Chapter: 2

I found myself jolted out of bed as the sound of the door bell rang. Landing on my ass I looked out the window as the UPS guy was just driving off.

"I\'m sure I didn\'t order a package..." I mumbled to myself scratching my ear. I stood rising to my full height feeling the cool breeze on my chest from my ceiling fan. I fixed my pajama bottoms and walked out of my room walking down the stairs. I unlocked the front door opening it as sunlight blinded me I noticed a package on the ground. The package was big enough to hold a pair of shoes. And it was addressed personally to me, and on the top was an emblem.

There was a cat surrounded by feathers. It looked like a picture I had drawn sometime ago of a cat swatting at a couple of feathers floating around through the air like they were mice.

I paid it no mind bringing the package inside closing the door behind me. I set it down on the dining room table retrieving a knife from the kitchen.

As I approached the box the knife in hand I was hesitant to open it not knowing what was inside. Within the next few moments I just cut the box open cutting straight through the tape. I set the knife down on the table as I slowly went to reach for the flaps of the box. I slowly pulled them back to reveal a cat no older than five months, two jewelry boxes, a folded letter, and a blanket.

I pulled out a letter along with the two jewelry boxes setting them down on the table. The kitten was sleeping soundly even when I scratched under it\'s chin as it purred.

Unfolding the letter I read it aloud to myself:

"Dear jaxs, on behalf of the second in command in your absence. I have cordially invited you to join us at the french region ball for a welcome into your royal status as king of the cats in seven days time..." I scratched my head, "Huh?" My voice full of confusion as I mumbled, "I\'m pretty sure I\'m not of any \'royal...status.\'" I said using air qoutes. I kept on reading:

"The cat is yours, like as we all are... His name is Chaz, he\'s six months old going on seven. He\'s the perfect cat, and he uses a litter box... Well that\'s great I guess... In one jewelry box is two collars one for the cat, one for you... Ooh!" I opened the longer jewelry box pulling out both collars one much longer than the other and larger. The larger collar was black with the initials: J.A.N. in red.

Which was essentially my initials: Jaxs Alvier Nalin.

The other collar was red with Chaz\'s name on it in green. It would show up well on his black fur. I set the collars down as I read on, "in the other jewelry box is a ring suited perfectly to fit your left middle finger. It has a emerald gem along with two sapphire gems. This ring belonged to your...father?"

I opened the other box, and it\'s the same ring he used to wear in every picture that I have of him. I put down the letter and took the ring out of the box placing it on my left middle finger. My father was murdered five years ago and I was suppose to inherit the ring from him, but that was why he was murdered. They stole the ring from him and found no leads as to why they wanted it, nor why they killed him for it. "And here it is... What\'s so special about this ring anyways?" I mumbled holding it close to my chest.
