Pointlessness of Classes

Explanation of the poem: This poem was written within a 20 minute time period of my Sophomore year in high school, during a Creative Writing class. The teacher, who is a little scatterbrained, and spontaneous, told us to write down four of our favorite words. This was during the section of class where we were writing 20(Creative Writing 1) or 30 (Creative writing 2) Poems. Out of those four words, we were told to choose two to give him. Some people didn't realize he was going to make a poem out of it, and chose words like Breakfast, Burrito, Laundry, or Lightbulb. Others figured it out, but were busy looking at their phones, and so we got Whatever, What, Hey, Okay or Yeah. I figured it out, and chose Coal, and Soul, giving myself at least one line to rhyme nicely. Thankfully, the teacher allowed us to erase up to twelve of the words from the list. Needless to say, I needed that many to give myself a poem. When I was done, I realized I didn't understand what half the words meant, and there was no genius title going through my mind other than "I hate this class". My mother saved me. The title until that point was Pointlessness of Classes. She said "Were you on drugs when you wrote this?" so I found a bit of an inside joke to help my title. She loved it. And now I present....

Pointlessness of Classes
(ADHD Kid on Drugs)

Electric silver rainbow,
Shimmering at night,
Psycho creeper stud,
Sees with evil sight.

Happiness, togetherness,
I bid thee both adieu,
Awesome beautiful jokes,
I say good-bye to you.

The metaphoric epic,
Of a wandering soul,
Inevitable to turn,
My heart as black as coal.

It’s obvious and pathetic,
Hey, yeah I feel it too,
How even when I’m napping,
There’s nothing I can’t do.

Ridiculous, mediocre, divine,
Perhaps somewhat random too,
Sorry, thanks, you’re welcome,
And now the joke’s on you.

Facetious, ambiguity, finesse,
A lot of random words,
Went into this poem,
To say “This class is for the birds.”
