Chapter 2: The Investigation
Chapter 2: The Interrogation
From there on it was all a blur to Rogue. One minute she was still in the house and the next in an ambulance. She could make out people saying something about extreme shock. Am I going crazy? Or does someone really have the power to communicate telepathically?“Has Miss Logan said anything since you found her?” A man asked. He was close that much Rogue could tell.“Miss Logan is in extreme shock. She was almost catatonic when we found her, she also keeps shaking her head and whispering to herself.” The woman EMT beside her answered.“Can you make out what Miss Logan has been saying?”“It doesn’t make sense. I heard it…I know I did.” The woman replied. There was silence for a while and then the man asked the EMT woman nicely to leave.“I’m not leaving her,” The woman answered in a stern voice leaving no room for an argument.“Miss Logan, can you open your eyes and look at me please?” Shaking her head as if to clear it Rogue finally opened her eyes since she was put in the ambulance. Looking at the man she immediately noticed that he was an officer, and there were actually two of them, a man and a woman. “There’s a good girl. Miss Logan, I am a homicide detective and my name is Roger Perry and this is my partner Payton Stagira.”“Hello.”The woman officer, Payton Stagira, leaned forward and looked at Rogue with empathy in her eyes. “I heard that you were the first to… find your dad and brother, is that correct?”Rogue’s lip quivered at the memory, “Yes.”Stagira sighed, knowing that her next question was going to be tough on the girl but knew that she needed answers. “Can you tell me exactly what had happened, from the time you got home until we were called?”“When I got to the house I unlocked the front door to let myself in. Then, I dropped my back pack onto the sofa and went into the kitchen to get a glass of water.” Remembering how she found her father and brother brought tears to her eyes once more and silently cried, knowing that she had to tell the rest of the story. “I remember that as I was drinking my water I noticed that the house was too still and quiet. I thought that my father and my brother, James, were playing a trick on me, trying to scare me. I quickly finished off my water, then walked from room to room calling out to my brother and father and waiting for an answer. They never did answer, and as soon as I reached the hallway that my brother and I shared I noticed a trail of blood… Oh God there was so much blood.” Rogue gasped and stopped when she remembered the voice that wasn’t hers inside her head, saying that this was just the beginning. She started shaking her head and rocking back and forth. “This can’t be happening.” She whispered. “I heard it, I know I did. Either that or I am going insane.”“What did you hear Rogue?” Stagira asked quietly so not to set her off. She knew that Rogue was on the verge of having a mental breakdown, and then there would be no way of finding the monster that did this to Rogue and her mother.“I can’t tell you. If I do, you would think I was crazy, and I am not crazy! I know what I heard!”“I won’t think of you as crazy Rogue, but you have to tell us what you heard. Please?”“No! I have to go. I have to get out of here. They’re going to come back here and kill my mother and me! I can’t let that happen!” Rogue suddenly jumped out of the ambulance and was running towards her mother, when she was caught from behind. On instinct turned towards her captor and gave the person her best right hook that she could manage. “I am sorry,” she offered, “but there are some things that you just wouldn’t understand.”“What won’t we understand Rogue?” Stagira asked in exasperation.Perry, now holding his bloody, broken nose, asked, “They? What do you mean?”Rogue sighed, falling to the ground on her knees, wrapping her arms around herself. “I know simply because I heard a guy’s voice.” Rogue closed her eyes silently crying, knowing that his voice would haunt her for the rest of her life.
Stagira came to sit beside her. “Was he still in the house when you heard this guy’s voice?”Rogue knew that she had to lie considering she didn’t want to go to some loony bin just for telling the truth. “I think he was but I can’t be sure. It was like a whisper but it was loud enough so I could hear it. He said ‘What you don’t know Rogue, is that they’re just starting. Your nightmare is just beginning.’ It was as if he whispered it into my ear but no one there next to me.” A grim look passed across her face, within seconds it was gone. That’s as close to the truth as they are going to get. If I tell them that the voice was inside my head, they’re going to ship me off to the closest psych ward for sure! HA! I will do or say anything to keep that from happening.Noticing the girl’s blank face, Perry raised his voice a little to get her attention, “Could you recognize the voice if you heard it again?”“Of course I would.” Rogue snapped at her. “That is the only thing that has been going through my mind before my mother got home and after she made a call to you guys.”“Okay Miss Logan, I am going to go talk to your mother and see if there is anything else that we are missing.”As soon as the detectives leave her side she then hears a voice again inside her head, but this time it’s a different voice, the voice of her father and brother’s killer.“There’s a good girl Rogue. Keep this up and I might let you live.”Rogue knew then that she wasn’t going crazy and would have to find the killer with the help of her other best friend Jason even if it killed her. She would not let this guy go unpunished; to fight fire with fire.Enjoy and please leave a review or rating!
