Nasai
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Ahhha, would you be the youngest son of the Sennyo family?”
Nasai looked up as he was spoken too, cocking his head as he watched the men walking up to him. “Yes… I’m Nasai…” He murmured, holding the books he was carrying closer to his chest. “Who are you?” He asked, stepping back. He was suddenly nervous, a feeling of almost… dread settling across the atmosphere. There was something wrong here… he just wasn’t quite sure what it was yet. He swallowed slightly when he stepped back again, jumping slightly when his back hit the cool brick wall. They were standing in an abandoned alley, just far enough back that the shadows covered their forms.
“We know what you are… Nasai.”
“What I am?” Nasai asked, swallowing a bit. “What do you mean by that? I’m just a person…” He bit his lip slightly, looking for an escape route as the other three men advanced on his position. He knew that… none humans as they called them, were being accepted more and more but they were also still discriminated against by many. Apparently this was one of those times.
“A fairy… You’re a fairy! Don’t forget you’re a fucking monster!”
Then it all started… the abuse, the pain, the humiliation. Nasai grunted when he was slammed back against the wall, the books falling from his hands as he tried to protect himself against the three men easily twice his size. He caught a punch aimed at his head but missed the one that hit him squarely in the chest, cracking something that he wasn’t entirely sure what it was or how important it was. He was coughing up blood by then, falling to his knees when he was slammed back against the bricks again, his head hitting the wall with a sound crack.
“Come on, why don’t you do something to defend yourself fairy! Is this all your good for!?”
Nasai couldn’t stop the cry of pain when he was suddenly kicked in his stomach, his body falling to the ground. “St… stop…” He gasped out, his body trembling as he tried to get up, still coughing blood from the harsh hits to his chest. It was just then that he saw the flash of metal before he felt a sudden, slicing pain go through his chest. “No! Stop!”
They didn’t.
Drawn by the smell of blood, a shadowy figure appeared at the scene. He looked down at the boy who had clearly been left to die, kneeling beside his utterly still body. It didn’t look good for him, even if he did survive, there would definitely be irreparable damage to his body. “Poor little one… too young for this damage.” He murmured softly, reaching down to pull the almost lifeless body into his arms before he faded back into the shadows. A hospital would certainly be the order of the day.
“I need a doctor! I don’t think he’s breathing!”
The voice echoed off the walls of the emergency room, the words bringing doctors and nurses running for the small man who looked broken in his arms, his body limp against the one who held him. Nasai was breathing, barely but breathing, his heart aching each time it beat. He was hurt so badly… much worse then he thought he had been when he was left laying on the ground, the bullies running from the scene. He was shocked awake when he was suddenly set on a bed, his body jerking as he turned to his side, coughing harshly. There was blood in his lungs, the red fluid splattering across the stark white bed sheets as he fought for breath. He didn’t even notice when he was wheeled back into intensive care, his world seeming to sway and darken around him once again.
It was then that Ryota saw them; dropping the chart he had been holding and running for the room. He pushed through the nurses, his hands shaking as he reached his brothers side. “Nasai!”He was breathing heavy as he reached down, pressing his hands against his brothers bloody chest without a second thought, trying to staunch the blood flow he knew was dangerous to the younger mans life.
Nasai’s eyes were bleary as he looked up, barely recognizing his older brother. He reached up, his hand shaking as he gripped Ryota’s sleeve, smearing blood on his uniform without even thinking. “Big brother?” He whispered softly, his body shuddering when another harsh cough forced its way through his battered body. “Please… help me Ryota…”
“Of course, I’ll do everything I can.” Ryota murmured, moving along with the doctors as they led his brother to surgery. He wouldn’t leave his side, no matter what. He wouldn’t leave him.
“Nasai?” Ryota murmured as he slipped into his room, carefully closing the door behind him. It was after visiting hours but the hospital staff didn’t care, not when he worked there and his dad owned the place. Those were the perks of being the child of the hospital director.
“He’s sleeping.” The nurse murmured softly, looking up from where he was changing Nasai’s IV bag. He had lost more blood then they liked, not enough to risk his life but enough to hurt him. “It’s past visiting hours too; you’re not supposed to be in here.” He said, looking back at him. He didn’t like that he was there but he knew that he couldn’t kick him out… not the director’s son. He just didn’t want Nasai’s sleep to be interrupted, he desperately needed it.
“I know… I just had to see him, how is he doing?” Ryota asked, walking up to the other side of the bed and looked down at his brother, sighing as he reached down to hold his hand. “Will he be ok?”
The nurse just nodded, moving to pick up the chart at the end of Nasai’s bed. “He’ll be ok, he just needs to sleep and regain his energy. Your father looked after him personally so you can be assured that he had the best possible medical care.”
Ryota nodded at that, smiling a bit as he looked down at Nasai. “Thank you very much.”
Nasai sighed as he laid back against the couch, stretching out slightly. It had been a couple months since his attack and he was as healed as much as he would ever be. He sighed as he rubbed his chest, picking up the bottle of water he had grabbed out of the fridge. He was still injured… one of his lungs had been punctured and nothing his father had done had been able to heal. His stomach was also messed up, ruining his chances of ever having a child… but he was ok other then that.
His life had been thrown into turmoil but he had survived, he had learned, first hand just what discrimination was but he had lived through it. Now he was doing everything to stop it. He would fight for his kind and make everyone equal. He smiled as he turned on the news, just watching.
“And onto other news, the equality petition started by Nasai Sennyo has been accepted by the house of representatives…”
Life was definitely going to change.
