Music Interrupted
II: Music Interrupted
(Characters belong to me and Azathoia)
That bastard of a man Ikkaku keeps ignoring my calls… I sigh as I try again to contact him, still getting the voice mail message. Maybe I’ll just pay him a visit then. I look out the window, seeing the sun dancing in the sky. No wonder I’m so tired. Sighing again, I leave the comfort and loneliness of the apartment building, many others watching me go. Kimura should be able to make sure our newly turned vampire doesn’t get munched on. Little Scera… She’s been chasing me for years, always believing that if she caught me her father would respect her more, but now she’s become something that she was taught to hate. Funny how karma works sometimes.
Many humans watch me walking through the city, only a couple gasping as they recognize me from my days as a model, but that was decades ago and I still look the same. Maybe they can convince themselves that they have the wrong person, or that I’m simply a relative. That’s the easiest way to explain things to themselves like that. I stop momentarily at an intersection, sniffing at the air. Various scents are around me, a couple belonging to random, minor vampires. I glance across the street and spot one. She stares back at me, recognizing the family aroma on me. I am the first to turn away, returning to my current task of finding Ikkaku.
I wonder if he’s trying to hide his scent from me. It wouldn’t really matter, I could still find him in time. People continue to stare after me. I should probably dye my hair later. Older women watch me walk by and laugh to each other, commenting on ‘how much he looks like that model’. This is why I don’t often come out into the open…
I stop by a news stand for a moment, glancing down at the picture of Ikkaku on the front page. So, he’s performing tonight… I grin lightly to myself and go straight to the building where it is to be held, and am easily allowed backstage access. Spyke gave me a pass a few years ago, and so I kept it with me. It always comes in handy at times like this.

I only have to wait a few hours before I see Ikkaku’s stunned face as he comes walking up. I smile at him innocently and casually walk over. I’m certain he really is not pleased to find me here. “You need a babysitter, Ikkaku,” I whisper to him, “so I came to keep an eye on you.”
He glares at me. “I don’t need a fucking babysitter, Ereth.”
“You do and you know it.” I walk back to where I had been standing before, out of the way for the band. As they get set up and ready for their concert, a couple guys I’m not familiar with keep glancing back at me. Ikkaku says something to them and they go back to their job. Not long after that, the current comes up and they start. It’s not really my favorite kind of music, at all. If anything, dark classical music still holds my heart captive.
I boredly watch as they perform. Ikkaku does seem refreshed. He must have fed during the night. I should take care of that soon myself…
After about a half hour, my phone starts vibrating in my pocket. This should be good, I think to myself, taking it out of my pocket and answering it, walking out of the building. “Yes?”
“Ereeeeth…”
“What is it, Kimura?” She’s so strange sometimes. Many of the others keep away from her, and for good reason. After Azry is tested, we should probably send her in as well.
“Your dear older brother Maynard is off on his own in the city somewhere… He’s been killing quite a few.”
“Damn it, alright…” I hang up and go back inside, just as the curtain falls for their intermission. “Ikkaku, I might need your help.”
He frowns at me, but Spyke speaks up. “Go with him, dude. If it takes too long, we’ll just cancel the rest of the show.”
“Fine,” Ikkaku growls, obviously pissed that I would ask him for help at such an… important time. We walk outside and I hesitate. Maynard must be getting closer; I can smell the spilt blood from here now. Ikkaku can smell it too it seems. “Who the hell got off their leash?”
“This is Maynard’s doing,” I quietly tell him.
“… That’s why you need help.”
I nod and run off, following the scent of fresh blood, Ikkaku right at my heels. It takes us a while to actually find him, and when we do the sight is so grotesque. He casually looks up at us, his black hair seeming to be dyed red from all the blood covering him, a dead girl in his hand, still bleeding from her stomach. The stench of blood is so strong, if I’m not careful I could fall under its effect. I can only hope that Ikkaku won’t lose control as we approach Maynard slowly, ready for battle. I don’t like fighting family… but damn it, Maynard has gone too fucking far this time!
