Angel of Death

Azeal just lay there for awhile after waking from his surgery. The doctors were saying that it was a huge miracle that he was even alive at all. They were so certain that he wouldn’t make it, but he did. Hearing footsteps get increasingly closer to him, he shut his eyes, pretending to be asleep. He heard his mother sigh at him, then felt her hand hold onto his. If she was here, chances were that his father was too.
Azeal didn’t really hate his father, but they weren’t exactly close. His father wasn’t really the type of man to have many friends, and wasn’t known as the friendliest of guys either. Though it was obvious that the man loved his wife and daughter dearly, Azeal never really got the same affection. In fact, there were times where the teen thought that his father was actually afraid of him. He could never understand why, though. Truthfully, the boy’s father wasn’t too close with the young man that his wife had adopted years ago either, but at least there was no fear there.
“Azeal?” whispered his mother, Bianca. “Please wake up, son…”
The youth just kept on with his charade.
“Let him sleep, Bianca,” his father, Atarun, told her. “He’s had a hard day…”
“Someone tried to kill him, though!” cried the woman. “Why would anyone do that?!”
“Bianca… Please, settle down. He’s going to be fine. Kanau was even the one to work on him.”
Ah yes, Kanau. He was a friend of Bianca’s that never did quite get along with Atarun. They had their share of arguments, but after Kanau became a physician, Atarun held a bit more respect for the younger man.
“I know that, but… we almost lost him…”
“I know… I know.”

Leias sighed deeply as he released a young boy’s soul, after seeing him hanging from a sharp piece of wood that had been torn from a wooden cabin during a hurricane. The child was almost… relieved to see him though. He knew that the pain was going away.
The young Angel of Death walked along the whole area that was hit, observing the severity of the injuries, seeing who could and who could not see him. If they could lock eyes with Leias, then it was their time, even if he wished for otherwise.
Except for that time…
The evening that Leias had seen that boy in the hospital, he had wished, nearly begged, that the Goddess let him be… and he was answered. The teen had survived the horrific event. The blonde angel was lectured about that later on, though, being told that soon others will expect the same. Still, Leias believed that either the youth wouldn’t tell anyone about it, or people simply would not believe him. He saw no threat, no horrible consequence of his actions. Perhaps the teen won’t even remember seeing him that night.
However… Leias soon found himself hoping that the teen would remember, but he could not understand why he would want this. Could he simply be wishing that the boy remembered his rescuer? No, Leias wasn’t that selfish. There was something else, something a bit… foreign, yet familiar. Something that kept trying to pull Leias closer to the boy again, yet the angel held back. He couldn’t afford to see him again, no matter how much he wanted to.

After finally being allowed home, Azeal stayed in his room for the longest time. His mother would bring his meals to him day after day, and the teen would thank her with a nod and a smile and then eat. Day after day, after day, after day, after day, and so on…
The problem was, Azeal just couldn’t get him out of his mind. The beautiful blonde angel with the dark wings at the hospital held his attention the entire time. Being near death brought them together… so perhaps it could reunite them again.
Acting on impulse alone, Azeal grabbed the bottle of painkillers he kept in his room during his “still recovering” state and opened it. He hesitated though, starting to think about what he was doing. Yet, the desire to see that gorgeous blonde angel again was too great. He popped the pills into his mouth, one after another, then dropped the empty bottle into the trashcan.
And he waited… and waited…
He wasn’t quite sure what to expect at first, but he started to feel a bit… sluggish. Laying back, Azeal watched the ceiling of his room. He was starting to feel a little odd… but then he saw him.
The blonde, black-winged angel that had been there at the hospital, was here with him now, though not in a happy way. As he was drifting more away from reality, Azeal barely heard him say, “Please don’t do this… You’re being such an idiot,” and that’s when Bianca came in with Azeal’s next, and possibly final, meal…
