(((tran\'s pov)))

This was all to much. I didn\'t know what to do about it. I knew that Elise and I had to go with them. I\'d known that since the moment I had seen the two. Elise...Elise wasn\'t the same as me. He never had been. I know he trusted me more then anything too. That made this even harder. When you had someone\'s trust, someone who had been hurt so many times before by trusting people, it made you feel all the worse when you had to go against it.

\"Elise?\" I asked as I walked up behind him where he sat on a bench. It was the same bench where I had first met him. Back when he had first came to this town. \"Are you feeling better now Elise?\"

\"I\'m fine.\" he answered softly. I slid next to him and we sat there in silence for a while. \"They want us to leave here don\'t they? To go with them somewhere even they don\'t know.\" I nodded softly. \"And you think we should go?\"

I looked at him but Elise was staring at the sidewalk in front of him. \"I think we need to Elise. Even I don\'t have all the answers and I could be wrong about everything I think. Wouldn\'t it be nice to finally find out why we are what we are? Don\'t you want to know?\"

\"No.\" Elise snapped at me. \"I don\'t honestly care. Tran if we leave here everything will change. I like living here, being with you, and for the first time I feel like I can be normal. Like I can be myself for the first time since my parents died.\" he looked away again. \"I don\'t want to have that taken away Tran.\"

\"Elise...\" I said comfortingly. \"Just because we leave, just because we go somewhere else, that doesn\'t mean that that feeling has to go away. You\'ll still be with me Elise. I swear to it. I\'m not going to leave you.\"

He looked at me again. \"So if I said I didn\'t want to go with them, if I wanted to stay here, what would you do? You\'d give up your chance to learn and stay with me?\" he looked away. \"No, you wouldn\'t. You\'d leave with them is what you would do. I know you Tran, you can\'t pass this up.\"

I slid closed to him and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. \"Can I tell you something Elise?\" I felt him nod. \"I met you two years after the death of my parents. That is four years that I have known you. I hated you,\" I felt his body go into shock. \"For the longest time I hated you. I was determined to wrap myself in my own darkness and never let anyone else in...never let anyone see me.\" I looked down at him and my eyes fell into his red ones. \"I thought I had succeeded once. When you stopped showing up. However, I began to miss you, and I hated myself for it. When I found you...after what your father had done...and held you...I realized I wanted to wrap you in darkness with me and protect you. To keep you from the rest of the world and protect you from everything.

\"I can\'t do that anymore though Elise.\" I admitted. \"You\'re sixteen now, you have to figure things out on your own. I can\'t protect you forever and I wont say that I can because if you get hurt...it will be all my fault. I just want you to know, that no matter how far away I get from you, no matter if I am sitting here with you or across the ocean, I\'m with you. You can always come to me Elise, you know that, but sometimes...sometimes I wont be able to give you what you need.\"

Elise just stared at me a moment. Unmoving. \"Tran...\" he threw his arms around me and hugged me tightly. \"I\'ve seen other people...\" he whispered into my shoulder. \"Seen the others who have not gone near you because of how it feels.\" I closed my eyes. \"That first time you took me into the dark...after my father had beat me...I felt so safe. I wasn\'t afraid or cold. I never wanted to leave that place. I wanted to stay with you forever in darkness.\" his grip tightened. \"I do love you Tran...\"

My heart clamped and I slid my arms around Elise\'s small form. His body was warm. The fire that was burning inside him leaked from his skin. He always got warm in times like this. I don\'t know from what, but he always did. \"I know Elise. I know.\" I couldn\'t say it back. I\'d bever been able to say it to anyone. I think those words had escaped my lips once and that had been to my dead father\'s corps. \"Are you going to come with me Elise? Or are you going to stay here?\"

He backed away and looked up at me. I looked down at him and he nodded softly. \"I\'ll come with you Tran.\"

\"Hey.\" Elise and I looked over to see Brian and Christopher standing there. \"Are you ready to leave?\" Brian asked. \"There are people looking for us after all. We don\'t know how long it will take them to get to this town so we better leave now.\"

\"We need to get supplies though.\" Elise said as we stood. \"We can\'t just leave with nothing. We\'ll die of hunger or the cold.\"

A small smile graced my lips. Elise would not let us die of the cold. I knew that. He\'d give his own life to keep people warm before even thinking of himself. \"Elise is right. We should at least bring some food or something. Enough to hold us over until we reach the next town.\" I told them. \"It\'s nearly a two day walk.\"

Christopher tugged on Brian\'s sleeve and Brian looked down at him. \"They\'re coming.\"

\"We don\'t have time.\" Brian told Elise and I. \"We have to go now or we are going to get caught and if we get caught it\'s over.\"

\"Come Elise.\" I grabbed his hand and pulled him along. \"You two follow me. There is a back way out of this village that they wont know about. We can take it to the next town. It will take a little longer but it will get them off our tail.\"

\"Tran what if they get to the next town first?\" Elise asked him. \"Then what will we do?\"

I had not thought that far ahead. \"I\'ll sneak into the town, get supplies, and then we can head west first. If there is someone else like us in the town ahead then we will have to come back to get them. We would have to go back through that town anyway just to take the boat across the lake.\"

No one argued with me. Thank god. I was not in the mood to have someone argue with me. Especially not when there were people after us. I needed to think about every possible situation and that required not being distracted. I felt Elise\'s hand grasp mine as I pulled him down a steep path and into the forest.

\"Freeze.\" we all stopped dead hearing this. Seven men came out of the bushes around us, all with guns. \"Don\'t move or we\'ll fire.\" the captain said and walked towards us. \"You are all under arrest and we are taking you in.\"

Elise gripped my arm tightly and I looked around. It was noon goddamn it. That meant that there was a good chance in hell that I would find a sufficient shadow anywhere. \"Elise.\" I whispered as they came closer. \"It\'s up to you Elise.\"

\"I can\'t.\" Elise said softly. \"I can\'t Tran.\"

\"Shut up!\" the captain said. \"Stop your plotting or we will fire.\" one of the men grabbed my arm and another grabbed Elise. His hands held tightly onto me but the men were far stronger. \"If you come quietly no one has to get hurt.\"

\"Elise don\'t struggle.\" I ordered. \"Just do what they say alright?\" he wasn\'t listening to me. Elise liked to me touched about as much as I liked to hear people give monologs...not all that much.

\"Ah!\" the men yelled and let go of Elise like he was a hot iron. \"The kid is fucking burning.\"

I pulled myself from the men and walked over to Elise. I tried to set my hands on his shoulders but it was true, Elise was burning. \"Elise?\" I tried to catch his eyes with mine but he wasn\'t looking. \"Listen to me damn it!\" he jumped and looked up at me. \"There you go.\" I smiled softly. \"You okay now?\" he nodded softly. \"Good.\" I turned to the men. \"Don\'t touch him!\"

The captain clenched his fists. \"Get them!\"

I closed my eyes a moment before opening them and looking at the men. They froze where they stood and I smirked sadistically. \"Come and get me.\" A gun fired and I closed my eyes awaiting the impact. It never happened. I opened my eyes to see a shadow in front of me. The shadown shrunk down by my feet again and I looked back at the men. \"Wanna give it a second go?\"

\"Christopher!\" someone screamed from behind us and we looked back to see an older woman and some guy my age standing there. \"What do you think you are doing?\" she screamed at him. \"Why on Earth did you run away? You have had me frightened.\"

\"Hey.\" I said to them and they turned to me. \"If we are going to get out of this you all need to come here a moment.\" Brian, Elise, and Chistopher walked over to me. \"This is going to feel weird. Becoming your own shadown can be strange.\"

I closed my eyes and felt eveything go black. It was strange. You couldn\'t open your eyes, couldn\'t see anything. You were simply a shadow and that was all. When we surfaced again everyone fell over. I caught Elise and he fell ontop of me. I helped him sit up, with my arm protectively around him.

\"What in the hell?\" Brian asked sitting up. \"That was freaky.\" he looked over at Christopher, who was sitting up at his side. \"You okay Christopher?\" the boy nodded softly, his hand slipping over to hold onto Brian\'s sleeve again. \"That\'s good.\"

\"Where are we?\" Elise asked at my side. \"Did we get far enough away Tran?\"

I looked around for a moment. I didn\'t know this part of the forest, which meant we had to be far enough away. \"I think so. We will have to walk around for a little while before we can tell.\"

\"What way do we go?\" Christopher asked.

\"That...\" I muttered and sighed. \"That I don\'t know. We could just end up back in town.\"

Elise set his hand on the soil and closed his eyes. I stood and backed away from him. Brian and Christopher walked over to me and we stood there watching. A cirlce of flame three feet in diameter began to burn around Elise at least three inches high. A wind began to blow that neither I nor the other two could feel because it came from under Elise. The grass within the circle, under Elise, turned black. Elise opened his eyes and stared at the ground. He whispered something that I couldn\'t hear, he had some how found a way to whisper so I couldn\'t hear him, and a strip of fire shot from the circle and went to the right of Elise. The fire vanished leaving the black circle and line.

\"Home is that way.\" Elise muttered as he stood, dusting himselg off. \"So if we go the other way then we will be safe from danger.\" he hugged himself and tried to warm up his arms. I knew what it meant. When I was wrapped in darkness I could hear things more. That meant that when Elise was burning he could feel them more. \"Are we going to go?\"

\"Yeah, lets go.\" I muttered and we began to walk. Brian and Christopher were behind us and, giving it a chance, I decided to attempt to talk to Elise. \"Are you okay?\"

\"Fine.\" He said defiantly. \"Just a little cold.\"

Every time someone else was around he got like this. Shut himself off and wouldn\'t talk about it. I compared it to being molested. After all, he was being touched and he didn\'t want to be. He never told me where he was touched...just that he was, which worried me. \"Did they hurt you Elise?\"

He knew I was serious. There was a certain way I said his name that showed him if I was serious or not. \"Only metally.\"

A sigh escaped my lips. \"You don\'t have to keep everything inside Elise. We\'re all here to help each other. If you can\'t trust us then you shouldn\'t have come.\"

Elise looked up at me slightly shocked. \"And you trust me? You trust them? Don\'t bullshit me Tran. Don\'t talk about trust when you don\'t trust a single soul.\"

\"So you are saying that you trust me Elise? That you trust me enough to tell me everything?\" I asked him.

He looked away from me. \"No one on this Earth trusts someone that much.\"

I guess that had been the answer I had expected. I looked up to the sky, which was partially covered in trees, and saw the sky was beginning to darken. \"We should probably find some where to sleep for the night. Before it gets to dark and we can\'t see anything.\"

\"Where are we going to stay in the middle of the forest?\" Brian asked from behind me. \"Not to mention we don\'t have anything to keep ourselves safe with.\"

\"You managed.\" Elise told him coldly. \"Why can\'t we?\"

I shot Elise a nasty look. I knew the reason he was being cold towards the two. Because they had come in and ruined his perfect little world. Like it had been that perfect anyway. I would have been surprised if Elise\'s foster-father had let him eat more then five times a week. \"We\'ll find somewhere and Elise can make a fire for us.\"

Elise stopped walking and I just continued. \"What is that some kind of punishment /dad/?\"

Turning I looked back Elise. \"No, it\'s not punishment. Do you want us all to freeze or something?\"

\"Make Christopher do it!\" Elise argued.

\"Elise does Christopher know how to do it?\" I asked him and he looked away from me. \"That is what I thought. Now, stop being such a little prick and help us find somewhere to stay.\"

I turned from him again and sighed. \'If only I didn\'t believe in fate...\' I thought to myself. Christopher yelled Elise\'s name and I turned to see that Elise had fallen to the ground. He was completely unconscious and I thanked god he was breathing. What on Earth could go wrong now?

A/N : I think my mind is faltering...lol. The moment I typed that I had a great idea for the next chapter. Take that bitch! The next chapter...may involve someone getting...beaten. *wicked smile* I wont tell you who\'s POV it will be in, that is a surprise. Enjoy the suspense.

- Again, I will ask, \"Water Writes\", what is it? You know what, if no one tells me what this is I wont write anymore! I swear it!
