Death’s Charge

Chapter Two
Death’s Charge

The small boy clutched his head and let the black hair, his mother never cut, enshroud him from the world, as if that would hide him from the cruel earth. “God hates you, never wanted you. Fuck redemption. You are god’s unwanted child. Fuck all thoughts of damnation and so be it.” These words echoed through the dreaming ears of the small boy encircling his heart and soul as he lay in some make shift bed on the ground. He suffered and screamed internally for his mother as hatred built for that horrid father. He hated his father’s every touch, his father’s pleasure, his father’s smell, his father’s arousal, his father’s strength, but his own submission the most.

A haunted call tugs at his lone soul in the night speaking in a voice his mother used to rock him to sleep, “To the dark, far from the light of heaven and the flickering flames of hell, we beckon you to come.” Then his dream world went into darkness molding his soul while his heart and mind slept for his destiny.

Alas, his mind stirred and things that made sense diminished, as his soul fed him anger and hatred on new levels, how a four year old could understand was a mystery. He could almost see why God must hate him. His own father hated him so why not the lord, thus a child his size couldn’t achieve the concept of higher planes so it wasn’t much to dwell on. Everyone hated him but Mr. Teddy and her. She never hated him…and with that thought, he opened his fierce brown eyes to a blue light in his face.

“NOOOOO!” Throwing himself back his head slammed into the rock wall dazing the young lad severely as he began to cry as all kids do so very often at that age. His wails echoed through the cathedral scaring off few of the animals there. The blue light bounced around in front of the boy then dulled into black making a small 5in. by 5in. glass ball, a queer silver spider web decorated the in side as a red symbol of some sort lay in the center of the web. The ball lay in the boys lap softly as not to scare him.

Looking around, rubbing his eyes, and tightening his hold on his teddy bear a small whimper of, “Mommy…” slipped out his quivering mouth. The red in the orb flashed brightly startling the young one to look at it. Giggling while forgetting about needing food and his mother, he picked up the orb as soft singing filled the air calming the animals back down while it relaxed him. “Who uhr you?” He struggled to talk the way his mother taught him to while looking into the ball. Getting aggravated after no response, he threw the ball in a temper tantrum watching as it went hurling across the room only to have it burst on the opposite wall, the black was apparently liquid as it splashed all over the wall and flooring, a spider web and symbol spread out on the wall the symbol still in the middle.

The boy watched in amazement as the red glowing symbol got brighter and brighter exploding in a roar of fire scaring the boy into hiding his face into his teddy. He missed a small body with ripped deep ruby and black wings and other unnatural hybrid features fall out the fire and onto the floor in rags. In fear, the small head of the body jerked up wide eyes blinked adjusting to the lighting and smells of the place, big eyes fix on the small cowering boy and guilt passed over the pale complexion and through the dark eyes. Looking at the surroundings the wings and other appendages shimmered into invisibility. The older child stumbled over to the smaller boy as if their legs haven’t been used in a while.

Hearing noises the young one looked up and into dark blue eyes that reminded him of a woman his mother once told him was his, gweat gweat gweat gweat grandma. Brown eyes clashed with guarded sapphire ones and the young boy was first to make a move, sticking his hand out to the new person eagerly for a friend. “Hi who uhr you?” He would try hard to act the way his mother taught him.

Sapphire eyes looked over the hand as if waiting for it to hit the flesh before saying, “It’s Hi who are YOU, termite.” Moreover, the older kid poked a sharp nail at his palm. The boy cocked his head in confusion and the sapphire eyes genderless so far ‘human’ rolled its eyes and shook the boy’s hand, “Never mind, my name is Allydah Nox Libitina. So kid what’s your name? And well…age?” Allydah Nox Libitina’s sapphire eyes burned into the retinas of the smaller boy keeping his attention. “I’m Brayden and I’m four.” Throwing up a pathetic attempt of four fingers, he beamed a proud smile.

“Well Brayden…can you even say Allydah?” An arched brow gave the look of disgust seeing the dirt all over him. “AlleeDUH! So where uhr your mommy and daddy?” Brayden shuddered over his few teeth in his small mouth. “It’s Uh-Lie-Duh, Brayden…I’m not a boy and well just call me Allie then for now on. I don’t have parents I’m too old for them.” Allydah pushed her bee sting sized chest out proudly as her hands balled up on her tiny waist.

Brayden looked her over a few times taking notice in the rips and blood all over an old styled dress he’s seen on TV his mommy called a medieval taffeta and lace dress, it was simple and black even with the rips, dirt and blood. Whatever medieval and taffeta meant that is. “Evewe one needs a mommy.” Brayden reached out to touch her. Allydah smacked his hand jumping out of reach neither noticing the once shattered orb was returning to whole. “Listen you I am a hundred years old I may not look it but I am, yeah maybe I am a lot younger than most people should be but my evil mother had me imprisoned in that thing!” She pointed at the newly preserved ball that had no red in the center this time. “So I don’t need anyone else but me!” She growled defensively something about the small child unnerved her dearly.

Brayden pouted sniffling loudly and grabbed his teddy “I want my mommy” his brown eyes dilated as tears began to fill them to the brink and spilling down his dirty cheeks. Allydah frowned looking around then snatched the ball up thrusting it into the child’s hands “Um here kid, just stop crying! I don’t want to be caught already!” watching as the tears became thicker and the crying louder Allydah covered her pointed ears in vain. “I WANT MY MOMMMMMYYYYYY NOW!” His scream echoed all over the cathedral scaring all the animals into hiding not even a mouse dared to venture out as the glass ball glowed silver and a picture of his mother’s corpse appeared in the ball “MOMMY!”

Allydah’s sapphire eyes opened wide the pupil, being similar to a bold of lightening, flexed around analyzing the situation. “It actually works…for a human?!” Not concerned with the fact that the picture showed a dead body, Allydah walked around Brayden eyeing him up and down. Allydah’s body looked similar to a 12-year-old human girl, as Brayden was the perfect 4-year-old body type. She was 5’3 and he looked only about 3’2, Brayden had dull rounded ears, and she had elfishly pointed ears. Huge clue right there he was normal but his eyes said he was so much more...

Brayden hugged the ball tightly watching what he thought was his dirty sleeping mother, Allydah feeling guilty for yelling walked over to see who the boy’s mother was and gasped. “She’s dead Brayden…” His head snapped so fast looking at her with a blazing fire of rage “What did you just say?” His speech was perfectly clear, with a deep bark mixed in to it, creeping out the abnormal girl a bit more. “Brayden…your mother isn’t among the living; she’s been burnt to death…” Brayden stared deep into Allydah’s eyes searching for the truth his rage even as a small child shone brightly in his eyes like a fire tornado ready to explode.

“I want to see my mother” His lip curled in a silent snarl daring the other kid to say no to him. Shivering Allydah nodded taking the ball from him. “I’ll try later on…if someone murdered her they might be after you.” Snorting to herself like she cared for his worthless life but as long as he could make the orb of the further gates glow it was worth having the young thing around. “Just wait until I get my hands back on that grimoire.” Grinning like a mad hatter Allydah laid down on an old prayer bench as Brayden giggled running around exploring with his bear like nothing happened.
