To soothe a mind of many

Do note, I do not have English as my native tongue, so if you find any grammatical errors, please, don’t think too much of it, unless it jumps on your face, bites you, and will not let go. If that indeed happens, I shall immediately edit this story.

If you are of under 18 years old (OR 21 in some areas (I feel for you guys)) then please exit this tab, and never enter AFF ever again, until this requirement is met.

Same thing if you do not like m/m stories.

(This chapter contains no sexual parts, and perhaps neither will the next one. Just perhaps.) The next chapter may take some time, as I won’t publish it until it is long enough so that chapter four contains the “good parts” that you all are here for.

All of these characters and places belong to me. There are no connections between these characters/locations to those of any other story or of this world. Living or dead. If you somehow can twist the universe, and have big piles of proof that I somehow got an almost identical story, then I will remove this story.

PLEASE LOOKE AT THE A/N AT THE BOTTOM WHEN DONE!

Broken mind, Chapter 2: To soothe a mind of many.

Leon found himself standing outside the thick door that would open to the room where Nathaniel is.

His watch showed that the time was 3 AM. James was sleeping definitely, being exhausted after running around fixing everything until everything was perfect till tomorrow, or rather later today. Leon had even heard the snores coming from behind James door when he had snuck by it.

Deciding to skip putting on the circlet, Leon opened the door.

The room was completely black. Leon could barely see anything except for the small rectangle in front of him created by the doorway and the corridors light.

Soon the room it up, once again showing the person locked behind the glass walls.

Shivering, as he always did when he entered this room since that first meeting, Leon walked up to the glass.

Nathaniel had not been conscious for several days now. James said that that was the norm, for Nathaniel rarely came too. Over the years, the intervals came further apart, as if his strength slowly faded. If Leon did not do anything, and they had calculated that within a year or two, Nathaniel would not wake up any more.

James had told Leon that when fully awake, Nathaniel would fight against his bonds as if he was insane. With that knowledge, Leon knew that Nathaniel had barely been conscious in their last meeting.

And somehow, Leon knew that Nathaniel would be awake soon. After their last meeting, Leon had felt as if something within him had been replaced. And somehow, he now felt a connection to that boy, as if they were constantly connected to each other.

Suddenly, one of the many consoles that lined the walls started beeping. Followed by a few more, and some of the screens that belonged to said beeping equipment started showing different parts of Nathaniel’s brain lighting up.

Before Leon had the time to react to the replica suddenly on the other side of the glass, his vision started blurring. Slowly his field of vision started shrinking. The peaceful and beautiful presence that Leon had felt from Nathaniel last time was gone, replaced with anger, hatred, pain and disgust. He could see the replicas mouth contort into an evil grin, warping the beautiful face of Nathaniel. But the eyes were hidden behind that glossy helmet that had been on his face for now five years. How his hair had not grown long past the helmets edges suddenly fascinated him, in a bizarre way. It was the last thing in Leon’s mind before the world around him disappeared in a swirl of dull lights, mostly dark blue and red, along with a couple of black ones, somehow able to shine darkness. Suddenly, a lone white light shone bright enough to make the other lights disappear, and the peaceful presence from their last meeting returned.

The light faded away, to a scenery that made Leon frightened.

He was currently on a cliff, overlooking an ocean. But what made Leon frightened was that the water way down the cliff was colored a deep red. And the cliff seemed to be made out of flesh, with scars as natural imperfections, making it almost look real.

The sun high up in the sky did not either look normal. Instead of a giant white and yellow ball of fire, was an eye with barbed wire wrapped around it, and it constantly whirled around, as if frantically searching for something, but never finding it.

“Hello, Leon.” Leon heard coming from behind himself. Spinning around, he saw Nathaniel.

“WHAT IS THIS?! WHERE AM I?!” Leon shouted to Nathaniel, who instantly started shaking in pain. Soon calming down, Leon could only watch as Nathaniel tried to fight through the pain that Leon so easily caused.

“All of this is a projection of my mind. We are currently in my own mind, where it takes far less energy than for me to speak to you in the “real world” as you’d put it. And please, just think. I am able to hear your thoughts, as you very well know.” Nathaniel smiled at the last bit, a sad smile, which made Leon realize that the black helmet did not exist here in Nathaniel’s mind. Looking upon that innocent face, and knowing of the horrors that this boy had to endure, both from others, and from himself, Leon wanted to cry, but quickly refrained from thinking too much, seeing Leon wince, and his hands starting to twitch a bit in pain.

“Why have you brought me here?” Leon thought, knowing that Nathaniel would listen.

“Because the freedom of this curse can be achieved only by you… You have such knowledge about the… Human… mind. Hopefully I am still human enough for you to stop this.”

Hearing Nathaniel say that astounded Leon. If he was to help Nathaniel, he’d go against his boss, one of the most powerful persons on this planet.

“Make a new brain. One that can tolerate the constant barrage of thoughts and emotions. One that cannot feel emotions, like me, but stronger. I am not strong enough, even though I was created by the original Nathaniel so long ago, to stand against this cursed gift he had.” The last part had Leon’s attention.

“…created by the original Nathaniel…… created by the original Nathaniel…”

“I am still Nathaniel, but still not. I… am another… personality, yes, that’s the word. When Nathaniel discovered his curse, his mind shattered, and out of the shards several personalities was created. I have tried to find them in my mind, but they are so weak, and so different from “myself” that the cursed powers this body has hides them so easily in the deep crevices of this mind. I am blind when it comes to them, but I can easily notice if any of them even try to fight me with force or trickery. Come, I want to show you something.”

Suddenly, the flesh that was the earth started shuddering, and about a hundred feet away from Leon and Nathaniel, away from the cliffs, the ground started to almost boil, and giving way for something.

After a moment, a house that seemed to belong in the suburbs started to rise, long tendrils from the fleshy ground letting go as the house rose too high.

Slowly walking towards the front door, Nathaniel beckoned Leon to follow.

When they were standing just outside of the front door, Nathaniel just waved his hand in front of the door, and it opened. A faint echo of a dog’s bark was heard as the door was opened, but there was no sign of life except for the two of them.

Just to the left was a kitchen, and if you walked straight from the front door, ahead you’d enter the dining room. To the left was two stairs. One going down, and one up. The lower part of the house was right under the part that had the stair going up. It almost looked like someone had placed two thin boxes on top of each other, with a third box going along one of the edges, just between the two other boxes.

“The original Nathaniel’s mother was the architect of this house, and several others in the little town where he grew up. His mother favored eccentric buildings, and got famous for it.”

Nathaniel walked up the stair going to the highest part of the building. Highest being a loose term, for the stairs were barely four feet tall, with five steps each. To the left was a bathroom. Right ahead was two bedrooms, one slightly bigger, presumably the master bedroom. To the right was an even smaller bedroom. Nathaniel walked into the smallest bedroom, the one to the right.

One the floor was a petrified image of Nathaniel, clutching his head, tears on his cheeks, and a grimace of pain on his face. The image seemed frozen in time.

“This is the last memory before Nathaniel’s mind shattered, and I was created.” Nathaniel said. In the corner of Leon’s eye, by the window that was straight in front of the door, Leon could swear he saw a darkness, hiding behind the almost see through curtains. When he moved his head towards it, the darkness was gone.

“Do not worry. Those are just the rest of the personalities that run away from me, trying to take over this body and do whatever suites them. But they are so weak, that even you would be able to fight against them. That personality was created by what was left of the pain and suffering Nathaniel had to go through, and wants to inflict pain unto others. And yes, it was indeed on of the so called “lights” you saw earlier.”

Looking out of the window, Leon noticed that the view was not that of before, but rather indeed that of a suburbs, that he speculated the house to be in.

He saw a boy and a girl riding their bikes outside on the pavement, unknowing of what was happening inside this house. The sun stood high in the sky, seemingly making a perfect day.

“You have to leave now, or enough time will have passed for the cameras to notice that something is amiss. But please, create a… container… for this curse. It is eating away at this body, and your boss is just waiting for me to be safe to handle, or for me to die, so that a thorough autopsy can be made, so that he can recreate this curse on someone else. Please, I do not want anyone else to have to suffer, but I cannot keep this either. Please, for Nathaniel’s sake. His youth was destroyed. The least I can do is to stop anyone from getting harmed.”

Tears started to fall from Nathaniel’s face, and Leon could see one of the dark blue lights from earlier slowly moving around the room, as if drawn to Nathaniel, but still afraid of him.

Leon guessed that the sadness Nathaniel now went through either came from that light, or from someone else in the real world. Walking up to Nathaniel, Leon hugged him, and carried him over to the bed in the room, careful not to accidentally touch the original Nathaniel on the floor, still frozen with that pained expression on his beautiful face.

Propping himself up against the headboard, Leon held Nathaniel against his chest, trying to comfort the youth.

Nathaniel snuggled against Leon’s chest, as if seeking the warmth, and had had a longing for physical contact for a long time, whether or not this was literally just in his own head.

Soon, Nathaniel fell unconscious, and this nightmare world that was this beautiful youths mind started fading.

But Leon did not miss the little white light that was barely visible, being so small, hiding by the doorway, often darting away, and slowly coming back, behaving like a curious child who did not want to get caught, and being even whiter than the light that represented the youth in his embrace.

“His innocence…” was all Leon had time to think, before everything faded completely.

He lost the feelings of sitting on the bed, and having the youth sleeping on top of himself, until suddenly, he stood once again by the glass walls that contained the youth who so recently was sleeping in his arms.

Sighing to himself, Leon took on the task of shutting off everything that was still on in the room, glad that at least half the room was drenched in darkness, the lights shutting themselves off when there were no registered movements in that area.

Leaving the room, he missed the person hiding in the darkness, who had snuck in just after Leon seemed frozen by the glass wall, and who barely had time to shut of the lights and hide himself in the darkness before Leon once again moved, and started shutting everything off, seemingly unaware how much time had passed, or rather, had barely passed.

As Leon closed the door, the person hiding in the shadows started chuckling to himself, drawing out a utility knife from his inner pocket. Half of the room was bathed in light once again. The person, hiding his knife in the sleeve of his lab coat, went over to one of the consoles on the wall, and shut off all security equipment in the room.

At the same time, Leon walked past James quarter, and over to his own, not noticing that the snores from earlier was gone.

Leon soon fell asleep in his brand new bed, not knowing that anything was amiss.

Back in the Project Cerebrum room, James opened the doorway that let anyone inside the glass room.

“I don’t know why you think he is so special! You are MINE! Do you hear that! MINE!!!” James shouted at Nathaniel.

To James utter surprise, Nathaniel’s head shot up, having gained consciousness when he felt someone opening the doorway into his glass prison.

For the first time in several years, Nathaniel actually spoke out loud. “I do not deserve to be owned by someone else. NO ONE!” The voice cracking a few times because he hadn’t used his mouth in so long for speaking.

Angered, James raised the utility knife.

Before James had the time to swing the knife down, Nathaniel let one of the other personalities for the first time to take control, for just a while. While Nathaniel would not kill someone innocent, he had no qualms of letting one of the other personalities kill. Just so that the secrets the original Nathaniel held in his fractured mind would not go lost on the world.

Nathaniel’s eyes turned deep red, almost completely black. A personality of madness took over before anyone else in his body could.

Jason never had time to swing the knife halfway, before his mind was squished like a bug under a shoe. The arm holding the knife, however, still held momentum, but that was soon fixed with just a flick with his eyes. The arm was cut off from the rest of the body, and thrown around in the room, while the crazy personality started laughing manically, and soon the rest of James body was in shreds.

“The glass walls would look so much better with a tint of red!!!” The personality thought to himself, as the shreds that was left of James were rubbed against the glass, held by nothing.

The doorway was still open, but if he escaped, he knew the stronger personality would take over, so he didn’t cut himself loose. He’d just have his fun for a while.

All the while, one camera was still functioning, and it got everything on tape, even the change of Nathaniel’s eyes.

“Yes, he’ll make an excellent weapon! Hahahahaha!” thought the person who watched this as it happened, smiling, knowing that no army would be able to withstand that boy, if he could get his damned scientist to tame him. And that also reminded him that now he had to get another scientist for the Cerebrum project. Groaning a little because of the new work, he thought to himself “No pain, no gain.” And with that he started smiling once again.

Authoress note: Here’s second chapter here on AFF!

But I should warn you though. I have a very, veeeery f****ng bad habit of stopping the story after a few chapters, and disappearing from the internet for a while. I don’t really know why… But Now I want to stop this, so I am searching for a co-author/ess. It doesn’t have to be for this story only. I love writing, and getting help writing is a blessing. Just these six pages took me well over five hours, as I re-did everything about seven times. I went through them being childhood friends, to hateful enemies, but settled for this scenario. I plan on writing many chapters about this story, but with my very bad habit, I may disappear D: So PM me if you are interested at cirradon [at]gmail.com

I can write about anything between heaven and hell, although I prefer writing m/m stories. I will not write about stories where excessive use of, or where someone derives joy from anything with blood, pain, scat or anything of the likes. Unless it is a pure necessity of the story, so long it is NOT a fetish, and exists in the “better parts” of the story, that we all love here on AFF

   PM MEEEE ~~~~~~~~

Oh, and do post reviews. But do note, destructive reviews will be ignored, and if possible reported to higher-ups here on AFF
