Two Days Later


Diiinng-dong. Diiinng-dong. Ding-dong.

Tobie waited for Mika to answer the door. Straighting his red tee-shirt after rubbing his sweaty palms against his dark blue jeans he began to look around the front of the two story brick house. Mika had flowers of all shapes and sizes bordering the house in every color from pale pink to dark purple. The lawn seemed to have been recently mowed from the smell in the air. There were trees in the yard for shade but Tobie hoped there were also some in the backyard. The door and shutters were painted red and there seemed to be white cloth curtains in the windows. Just as Tobie was about to ring the door bell again he heard footsteps coming from in side.

“Is that you Tobie?” called Mika as she opened the door.

“Yeah it’s me. Sorry I’m so la...” Tobie stop mid sentance as the young woman stepped further out. She was dressed in a white floral dress that clung and swayed as she moved.

“Oh, that‘s alright I was running a little slow myself. Come on in.” Mika closed the door as Tobie passed by her. “Is that all you have?” She asked as he eyed his two medium sized dark brown suitcases. “I sold most my stuff to get here from Carolina. I’ve been slowly buying things since I moved here. I’ll get more with the money from my new job. I have all the essentials I’m going to need for right now. Where do you want me to put my things?”

The small woman show Tobie to the living room off to the left as the begain his tour.

“Your room is upstairs on the left across from mine. There is one bathroom on the side of mine and the middle room that you can use. There is a bathroom down here across from the stairs too. The kitchen is down the hall past the stairs and you can put your case in the closet under the stairwell over there on the right after you put your things up.”

Thanks. Do you mind if I make some tea before I put my stuff up? I have some work to do tonight and I need the boost.”

“Sure, the tea bags are in the cabinet over the stove. Would you make me a cup too? Oh! Could you make those two cups for me? Brian is going to be over in a minute to meet you?”

Tobie frowned as he remembered that Mika had a boyfriend. He went in to the kitchen and put the water on after putting his suitcase under the stairs. As he sat there waiting for the water to boil Tobie thought about what this Brian would be like. The guy would be tall for sure because that had always been Mika’s type in high school. Brian would probably be bleached blonde with pretty boy features. The way Mika had talked about the guy the whole package would be dressed in a super expensive suit that looked it.

The kettle started to scream so he began to pour the water in the cops. As Tobie began to look for spoons the door bell rang. A few seconds later he heard Mika’s voice followed by a low deep voice. Then he heard Mika call out to him.

“Hey Tobie come on and let me introduce you to Brian.”

“I’ll be there in just a sec.”

Tobie grabbed some cookies that were on the counter and put them, the three cups, and spoons on a small tray. Then he walked into the living room. As he approached the chair Tobie saw who he guessed was Brian.

He could see that there were a few differences between Brian and himself. Brian had a little darker tan then Tobie's own honey coloring. Brian’s dark brown hair was also long enough to fall in his face as he bent to sit. Where as his own was a closely cropped light dirty blonde. Tobie was always getting compliments for his dark green, but Brian’s were a light steal blue that cast shadows and seemed to darken as Tobie came near.

Tobie walked over to the two and put the tray on a table that sat between the love seat and sofa. Brian got back up to introduce himself Tobie noticed that Brian was at least three or four inches taller then his own six feet with much wider shoulders. From his style of dress Tobie could see this guy was no brainless spoil brat.

“Hello. It’s nice to meet you Tobie.” Brian said as he put his hand out. Tobie reached out to shake his. “Hi. It’s good to meet you too Brian.”

“So Tobie, Mika tells me you’re gay.”

Tobie was just about to sit when Brian’s words stopped him dead in his tracks. He hadn’t expected them. “Um…yeah. I am.” Tobie finally sat down and looked over at Mika and Brian “Don’t worry about him Tobie. He just likes to make people nervous, just don’t pay him any mind.” Then, looking over to Brian with a set of daggers in her eyes, “Be nice to him.”

Brian stared at Tobie as Mika told him about the conversations they'ed been having for the past two days about how Tobie had come to except that he was gay and that he had only really dated one guy that had broken his heart. Brian began to frown as Mika talked. Tobie was giving Mika love bird eyes while she talked and wouldn’t stop looking at her even as he shifted in his chair to get his cup. The older male knew good and well that this guy was lying to them. He could sense it and Brian had learned to trust his senses. Just as he was about to call Tobie out on his lie Mika asked him a question.

“You know what Brian? Don’t you think that Tobie and Chris would make a cute couple? They have a few things in common. Oh, but you know Chris better then I do. What do you think?”

Brian seemed to stop to think about her question, but instead Mika’s question had given him a great idea. He knew that Tobie was most likely lying about something. ‘I could have some real fun watching this guy squirm. I’m going to mess with this guy’s head a little for lying to us.’

Tobie didn’t like the way Brian’s eyes seemed to darken or the smirk that played across his face as he thought.

“You know what honey? I think you might be right, but I think I should hang out with Tobie to see if the two would really work together.” Brian finally said with a big smile on his face. He looked over in time to see Tobie’s worried expression before he could cover it up with a half smile. “What do you think Tobie? After all, it is you that is going to possible go out with him.

Brian’s smile looked more like an evil grin to him. ‘How the hell did this conversation start?’ Tobie had never thought he’d really have to go out with a guy. All he was going to do was make guys up and say that they hadn’t worked out. He was not prepared for this so soon. Hell he hadn’t even unpacked his things yet and Mika was already setting him up. He had to think of something soon, and then it hit him. ‘I have to go hang out with Brian so he can see if this Chris guy and I would get alone. I can see what Mika sees in him. Maybe I could use some pointers or find something wrong with him.’ He was just going to hang out with Brian a bit.

“Um…sure that sounds great! When and where should we hang out?”

Brian hadn’t really expected him to agree. Maybe he was wrong, but something told him that Tobie had never kissed a man let alone dated one. Brian decided that it would be interesting to see how far Tobie would go to keep up with his lie. He looked Tobie in the eye and said, “There is this new Italian restaurant that just opened up a little while ago. How about we go there and then we can catch a movie, or go to a club. Which ever you like is all right with me.”

It sounded a hell of a lot like a date to him, but he figured Brian had a girlfriend so it couldn’t be that. Mika didn’t seem to mind either. “The restaurant sounds good. I don’t know about the rest. I guess we could decide later. When were you planning on us doing this?”

“I was thinking this Saturday. I’m going to be busy all this week.” Brian looked at his watch and frowned. “It’ll also give you time to get settled in. I have to be going now. I’m going to be late for a business lunch. I’ll see you on Saturday Tobie. I’ll be by around six, or six-thirty,” Tobie sat there on the couch as Mika walked Brian to door.

“I’ll call you tomorrow Mika, but I won’t be able to see you till Saturday either. Love ya and I’ll see you later.”

“Love ya too. I’ll expect that call tomorrow too.” She reached on her tiptoes to give him a kiss. Tobie tuned his head from the cute little picture.

“Bye,” said Brian as he turned to leave. Then he stopped and turned back. “It was nice meeting you again Tobie. I'll see you later.” Then he turned around and walked out the door.

“Bye babe,” called Mika as she closed the door behind him.

Tobie was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t notice Mika untill she was right in front of him. He nearly fell off the couch when he heard her say his name. Tobie what’s the matter with you?” She had her arms crossed. “You worried about what Brian will think of you? Don’t,if he doesn’t think you and Chris would work out I could still get a date or two for you. He’s not the only guy I think might be good for you.”

“No! I’m not worried about any of that. I was just trying to figure something out.” Tobie said a little too fast. Mika opened her mouth to speak, but decided to let it go and went to put back the cups and cookies.

“You know what Mika, I think I’m just going to put my stuff up and go on to bed early. I have to get up at six in the morning tomorrow. I’ll try not to wake you up when I leave, goodnight.”

Mika was about to argue that it was too early and he had work to finish, but thought better of it. Instead she just said ok. She heard him as he went up the stairs and got ready for bed. Mika couldn’t think of what could have Tobie looking so worried. Maybe he was shy about dating a new guy.

Well if that was the case she and Brian would have to get him out of that.

She would have to remember to tell Brian about her theory.


Thanks for the review and keep them coming. I think this story will only be a five or six chapters long for now. If people don't like where i stop at i may make it longer. Hope Thanksgiving Day was filled with good food.
