Return of a hero

Rain sat frozen  as  he  stared  at  the  t.v .  On the  screen  Rocket  held  on  to  the  hostage  as  he  looked  around  calmly .  He  was  giving  Gadjet  and  Kickback  an  hour  to  show  themselves ,  or  he  would  kill  the  hostage . Raine  stood  up  and  took  a  few  steps  before  he  was  stopped .  

"  Where  are  you  going ?  "  

Raine  turned  to  face  the  blonde .  "  Where  do  you  think ?  We  have  to  do  something .  "  

"  You're  right ,  but  we  need  a  clear  head  before  we  do  anything .  "  

Raine  shrugged  out  of  the  blonde's  reach .

"Like we  have  time  for  that !  We  know  what  to do . Let's  go !"

Raven  sighed . "  Think  about  it . It's a  trap . "  

Raine  nodded  sadly  as  he  calmed  down . Raven  was  right . 

"  What  do we  do ?  "  

Rocket  smirked  as  he  scanned  the  area .  No  sign  of  those  two  yet .  Absently  he  turned  to  look  at  his  hostage . The  poor  woman  was  so  scared ,  she  was  trembling .  He  went  to  her  and  knelt  down  in  front  of  her .

"  Don't  worry  sweetheart ,  you're  just  the  bait .  "  

The  woman  gave Rocket  a  wide  eyed  stare .  "  Please  don't  hurt  me .  J-just  don't  hurt  me  "

Rocket  grinned  as  he  got  up . "I have no interest  in  hurting  you .  Just  sit  tight .  "  

She didn't  look convinced  as she eyed him warily . They heard footsteps  then . Kickback  and  Gadjet  appeared .  A  wide  smile  spread  across  Rocket's  face  as  he  saw  the  pair . He  bent over and grabbed  the  woman  by  the  arm ,  she gasped  as Rocket  pushed  her toward  the two men . She stumbled  a  little  before  Gadjet  caught  her .  "Are you  okay ?  "   She nodded  shaken . 

"  Go  ahead  and  get  her out of  here  ,l have what I wanted  anyway .  "  

Kickback  watched  as  Gadjet  led  the  terrified  woman  outside .  

"  Who  are  you ?  "  

Rocket  smirked  and  moved  closer  to  the  shorter male  ,Kickback  took a step  back .  

"  I'm  Rocket .  "   Kickback  Shook his head .  

"  No ,you're  not .  "  

"  And  you  know  this  how ?  "  

"  He's -Rocket   , he died .  "  

The other man  looked  at  Kickback  with a  grin .

"Are  you  sure ? "

Gadjet  came  back  at  that moment . 

"  What  do you  want ?  "  

"  Let's  just  say  that  I'm here on behalf  of  someone  you  know .  "  

Suddenly  Rocket  rushed  forward  and  grabbed  Kickback  by his shirt  and  hurled  him  toward  Gadjet ,who was caught  by  surprise .  Both fell in a heap .Kickback  recovered  first  and charged  Rocket .  He  threw  a  punch  and  the  taller  man  dodged  it ,then  grabbed  the  hand and threw him toward a wall . Kickback  put a booted foot to the wall and jumped over Rocket . Gadjet  went forward  and  delivered  a  kick  to the imposter   ,who fell to the floor with a grunt .  Rocket  rolled  to his feet  and avoided  a punch  as he kicked  Kickback . 

"  I thought  you  guy's  were good .I'm falling asleep  here ."

Kickback  growled  and ran at the imposter . He managed  to  block  a kick  aimed for  his face and took a  hold of the others  booted foot and yanked . The taller  man  lost his balance  and  fell ,but not before  he  twisted  his body  around and swept  the shorter  male off his feet . Gadjet  jumped  on a rolling chair  and used the momentum  to roll toward them  ,then he jumped  and tackled  Rocket  in mid-air ,. Caught  by surprise   ,Rocket  looked at Gadjet  with wide eyes before  he  reversed  their positions  and flipped  up on to his feet .

"Really , if that's  all  your  best  , then you're  pathetic ,  worthless .  "  

He reached into his front pocket  and threw  something  at them . Both flinched  as the object  clattered  on the floor . Suddenly  a bright  light filled the area . Gadjet  and Kickback  shielded  their eyes  with their  hands .  Seconds  later  the light dimmed .  Kickback  peeked from beneath  his fingers  then let his  hand drop . He glanced around then at Gadjet . "What the hell was that ?  "  

"US  getting  our asses kicked . That's what ."

 Daniel  watched the t.v . as the reporter  talked about the events  that  happened  yesterday . He listened  intently to her as she told the viewers  about  the  incident  at the Fairfield  building . Someone  calling themselves  Rocket  had went in and demanded  the people  leave . As they were leaving   ,Rocket  took a  female  hostage  and then barricaded  himself  inside the building . Daniel  listened  as the reporter  continued  on to say that Rocket  demanded  to see Gadjet  and Kickback . They appeared  about half an  hour  later . Both went into  the  building  and then  Gadjet  came out shortly  with the hostage  and then went back in . Twenty  minutes  minutes  later  they came out empty handed . Rocket  had escaped  it seemed . Hmm ,it looked  like  Rocket  had the upper hand on these...so called heroes . Daniel  reached  for the remote and turned  off the t.v.  He grabbed the pictures  resting  beside him . He studied  them for a while  looking at the images   ,a thoughtful  frown creasing  his brow . He had a lot of work  to  do   , but he was up for the task .

The next thing  Raine  and Raven  knew , Rocket  began  terrorizing  the  city . He would  brutally  beat thieves  or just about  anybody who would  get in his way . People  were starting  to say that Rocket  should  be stopped . They didn't  want him in the city . Raine  felt his heart  sink as he would  hear people  talk about  how they wanted Rocket  gone  . His reputation  was ruined . He didn't  care about  that ,though   he cared about  finding  this imposter  and bringing  him to justice . 

He didn't  know what was going  on  and it was driving  him crazy . He and Raven  were trying  to figure  out  this Rocket was and what he had against  them .

They  started  going on regular  patrols .  One night they split up  to cover more ground . Raine  stood  perched  on  the ledge  of a building . As he looked he thought  about  being  back fighting  crime . He missed it . The excitement   , the rush   , knowing  he was doing  his part . Since he stopped  doing  this  ,Raine  noticed  that  he had become  slow . Sure he and Raven  sparred ,but it was only for fun . They used their sparring  sessions  as a way to release  stress ,for fun . Now he needed to use something  stronger  against  this imposter . 

"Hey ,shorty ."

Raine turned  to face  the  man who  was  calling himself  Rocket . 

"If it isn't ...who are you again   ?" 

The man smirked  as he walked closer to Raine   ."Oh , you remember  me .  The one who kicked  your ass  . Don't  worry  though   , by the time I'm through with you and Gadjet   , you'll  both know who I am and regret  what you did  ." 

"What exactly  did we do to you ? " 

The smirk  the man wore disappeared  and a look of hatred took its place . Without  warning  he reached  behind  his back and took a staff out that was resting  on his back . Raine  managed to avoid  being  hit with it ,thanks  to his reflexes .  Rocket  twirled  the staff as he moved near the shorter  male . 

"I'm gonna  make sure this whole stinking  city hates you by the time I'm done with you two nobodys ." 

Rocket  swung  his staff  towards  Raine   , who bent out  of  its way . This was seriously  starting  to  tick him off . He crouched  low and swept out the man's legs from under him . Rocket  jumped  to his feet . He chuckled  as he walked toward  Raine   . 

"I'm gonna enjoy  kicking  your ass ,hero !" 

He grabbed his staff and twirled  it above  his head before  swinging  it at the shorter  male . Raine  dodged  it as it kept coming at him . Tired of running ,  Raine  flipped  and used one foot to knock  the staff out of the others hands , and then used his other foot to kick Rocket  on the chest . Raine   stood  up  and grabbed the staff and threw it out of the others reach .

"Listen ,  I don't  know  what  your problem  is , but I'm not it  !" 

Rocket  glared at the smaller  male   , hate glittering  in those  eyes . 

"You don't  get it . When I'm done  with  you , heh , well I'm just gonna wipe the floor with you . You and that pathetic  excuse  for a hero ." 

He jumped to his feet and in one motion reached into his pocket and threw  something  at him . Raine  flipped  out  of  the  way .  What looked like a metal ball went flying  back  towards  Rocket   as he swung his arm back . He caught  it and threw it back at the  shorter  male .  Taken by surprise  Raine  watched  as the the metal sphere  came close to him . He moved out of the way , but suddenly  felt  a  pain on his side . He looked  at Rocket  and realized  too late that the taller man  had two metal balls on a  rope . Rocket  slung his arm out and the sphere  came hurtling  at him . He looked  on frozen  on the spot as the sphere  came closer .  Just then Gadjet  appeared  in  front  of  him .  He held the staff that he had thrown earlier .  The blonde  had the rope wrapped  around  the wooden stick . Gadjet  yanked  it against  himself ,  Rocket  stumbled  before  he yanked back . As both played tug-of-war ,Raine  watched  for a moment  before  he ran at Rocket  and spun around  to kick  him . The imposter  went down with a grunt . Just as he was about  to get up  ,Raine   was on top of him . He punched  the man . He drew his ar back to punch him again ,  but the  man slammed his knee  into  the others back . Raine  cried  out  as he rooted to the side .

Rocket  then grabbed  the smaller  male  by the throat . Raine  gasped  as his air supply  was cut off  . He struggled  to pry the fingers from his throat .  Suddenly  Rocket  grunted as he crumbled  to the floor taking Raine  with  him .  He took a couple  of wheezing  breaths as Gadjet  pinned Rocket   to the floor  with the staff .

"Don't  make  me  hurt you ." 

Rocket  smirked  as he held up his hands . 

"I wouldn't  worry  about  me  if we're you ."

Then in one fluid motion  ,Rocket  turned  and grabbed  Raine  by his foot . Gadjet  Instinctively  went to catch  the shorter  male .  Taking the opportunity  ,Rocket  fled into the night .

"Damn it ! I'm getting  tired  of this !" 

Gadjet  sighed  as  he  watched  Raine  slide off his hood .

"We're  gonna  get him ."

Raine  turned  to glare at Gadjet . "In case you haven't  noticed , that  poser has been out terrorizing  the city . Oh and don't  forget  he's kicking our asses  too!"

"You need to calm down . " 

"How can I ? Do you not understand , this imposter  could  end up  seriously  hurting  someone . We have to get him ." 

Gadjet  understood  the others  reasoning and his frustration  ,but they needed  to think with a clear  head , or things would get worse   .

"Raine ,please ,  we've have to think rationally . " 

Raine closed his eyes  and sighed . " I know  ,but I just can't stand the thought of him running  amuck  and possibly  hurting  someone really bad . " 

Gadjet moved closer  to  Raine  and wrapped  his arms around  the  other man . The shorter male  relaxed into  the blonde   . Unknown  to them , they were being  watched . Rocket  stood on the next  building  as he looked  through  a pair  of  binoculars . What he saw surprised  him .Gadjet  and Kickback  were an item . He couldn't  help the smug smile  that curved his mouth   .
