Perfection In Lace

Chapter 1: Perfection In Lace

“When you sit in silence and all around you is dim, it’s in this time you find the knowledge that may not be heard but is seen through the eyes of another.”

-

Lillian Broderick fancied herself to be quite intelligent.

She never thought she couldn’t succeed. Her friends would call her over excessive and her family called her a prodigy.

She labeled herself as unique and one of a kind. But sometimes in her on evasive way, she called herself naïve.

She knew she was smart and had a brilliant future in store. There were just days of absolute bleakness and a disheartened Lillian would fall into a wayward spiral of abject defiance.

Her eyes didn’t twinkle with her normal fascination and her heart was often heavy with trepidation.

Life was not all she had dreamed it would be.
All the alliances she had formed appeared to be disengaging themselves.

Lillian feared it was because of her rebellious nature. She was causing havoc and the organizations she had started were dwindling. The money profit’s continued to fall below the average count.

Her escapades did not ensue any strong formations. She realized that she’d have to quit or she was going to fail at her wanted achievements. But how could see? Life seemed to deal her more than one hand. So she played both strategically. Sometimes she was reckless. But that should not cause this much of a gossip.

“Why am I such a role model?” She thought blandly to herself as she sipped her afternoon tea. The storage plans were going smoothly. But her inner intuition told her she would have several disadvantages towards the Sears project. It had been financed for only a couple of months. But the beginning was splendidly well crafted. Her father’s construction crew held her in high esteem. That was a plus. But she had a feeling they only liked her money benefits. Their plush pockets were their favorite friends.

“ It’s a futile endeavor dear,” her mom would remark “You know you could do much better in the fashion industry.” Lillian grimaced. She knew how to do hair very nicely.
However she liked the work. Her interests lie in chemistry and construction and swordplay. She outranked many scholars in her area. “ Lillian dear!” squeaked her inebriated sister. “ You are the most swwww-eell sister around.” Lillian smiled affectionately towards her younger sister Christine. Christine had her own problems.
She drank like a fish. And was only in her freshmen year at college. “ Chris, you must clean yourself up before papa sees you in this state. He abhors a drunkard.” Lillian said softly. Christine blinked and smiled groggily. “ Ah sis you misjudge me again. I’m only slightly drunk tonight. This is mostly from lack of sleep.” Christine said smugly. And just before Lillian could put a word in edge wise, she passed out.

“ Oh no… Chris! This will not do!” Lillian vehemently proclaimed as she poured herself another glass of tea. Christine snored loudly. Lillian suppressed a laugh. Her sister was just like her. They both had many duty’s to fulfill.

And they also seemed to have an addiction. Christine’s was alcohol. Lillian’s was smoking cigarettes.

“How am I going to explain this mess to your father!” barked Lillian’s And Christians mother. “ He will surely be sour and want to disable your sister’s funds for a good 6 months.” Lillian frowned at her mother’s last words. “ But father has never done that to either of us mom.” She replied dutifully. Her mother lifted her face and shrugged her shoulders casually. “ You father will do what he sees fit.” Lillian looked closely at her mother. Mrs. Caitlin Broderick was a tough woman. She dealt with their father’s temper smashingly.

Lillian used to admire her when she was a child. Her never-ending patience was outstanding. The way she kept the house in order was formidable. Always the one to
complain over a spilt juice or a spot on the carpet. She never ceased to discipline her daughters into high rank misses. Lillian And Christine were the youngest two of four children. First there was Jasmine and then Derrick and then came Lillian and last came Christine. Derrick always was pestering towards the girls.

He loved to pull hair and mock and torment. However as the second oldest he had matured into a fine man. Lillian and him were very close. He spoke of her to his entire group of friend’s. Lillian loved him but sometimes disliked his ambitions. She liked being single and in control of her own life.
She set her own standards and goals. She didn’t need some jealous and predatory man at her heels.

She had fallen before. It was not all that it should have been. His name was Brice. He was 20 while she was 18. He treated her like a goddess. Everything he could offer he would give. Lillian thought he was buying her. She couldn’t handle how he would always spend his hard earned money on her. She had everything she wanted. But she failed to realize they were just gift’s. He had planned to propose. She thought now she would have declined. But she still had feelings for him. She lost contact however. It was as if he up and disappeared. Christine told her that she asked around and found no context clue. Lillian sighed and looked at her hand. He had kissed it many times. Said it was only proper. Lillian felt flummoxed every time he did.

She had seen all these other girls make out and kiss sloppily. She thought that was what love was about. She was wrong. Brice called her one last time 3 years before. He told her she would mature into a lovely woman. And maybe one day they’d reconnect. Lillian doubted that seriously. “Lillian why are you so quiet today? You have spoken so little. I’m starting to get worried.” Commented her mother. Lillian frowned petulantly. “ Why can’t I just be quiet every now and then mum? I like to think to myself just like everyone else you know. Papa does it quite often. It’s a good remedy to clear the mind.” Lillian replied sweetly.

Her mother tilted her head and smiled delicately. “ Yes but dear you had a rather depressing look on your face. Might I inquire as to what or whom you were thinking of?” Lillian shook her head and stood. “ Mom sometimes I wish you’d worry more about yourself than you do me. You know I’m fine. I’m careless yes, but I do know how to handle my own ordeals quite handsomely.” Lillian said caustically. Caitlin stood and walked towards her second oldest daughter. “ Lillian you know its just part of my nurturing nature as a mother. Someday you will understand. And when that day comes you’ll remember my thoughtfulness.” She wrapped her arms around Lillian and kissed her forehead. Lillian closed her eyes and leaned into the embrace. She had missed her mother’s hugs and kisses. “ I certainly will mum, and I also will thank you for the kindness and love you have given me throughout the years.”

* Chapter Added. Hope you liked this short chapter. The rest will be very long. Any ideas on format? I need some help in that area. I worked on word. So I'm not formally introduced to special formats quite yet. *
