Like Falling Leaves

Rebecca had always heard that drinking coffee late in the day made it hard for you to fall asleep, but there were other reasons for her insomnia tonight. She was confused beyond all belief and even though she was excited about seeing Kim tomorrow, she was jittering nervously.

Lesbian? The word just had such a negative stigma to feel right to her. But that what she was right? Lesbian, bi-sexual, bi-curious, sexually confused, or just plain confused? She knew that staying up thinking about it wouldn't change anything. All she knew was that she couldn't forget the tingling feeling still lingering on her lips and the flavor of that kiss.

Somehow she must have fell asleep, because one minute she was tossing and turning, the next minute she was being blinded by a mid morning sun. She had missed breakfast, but her mom had left out some homemade muffins for her. In a strange breeze of playful adventure, Rebecca went to the cabinet and made herself a cup of instant coffee. She read the directions and everything, but the coffee must have spoiled or something because it tasted nothing like the coffee she had yesterday, or the one she had last night. A few more sips and she had to toss the rest down the sink.

Rebecca spent the rest of the morning getting ready for her date... or meeting, or whatever it was called. Everything she tried on was either too dress up or looked too girly. She didn't know why she was so stressed out about seeing Kim again, but it felt like the rest of her life would be determined by tonight. She wanted to just be herself, but Kim was so different that it seemed there was no way they’d fit together. She ended up throwing on her favorite jeans and a warm cardigan just minutes before she needed to head out the door.

Rebecca stood out in front of Kim's house for what felt like hours, her outstretched finger hovering nervously over the doorbell. She kept running everything through her head trying to decide whether to press it or not. When she recalled the feeling of Kim's lips on her neck, her finger mashed against the button as if it had a mind of its own. The door swung open so quickly it made Rebecca jump in her shoes.

"Hi!" Kim grinned, wearing a little less black than the day before. She was still rocking the punk look, but today's outfit had a few splashes of color here and there.

"Hi..." Rebecca smiled back, not really sure how to act in a situation like this.

"So... you want to go get some coffee or something?" The dark haired beauty suggested.

"Sure, sounds great." Rebecca agreed, just wanting the awkward tension to end.

The weather was much nicer than the day before. Even though there was still a sharp chill in the air, the sun was up and shining bright, it's rays kissing their skin with gentle warmth. From the equal amount of leaves in the trees and on the ground, Rebecca guessed they were smack dab in the middle of autumn, not that that was any way to determine that kind of thing.

The small cafe that seemed so empty yesterday was now packed with people trying to get their lunch time buzz. As they waited in line, Rebecca couldn't help but feel everyone's eyes staring at them, judging them. She didn't know if they looked like a couple or not, but she could feel her cheeks burning in embarrassment. When they finally ordered and got their coffee, Rebecca dragged Kim out of the cafe in to an impromptu walk around the park.

Rebecca always enjoyed walking around the park by herself, but now with coffee and a close friend, it was peacefully blissful. They followed the trail that cut deep through the forest that bordered the park. The way the sun light up the leaves on the trees and on the ground surrounded them in a sea of bright browns, reds, and yellows. The whole world seemed alive, and they had it all to themselves.

"Do you mind if I smoke?" Kim asked, taking out a pack.

Rebecca didn't know what to say. She had always been taught that cigarettes were nothing but death rolled up in white paper, but she didn't want to be an annoyance. "Sure... I'll just stand up wind."

Rebecca watched with mixed emotions as Kim light up a cigarette and took a few relaxed puffs. Rebecca felt her heart lurch at the sight of Kim's tender lips sucking softly on the cotton filter. The memory of those lips pressed against hers made her knees weak. She wanted to feel them again.

Kim tilted her head curiously. "Would you like to try one?"

Rebecca realized that she had been staring. "Oh, no. No thank you, I'm fine really."

"You sure?" Kim teased.

"Yes I'm sure." Rebecca said shortly. "I really don't like those things."

"Have you ever tried one?" Kim nagged.

"Well, no... but they're bad for you." The younger girl pleaded, running out of reasons.

"Here, I have an idea." Kim grinned "I think you'll like this, and if you don't... well, no then you'll know for sure."

Kim took a long draw from her cigarette then grasped Rebecca by the shoulders, grinning. Without warning, Kim leaned in and kissed the timid child, parting her lips just enough to press a tiny hiss of smoke in to Rebecca's mouth. Rebecca wanted to turn away but she had been aching for those lips all day and now that she finally had them, she didn't want to give them up. She could feel the smoke burring down her throat and tickling her lungs, but she held on, focusing on Kim's lips. She felt her head start to spin, her lungs spasming, the world around her starting to panic, until finally, she had to turn away and cough.

"Like it?" Kim toyed, exhaling the rest of the smoke from her lungs.

"No." Rebecca coughed, flopping down on a bed of leaves.

"I guess it's not for everyone." Kim laughed softly, joining her on the ground. "How about we try that again without the smoke?"

It took Rebecca a few seconds to realize what her friend was hinting at. She still felt a little embarrassed, kissing someone she barely knew, especially being outside where someone could walk up on them at any moment. But all of her worries were overshadowed by her tingling urge to spend the rest of her life in Kim's sweet embrace. Kim climbed up on Rebecca and slowly lowered her soft lips on to Rebecca's.

Everything in the world seemed to suddenly be bursting with sensation. She could feel the softness of the leaves wetness of the dirt beneath her. She could smell the fresh smell of rain mixed with the dry bitter hue of leaves growing old. The warmth of the sun and nip of the slight breeze. The pressure of Kim's body, the tight tendons and soft flesh. The velvety smooth taste of her lips, the hint of coffee still clinging to them. All things seemed to melt together in to one perfect moment, one perfect kiss.

Rebecca was sharply drawn out of her trance as she felt a cold hand slip under her shirt and brush against her stomach. She could feel her nail dragging across her skin as her hands made their way to the to her small breasts. She never knew how sensitive her own body was until she felt Kim's palms massaging her soft flesh, her fingers slipping beneath the thin fabric of her bra, brushing against her nipples.

Rebecca let out a sound she had never made before. It was somewhere between a moan and a giggle and it embarrassed her to the point that she broke out in even more giggles. Kim shot her a sideways glance and squeezed again, grinning when she got the same reaction out of the cute girl. In a blurry rush of lips and flesh, Rebecca's shirt was off, her bra tossed off somewhere in to the tree line, and her naked chest exposed to the world. Kim's lips soon found their way to Rebecca's soft mounds, kissing, licking, teasing her sensitive nubs. Rebecca found herself moaning in newer and stranger ways, her self control losing the battle against pleasure.

Kim took off her shirt as well, tossing it haphazardly towards the forest. She returned in to kiss Rebecca's neck, her large breasts melting seamlessly against the younger girl's. Her lips traveling lower, kissing between her breasts, nibbling at her stomach, pulling at mouthfuls of her jeans.

"You alright?" Kim asked, coming up to Rebecca's lips for another kiss.

"I'm a little cold." Rebecca chuckled. "But I think I'm alright."

"You don't think we're going to fast?" Kim asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know..." Rebecca breathed. "But I don't want to stop now."

"Me neither." Kim growled, kissing Rebecca sweetly and nibbling on her bottom lip.

As Kim moved to remove Rebecca's pants, the younger could feel her skin burning with nervous excitement. It was the first time she had been in a situation like this, and even though she said she was ready, her mind was screaming at her to run. Kim probably had tons more experience with things like this, and Rebecca didn't see how she could be any good. But as her jeans were snatched away from her and the cool air teased her legs, her body ached to be touched. Her naked back against the damp ground, Kim positioning herself between Rebecca's legs, the moment seemed to be unreal.

Even through the fabric of her panties, Rebecca was able to feel every tender detail of Kim's lips as they pressed deeply in to her lower mound. She couldn't tell if it was the wetness of Kim's tongue, or her own excitement, but her panties were soaking through. Her body was burning with a tingling rush that she didn't know how to quench. Kim slipped her fingers under the elastic of Rebecca's panties and tore away her last bit of shame.

"God you're cute." Kim growled, staring at the almost nonexistent tuff of hair between Rebecca's legs.

Rebecca couldn't respond. Her knees were pressing together trying to keep herself covered, but her burning libido was urging her thighs apart. Kim could see the struggle in her eyes and helped on the side of libido. A few well placed kisses had her open like a rose petal waiting for the rain. Again Kim's lips found their mark, pressing wetly in to Rebecca's young sex, heat pouring in to the cold autumn air. The young girl's hurried breath turned to hushed moans as Kim's tongue found its way in and along her sensitive folds. The older girl's velvety muscle skillfully toyed at her senses, blurring the lines between reality and blissful dreams. Rebecca could feel her body rushing with nowhere to go, flying with her back on the ground.

A new panicked flood of ecstasy came as the assaulting pleasure found its way to Rebecca's clitoris, making her dance in her skin. The warmth of Kim's tongue poured in to her, it's velvety wet texture making her knees rattle. Nothing compared to the sensation radiating throughout her body, and within a few blissful minutes, Rebecca's body was wiggling and writhing on the bed of leaves. The young girl's mind was clouding over with emotions and sensations she didn't understand, but she didn't dare stop to find out. Barely able to breath, Rebecca gasped out as surges of elated pleasure shook throughout her body, excitement gushing from her virgin sex. Her mind went blank and time lost meaning as her hips bucked up to meet Kim's tongue, forcing the prodding muscle deeper within her quivering folds. The longer she seemed to hang on to the moment, the deeper her body fell in to pleasure. But the time it all had ended, Rebecca hardly even knew her own name. The last thing she remembered before she fell asleep was Kim's glistening face as the older girl snuggled up next to her in a world all to themselves.

When Rebecca finally realized she was laying out in the woods butt naked in the arms of a half naked girl, she sat up with in a panic. Her bra and panties were nowhere to be found and they were both covered in a violent mess of leaves wet dirt. And even though she was still hovering in the afterglow of sex, the wet mess between her legs was starting to feel slimy and cold. Not exactly glamorous.

"Calm down." Kim grinned. "You can change at my house. You still need to pick up your clothes from yesterday."

"Right..." Rebecca responded, not hearing a thing her dark haired friend said to her. Had this answered anything for her? She still didn't know if she was a lesbian or whatever, but at the moment, she damn well felt like one. Could this be who she was? Just 24 hours ago if anyone asked her if she was in to girls she would have said no without hesitation, now... she didn't know what she'd say. Not that of that mattered right now. "Let's head to your place."

A quick shower and fresh clothes made her feel like a brand new person, which was fitting because the old her seemed like such a memory now. There was an awkward tension in Rebecca's mind as she waited for Kim to get cleaned up. Now she wished she had had more experience with things like this, because small talk seemed so meaningless, but she felt like she had to say something.

"How about some more coffee?" Kim suggested as she came in to the room.

"Sure." Rebecca said nervously, wondering how different things would be now that they were more than friends.

They made it to the cafe without speaking a single word. There was this strange connection Rebecca felt, and a sudden glance or gesture spoke volumes without having to open her mouth. The cafe was empty so it didn't take long before they were sitting in their usual booth. Minutes passed in blissful content as they sipped their coffee, sharing occasional childlike smiles. Finally one of them had to say something.

"Look, I don't know how it happened, but somehow I got swept up in this without thinking it through." Kim breathed regretfully.

"What do you mean?" Rebecca looked painfully stunned.

"I mean us. I was too afraid of you leaving me that I didn't realize I'd be leaving you." Kim said, almost laughing at her own heartache. "I'm heading off to college in a few days and then I'll be spending a year over seas studying abroad."

"But what about Christmas vacation, spring break?" Rebecca was grasping for anything that might stop her world from coming apart. "What if I waited until you get back?"

"No." Kim said quickly. "It wouldn't be fair to you. You're young, you're cute. You're about to head off to college where you'll find someone wonderful who'll actually be there for you. You don't need me."

"But I want you." Rebecca said, gritting her teeth to keep from shouting.

"Yeah, I want you too." Kim let out a bitter sweet sigh. "How about we leave this as just one great memory, a passing stranger on a bench stop. Nothing more."

"But I... what about tonight? Tomorrow? We still have time." Rebecca pleaded, tears starting to build in her eyes.

The regret in Kim's eyes was painful to see. "No. I don't want to get any closer, it'll just be that much harder when we get pulled apart."

Rebecca knew she was right, but her heart was pounding for the impossible. "One last kiss...?"

"Sorry..." Kim tossed some money on the table and was gone before Rebecca could even get up.

Again Rebecca was filled with emotions she didn't understand. As she took a long walk home, it was strange how different the world looked, so sad, so empty. She spent the rest of the day laying in bed, trying to cry. But the next morning, sitting at the kitchen table, sipping a cup of coffee, she started to understand why Kim had ended it the way she did. It still hurt, but it was a softer kind of hurt. After breakfast, Rebecca grabbed her purse and headed down to the bus stop. She was on her way to her favorite book store, slightly hoping she'd bump in to a certain dark haired stranger. But she didn't, and she ended up going to the book store as planned.

High school seemed to fade away and soon enough she was in college. And just like Kim said, Rebecca found a girl that was perfect in every way, but every now and then, when it rained or when she was drinking coffee, she'd be reminded of the day in the forest.

Author’s notes.

Honestly I didn’t think I’d get a response that quick, so thank you, Saige and Celery, I hope chapter 2 didn’t disappoint. It’s feedback like that makes all the hours of writing worthwhile.

Anyway, notes wise. I’ve never smoked, but I thought it fit her character so I added it. Coffee… yes. Oh, and I’m a dude, so that explains any physiological mistakes. Other than that, I'm actually pleased with how a 20 page story came from seeing leaves blowing in the wind.
