Chapter Two
Scarlet groaned as her alarm clock went off and threw it against the wall.
“Kuso,” she hissed as she heard it break.
She climbed out of bed and threw on a pair of jeans and a shirt and tank top. She pulled on shoes and then ambled downstairs with a yawn. Rose’s perky and cheerful face greeted her. The petite girl handed Scarlet a cup of coffee.
Scarlet smiled and kissed her on the cheek. "Thank you Rose darling."
"Your welcome, Scarlet," Rose trilled. "I'm gonna wake Lily."
Rose disappeared in a flash and Scarlet shook her head. Damien wandered in and hooked an arm around her waist. He smiled down at her, his light brown eyes shining deviously.
"Good morning, Scarlet," he said and bent down to kiss her.
"No," she told him and spun away, smelling alcohol on his breath.
Scarlet stalked out of the house, her new silver messenger bag bumping lightly against her hip. A car pulled up next to her and her nostrils filled with the pleasant smell of vampires. She turned and smiled at Leo, Scott, and Jaden.
"Need a ride?" Leo asked, looking her up and down in a casual manner.
"No thank you," she said sweetly.
"Your loss," he said and sped off.
Scarlet rolled her eyes and continued walking. Soon, a street bike stopped by her. She smelt vampire again and she looked to see Alec straddling a silver street bike with a black jewel beset cello case strapped on his back.
"Do you need a ride, Miss Scarlet?" he asked softly.
Scarlet smiled. "Thank you. That's so kind of you to offer."
“If you’ll just put my cello case on your back, we can go,” he said and looked at her with a small smile.
She hopped onto the bike and wrapped her arms around his stomach, admiring his abs. He took off and Scarlet pressed her face against his back. She inhaled deeply and sighed happily. The smell of a vampire was Scarlet's favorite scent in the whole wide world. There was nothing like it.
They reached the highschool too soon for Scarlet. She hopped off the bike and handed him his cello case with a smile.
“Thank you, Alec,” she told him.
“Not a problem, Miss Scarlet,” he said. “Do you know where your classes are?”
Scarlet nodded. “Yep. I memorized the school layout.”
He laughed. “Did you get bored?” Alec laughed again. “Very well. You can fend for yourself. I have to go to the band room. I’ll see you later.”
Scarlet nodded and watched him walk away. A sigh escaped her and she dug out her cell phone from her messenger bag. Enough time to go to my locker, she thought. Scarlet walked into the school with long, lazy strides.
Leo watched Scarlet cross the commons area, her tantalizing hips swaying and ink black hair shining subtly in the dim morning light. She was certainly turning heads, boys and girls. Leo grinned and looked down at the sexy little human girl sitting in his lap. She was staring at Scarlet, her eyes burning with jealous rage. He grabbed her chin and gently jerked it up so she was looking into his eyes.
“What? You don’t like me anymore?” he purred.
She blushed and he kissed her roughly, enjoying her little tremble of fear.
Scarlet wandered into her first block. The teacher glanced over at her and his crystal blue eyes widened. She hid a smirk and smiled prettily at him.
“Ah. You must be my new student. Hello, Scarlet,” he said.
“Hello, Mr. Renner,” she said.
He blinked rapidly and shook his head. “Um, you can sit in the free seat in the back. We only have a classroom seat of textbooks, so you won’t be getting one.”
Scarlet nodded and walked to the back of the room, feeling the students stare at her. She giggled quietly and sat in the chair.
“Turn to page 256 and work on problems 30-45,” Mr. Renner said.
She found the textbook under her chair and flipped to the page. Scarlet rolled her eyes and completed the problems in less than a minute. She snapped the book shut and started doodling on her notebook.
“Hey, new girl,” a voice whispered. Scarlet glanced to her right to find a cute boy with extremely curly brown hair, amazing sea-green eyes that watched her from behind square wire rimmed glasses, and huge gages.
Scarlet smiled at him and cocked a brow. “I’m Scarlet.”
“Okay then, Scarlet,” he drawled. “Do you mind if I copy off you?”
She stifled a laugh and nodded. She handed over her paper and he smiled lazily at her.
“Thanks,” he said. “My name’s Caleb.”
“Nice to meet you, Caleb,” she told him and dug out a book from her messenger bag.
Scarlet yawned as she read. Caleb handed her back her paper just seconds before a shadow fell over her.
“Are you finished, Scarlet?” Mr. Renner asked.
Scarlet looked up at him. His eyes jumped continually from her paper to the slopes of her breasts that were shown off by her low-cut white t-shirt and finally to her face.
“Yes,” she told him. “Would you like to check my work?”
“No, no. I believe you,” he said and drifted off.
After everyone was done with their problems, Mr. Renner passed out some worksheets. Scarlet completed these easily and waited patiently for class to end.
After it ended, Scarlet walked to Advanced Physics. She was surprised to see Leo and Alec sitting in the classroom. The teacher sat her between them.
“Well, hello, Scarlet,” Leo said with a grin.
“Miss Scarlet,” Alec said with a nod.
“Hello, Leo. Alec.” Scarlet yawned.
“Tired?” Leo asked in an amused voice.
“Maybe a little,” she said. “Something was howling all night. You don’t have any werewolves around here, do you?”
“No, but sometimes they pass through and stay for a couple of weeks,” Alec told her.
Scarlet shivered. “I hate those damn things.”
They laughed.
“Settle down,” the teacher said, casting them a warning glance.
“Hmm...she sounds nice,” Scarlet said sarcastically.
“We’re going to write a ten page essay on quantum physics. Refer to chapter twelve,” the teacher, Mrs. Gonzales announced.
Leo and Scarlet groaned.
“I am not doing that,” Scarlet said with a sigh.
“You going to use your foxy magic?” Leo laughed.
Scarlet nodded and whispered a spell. Mrs. Gonzales jerked and shook her head.
“You know what? Never mind the essay. Let’s watch a movie,” she said slowly and walked to her desk.
Scarlet’s classmates stared at the teacher and then each other, their mouths open wide. Scarlet giggled as they started whispering furiously. Mrs. Gonzales popped in a Bill Nye movie and shut off the lights. Leo, Alec, and Scarlet leaned back in their chairs.
Leo put an arm around her shoulder and she snuggled close to him and closed her eyes. She fell into a light sleep.
Alec bit his lip and tried not to stare at Scarlet. He failed though and he found his eyes drawn to her sleeping form. Her skin was glowing gently in the dark and her hair seemed darker than light’s absence. Alec longed to run his fingers through her hair and caress her naked neck. He tried to keep from the jealousy off his face as Leo smirked at him.
Scarlet stirred and then opened her eyes. They met Alec’s and he felt a jolt of shock go through him. Her eyes were extremely bright in the harsh light of the tv and they looked to be silver instead of blue. She closed her eyes and groaned.
“Oh no,” Scarlet hissed. She opened her eyes. They were flashing from blue to green to gold over and over again.
“What’s wrong?” Alec asked.
“I need to feed. Now,” she said with a moan.
Alec bit his lip and glanced around. He whispered, “Stay still.”
He leaned forward and kissed her gently. Scarlet pressed herself against him and kissed him greedily, feeding off his life force. Alec felt his own hunger start to build and he tried to smash it down, turning his attention to kissing Scarlet instead.
She was on his lap now, kissing him roughly and running a hand over his abs. Alec could hear Leo laughing quietly and tried to ignore him. He broke the kiss and ran a hand through her hair. Scarlet blushed and looked at her hands.
“Um, sorry and thanks,” she whispered and climbed off his lap.
“Kuso,” she hissed as she heard it break.
