Something Fishy is Going On

There is a strange building in the middle of the city, where people come to witness something magical at the hands of Lady Ruelle, a powerful psychic with the ability to call ghosts and other spirits to her. Then, she uses their wishes and dreams as rewards for working for her. Everything has its price, after all…

Second Nightmare: Something Fishy is Going On

Sara sighed as she sat in her chair. She had had a terrible dream the night before, and now refused to even look at the family fish tank. It was really frustrating for her. She was supposed to be going to an aquarium tomorrow, and if she continued having nightmares about them then she’d never be brave enough to go to one again. Sighing again, she decided to go out for a walk, hoping to clear her mind and rid her of the terrifying thoughts of the dream.

It was easier said than done, though, as the walk only increased her thoughts on it. “This is hopeless!” she cried.

“What’s so hopeless, dear one?” asked a woman, walking up to her with a grin.

“Uhh… who are you?” questioned Sara.

The woman’s grin only grew with her answer. “I am known as Lady Ruelle,” and with a slight bow she added, “professional psychic.”

“Oh… then maybe you can hypnotize me to make my nightmares stop?”

“Haha, goodness no, my dear. I am not a hypnotist… but I do sell dream catchers if you wish to buy one at my little shop.”

Sara thought it over, and after a moment she nodded, saying, “Alright, I’ll buy one. Where’s the shop?”

“Right this way…”

Later that evening, as the nightlife of the city came to life, Cassian was just arriving at his destination, the bedroom of Sara Johnson. The dream catcher continued to call out to him as the girl slept, small noises escaping her as the nightmare consumed her. The ghost quickly leapt into her mind, getting to her personal dream world.

And there he saw what was terrifying her at night. All around him was fish. They were sticking to the walls, squirming on the floor. “Ew,” Cassian said to himself, poking one with a sword. It didn’t take long for him to hear the girl’s screaming. He took flight and searched for her, finding her… standing in a tub full of scum suckers… “Dreams are so weird,” Cassian remarked, flying down and snatching the girl up, soaring high above the sea creatures as he looked for an area without the disgusting things around.

Sara just stared up at her savior. He was so handsome, so brave. The long dark hair, the black, feathery wings… what was there not to like about this stranger? As they landed on a roof, she got a chance to see his eyes. They were glowing red, and at that moment she felt afraid. Was this really an angel from Hell?

Cassian looked around, frowning at the amount of raw fish. “I really hope she loves seafood,” he commented, before creating the magical circle in the air, like he had before. All of the fish got sucked up into it, leaving the area clear. “I seriously need a new job… why not just make me haunt people?”

“U-um, excuse me…” Sara started, “who are you?”

Cassian just looked at her at first. “I guess… you can call me a dream catcher.”

The girl blinked her eyes. “A dream catcher?”

That next morning, Ruelle walked down to her shop after her morning tea, locking the door to the upper levels of her building. As she came to the door of her shop to unlock it and prepare for the quiet day, she paused. Right outside her door was the biggest crowd she had ever seen, most of them being women, while there were a couple men, whom she sensed were homosexual. “I wonder, Cassian, if you have anything to do with this recent business boom…”

“Ugh,” was all the teenage ghost could say about it. The girl from last night must have told someone about it, and soon it became huge. And sure enough, nearly each and every one of those customers bought a dream catcher.

Ruelle laughed lightly as she counted her money that evening. “You’re going to be a very busy guy for awhile,” she teased him. “Make sure you behave for them, dear.”

“How about I just take my vacation now?”

Ruelle looked at him curiously. “Who ever said anything about vacation?”

“… I hate you.”
