But I did." Tyler said. Stephan gasped on the floor. He couldn't breathe, couldn't move. His body began to burn from the wound and spread outwards through him. He hadn't though that he was going to be shot with a silver bullet.
Randi jerked on the ropes hard. One holding her arm snapped. She was stunned a moment. How could she possibly do that? She didn't think that hard about it. She yanked her other arm. The rope broke. She did the same to her legs.
"I'm sorry that you won't get to see the demise of this beautiful girl, but oh well." Tyler said. He aimed the gun at Stephan's head. Randi jumped on his back and smacked his arm away. The gun fired inches from Stephan's head. Randi slammed her arm into Tyler's as hard as she could, knocking the gun to the floor. Tyler reached around and threw her to the ground.
The rest of the students revolted. They took these precious moments and turned on their captors, not caring what they were. Kairi tried pulling herself free from the ropes but they wouldn't budge around her wrists.
"Randi! Get up!" she shouted. Randi started to move but Tyler kicked her down.
"No, you're not going anywhere. Those others might. But you're not. I still need you." Tyler told her. He bent down to grab a hold of her when his scream filled the auditorium. Randi scrambled back to see Stephan on his stomach. His hand had shifted into claws and was piercing Tyler's leg. Tyler jerked his leg free and kicked Stephan in the face. He flew to the other side of the stage. Randi moved for the gun that was laying on the floor. She aimed it at his face and fired.
The bullet caught him in the forehead. Tyler hit the floor, blood gushing from his head. Randi let the gun fall to the ground. She moved to Kairi, grabbed the ropes and pulled them from the rafters. She didn't care how she could do it anymore. Kairi quickly undid them from her wrists.
"Stephan," Randi said kneeling down beside him, "I'm so sorry." Tears began to form in her eyes.
"I'll... be fine... I ... promise." he said breathlessly.
"Where's Phillip?" she asked. Kairi knelt at down with Randi.
"Unconscious...woods shop." She wiped at her eyes and took his hand.
"I'll be back." She gently gave his hand to Kairi. "Do not leave him. Not for anything. Kairi nodded. Randi picked the gun up and handed it to her. "Just in case." When she turned around she almost screamed. Not only were all the men gone, so was Tyler. All that was left was a pool of blood where he had been. Almost all of the students had been ripped apart limb by limb. She could tell some had made it, but not many. It was too hard to tell. There was so much blood, so many body parts.
"Randi, what is it?" Kairi asked.
"Don't turn around. Just don't." she began her slow walk out of the auditorium in search for Phillip.
