The Board
Slumber
Chapter 2
The next square is a cave filled with mounds of gold and a warm steady, stinking breeze fluttering through it. As soon as we cross through I motion for Alistair to stay quiet and he instantly goes on high alert. His eyes scan constantly, in a search for the danger but I know that he'll never see the truth. He'll never see that these huge piles of gold are not really gold at all, they are far more valuable.
This square is probably one of the most dangerous in The Board because of what occupies it. That gold isn't really gold, they're the scales of a great dragon. A dragon who has every intention of ending my life, we got lucky that he's asleep.
This dragon was born wild and he should have stayed that way, he would have if nature had been allowed to take its course. There was a Rider who lost his dragon and instead of moving on he became obsessed with getting a new dragon. He kidnapped a wild and warped it with magic. He perverted a bond that should have been sacred and it broke this dragon.
The Elders agreed that the only way to help him was to kill him but we couldn't find a way to do it. A fight between dragons that size could end up destroying the planet. The Rider chose to protect himself by having the dragon swallow him, surrounding himself in draconic armour. He controls this dragon from inside and he really wants me dead.
"Stay as quiet as you can," I speak in a low pitch. "Keep your voice low, the last thing that we want to do is wake him, he will do everything he can to tear me apart. The problem is that he has managed to block all of the exits and we cannot go back the way that we came. We need to think about this, we could just wait for him to move."
Alistair stares all around him and suddenly his eyebrows shoot up, he's realized what the gold really is. There are weapons that can kill dragons bit we don't have any. Getting him to move is going to be close to impossible and yet we're stuck here until we do.
The only thing that I can think to try is manipulating his dreams.
