the first encounter
A man was laying in front of her against a tree. She leaned down and gently touched him on the face seeing if he was still alive.
She jumped a bit when he groaned. “Well at least hes still alive” She thought while sitting down in front of him and sighing. Izumi figured he was going to be thirsty when he woke up and got up to get water. After a few moments she came upon a stream and filled a make shift cup of water. After doing so she purified the water before heading back to him.
Katsu woke up and sniffed the air. He smelled something but he wasn’t sure of who or what it was. He heard a twig snap and got himself ready for a fight. To his surprise he saw a young maiden look at him shocked and holding what looked like a cup.
“What’s your name?” Katsu asked weakly and slightly demanding.
“Izumi and what is yours.” The maiden named Izumi asked still keeping her distance.
“Katsu. I smell a demon on you Izumi.” Katsu said matter of factly.
“Its most likely because I’m half demon. My father was a water demon.” She said moving closer. “I assume you’re thirsty.”
Katsu just nodded.
Izumi looked at him with curiosity. He seemed strong to her but also not a threat. “He’ too weak to be one.” She thought to herself as she knelt to give him the water. She waited as she gave him the water thirstly before starting to get up and get more.
“No wait.” Katsu said grabbing the sleeve of her kimono.
“I need to go and get more water.” She told him while kneeling down next to him again.
“I’ll be fine. I just need to rest.” He said still not letting go of her kimono. “Tell me though, how is it your mother was spared from being killed?”
Izumi looked at him a little shocked. “According to my mother he took pity on her because her father sold her to a group of bandits so he could keep drinking. When he found her she had escaped from their abuse and weak from starvation.”
Katsu looked at her with pity before nodding and letting her go. “I would like that water now.”
Izumi pressed her lips together firmly. She was not one to be told what to do but she stopped herself. She rationalized that he was weak and needed help and obviously he was trying to act macho to seem like he was still stronger.
Katsu watched her leave and sighed in relief. He couldn’t help but wonder how a beautiful young maiden happened to be around in his time of ultimate weakness. He smiled prevertedly. Either way he wasn’t going to let it go to waste.
