Faithful companion

Arien was anxious to get in action. It had been weeks since the last raid and they had been in hiding ever since. Unlike some of the men he wasn't able to return home to hide behind a grand title. He was known enough to be recognized as one of the Riders but not high enough in the ranks to find protection. His kind retreated under a rock to wait for another attack. He got up to add tealeaves in the kettle hanging above his campfire.

He was sipping his tea when Ordys came by his tent.
“Weren’t you going to invite me for tea, lad?”
“You seemed to be busy farting about with the scum. Go ahead, help yourself.”
Ordys poured himself a cup of tea and added some whisky from his flask.
“You think we’ll make it to the Tower tomorrow?” Arien asked after the older man got seated.
“Not bloody likely, with Hatispol reading the map and all. Pity the conjurer doesn’t come all the way here to escort us there. Hidden magical tower filled with wizarding spawn. Sends chills down me spine it does.”
Ordys turned his head when there was a sound of wings flapping. Noira had returned.
She had first come to Ordys a few years ago in the Borderlands. He had been collecting firewood, an obvious chore for those low in the ranks. It was good there weren't that many things to do when camping, because otherwise his days would have been filled with tedious tasks. Noira had flown out of nowhere and sat on a rock, sizing him up with her beady eyes and probably finding him interesting since she kept coming back. Noira was a faithful companion. Sometimes when they were near to a village she brought him trinkets which he could trade in useful things.

As warned, story is a work in progress. I'm waiting for inspiration to write some conversations, scenes and flashbacks which are missing from the story. Reviews are greatly appreciated!
