“You will remember to call me Master!” Halden shouted, kicking the boy right in the ribs.
“Yes, Master. Sorry, Master” Maesha managed.
“You filthy demon! I brought you here, when you should have been run through, and you treat me with such disrespect!”
“Please Master,” he pleaded pitifully.
He knew his place. Understood it. Understood that it was perfectly unfair. He was a slave. His master could beat him simply for a change in the weather. That was his lot in life. He was a demon. A dirty, disgusting demon. He should be grateful. He should be dead like all of his family.
He had learned this all before his tenth year.
The beating proceeded, and Maesha lay limp.
A small set of eyes stood watching. The eyes of a six year old boy. A boy who a lowly demon should not be playing with.
“Daddy, he isn't moving” the boy came running in, a look of alarm on his face.
“Get out of here Delmir!”
