My hunters

Something has been taken from deep inside of me…
the secret I've kept locked away no one can ever see…

New York, USA
Severin’s Apartment, 11 Jan, 3 am, 2005
Insomnia. It does not suit me. As I gazed into the pale reflection looking back at me from the bathroom mirror, I decided not sleeping adds to my already ghostly appearance. I’ve taken half a dozen sleeping pills, but nothing helps. Maybe this is preferable to having nightmares every time I close my eyes. I splashed cold water on my face, hoping to get rid of the tiredness engraved on my features.
I wanted peace. Why couldn’t they give me that? What happened just a few hours ago only proved my fears that maybe I’ve done something wrong. Luca got hurt because of me, but there is not much I can do about that. He had already caught their attention.
I walked to my computer station and looked at the security cameras showing my street and the surrounding area. Luca always says I am obsessed with security. Yes, I am obsessed with the idea that sooner or later, they will decide my free days are over and take me back. I couldn’t go back there, not now, not ever. I had to make a choice. Leave the city and my friends, or stay, tell them the truth, and hope that I will still be able to call them my friends when it’s over. We haven’t known each other for long, only two years, but the fact that we all had some sort of abnormal power connected us first.
I find it strange that one month after I met Luca, I met the others too. All in one day.
I met Kai in the restaurant he was working at, waiting for Luca to show up for lunch. Kai was at the bar area, and I could not help but notice him, with him being an albino. He was shorter than me with short, white wavy hair that fitted perfectly around his cherubic face. The bar was right by the doors, and everyone who came in, stared at him in wonder. I felt that he was displayed there like a shiny toy in a new store to attract kids’ attention. Luca was late like always, and I had nothing better to do than order something. While the other bartender was making my drink, I noticed Kai arguing with his manager, or rather, trying not to. They were at the far end of the bar, and I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Then suddenly, the double doors of the restaurant burst open as a swirl of strong wind came and shattered every single glass and bottle in the bar. The rest of the restaurant was untouched, and the customers were more shocked than scared. Kai stormed out of the restaurant with his manager shouting after him. After I witnessed Luca’s power in that car race, I was relieved that there was another one like us. Just seconds after Kai left, Luca showed up and said, surprised:
“I missed the fight, didn’t I?” taking in the demolished bar area.
“There was no fight. Let’s go. You should have seen what this guy did. if we hurry, we can catch him. He is like us,” I said and Luca was genuinely surprised at my statement.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yes! Let’s go!”
“This better be worth it, because I am really hungry.” I practically dragged him out of the restaurant. We managed to catch up with Kai, slowing our car to talk to him. He probably thought we were crazy, at first, but he agreed to talk in a nearby cafe. He didn’t have a choice then, other than to believe us. So up until this point in time, I knew Luca controlled Fire and Kai controlled Air. Later that day, I met Water and Earth, under the most unusual circumstances.
After Kai and Luca hit it off so well, Kai asked us to go see a circus, which was set up in the rural part of New York. He said it was there for the summer, and his friends held summer jobs there, giving him free passed.
“To a circus? Seriously?” Luca stated when Kai left, promising to meet up with us a few hours later.
“Yeah, I heard they sell cotton candy. I’ll get you some,” I joked, sitting on a couch in his bedroom.
“Stop kidding me. Can’t we go to a bar or a casino or something that doesn’t involve a lot of screaming little kids?”
“Why? You know when I said he is like us, I didn’t mean he particularly liked the same things. He might not enjoy what we do. Look at it this way, go tonight with him to the circus or sit around wondering when you are going to see him next,” I hinted.
“I will not wonder! Now...what on earth is proper to wear befitting a circus visit?” he wondered out loud when he opened his massive wardrobe.
“I am sure whatever you wear, he will like you.”
“What?”
“Oh, come on. You couldn’t take your eyes off him all day,” I teased.
“Yeah, well that’s only to be expected with the way he looks. I’ve just never seen an albino before. Aren’t albinos’ eyes supposed to be red?”
“Maybe, but we’ve already established that he is not an ordinary albino, and that you like him, of course.”
“I do not like him! So he is androgynous and looks better than my last girlfriend, so what?”
“No comment.” I laughed.
As the evening came, we met Kai at the circus and he took us around the back of the circus to meet his friends and get the free passes. Apparently this is where they kept all the animals, as Luca and I were a bit reluctant to follow when we saw that one friend of his was training lions with a whip. All the other wild, dangerous animals from the cat clan were walking around rather than not locked in cages like we expected them to be.
His friend introduced himself as Felix Brunel. He was a tall and muscular mulatto with shoulder length curly black hair.
“So you are like us?” he asked.
“Like you?” Luca asked, pretending he did not understand.
“Special,” he said and smiled as he petted the lion on the head while the big cat yawned and licked his hand.
“That definition sounds dodgy to me,” Luca said.
“Kai?” Felix turned to Kai with a frown.
“They are the ones that started talking to me first. They said they have powers.”
“Then prove it!” Felix said, suddenly angry. “Fire, right?” he asked Luca as he went into one of the bungalows nearby and came out with a metal rod.
He pushed it in Luca’s hands and lit it. “There is very little paraffin oil on it. Less than there usually is for the fire breathers. The flame should extend no more than a few centimeters. You better make it look good,” he explained. “Now blow.”
“Excuse me?” Luca asked in amazement. “I don’t think so.” He tossed the metal rod back to Felix.
“Prove you have power, and you haven’t been talking bullshit to Kai. If this is all just a joke, I will be very angry,” he said seemingly calm, unlike the big cats around him, who started growling and showing perfectly sharp, white teeth.
“You better do it. I don’t feel like dying on my first circus visit. It’s too banal,” I said to him, trying to lighten the mood.
“Fine! But I am not responsible for any damage,” he warned as he took back the rod from Felix. In less than a second, the hot blaze illuminated the sky above us. Smoldering heat radiated with such force from Luca that we had to step away from him. The flames lingered above us, streaking and spreading across the whole sky, like fiery northern lights.
“You can stop now! You proved your point,” Felix said, nervously.
“No, you made me prove it.” Luca smirked as he lowered the metal rod from his lips.
“Kai!”- a tall dark figure shouted as it barreled toward us with long strides. As he came into the light, I noticed he had the most startling appearance of the three. His short light blue hair stuck out in all directions, but it oddly suited him. His bright blue eyes looked weary, as if he hadn’t slept properly for days.
“This is Oasis” Kai introduced him. “Did anyone see that?” he asked.
“Of course. Everyone is asking where it is coming from,” Oasis said irritated, completely ignoring us.
“Don’t worry. They probably just think that it’s part of the show,” Kai explained.
“I need to talk to you. Now!” Oasis retorted, dragging Kai away.
“His power is water,” Felix explained. “He is always moody, so don’t mind him.”
“This is too bizarre,” Luca said. “You haven’t told us what your power is yet, but I can already guess. If he is water, Kai is air and I am fire, you must be earth.”
“Bingo.”
“So what now?” Luca asked, as if expecting someone to answer the meaning of life.
“Now, it’s show time.” Felix smirked. With one motion of his hand, all the animals were lined up neatly like soldiers and marched into the circus ring. I was worried and excited in the same time. Worried because I knew the moment the show was over I would be next to demonstrate my power and excited because…well because I finally could relate to someone.
The show they put on was more than spectacular. Every act was unique, but Oasis and Felix stood out the most. By the end, all little kids were convinced they have witnessed real magic. Felix’s performance included all sorts of animals and three flowers put in vases around the circle arena, which grew fast, creating nothing short of a jungle imitation. From simple lilies and roses he created massive flower plants, which reacted to touch, if the audience members in the front rows dared to touch them.
Oasis’s act was even stranger. A massive aquarium with sharks was placed in the middle of the ring. Oasis climbed up a ladder and dived in. Three big metals loops were lowered near the aquarium and the sharks shot straight up going through them. The finishing touch was when the glass container that he was in, was broken from the staff. As the glass fell to pieces, the water inside remained in the same rectangular form. Oasis walked out of the liquid, smiling brightly as rain started to fall from underneath the ceiling aiming for the ring where he stood rather than the audience.
When the moment of truth came, we were all sitting in Felix’s bungalow because it started pouring after the show.
“Oasis stop it,” Felix warned, as another clap of thunder sounded. “I don’t understand why you are so angry? If Kai wasn’t sure they were telling the truth, he wouldn’t have told them about us. Right?” Felix turned to Kai, who fidgeted nervously on the small coach.
“Yes, I trust them. I am sorry I didn’t ask you first. I was too rash. I am sorry, now please stop the rain or at least the thunder. You know I can’t stand it.”
“That’s why he is doing it,” Felix said, looking at Oasis, who hadn’t spoken a word to anyone since the show ended. “Stop it, now!” Felix yelled as something shook the whole bungalow.
“Was that an earthquake?” I asked, watching the lamp in the ceiling sway gently as several car alarms went off outside.
“Only level three on the Richter scale, but I can increase it if he likes,” Felix warned, menacingly. The rain decreased to a light drizzle.
“That’s better,” Felix sat back down on his chair. “Where were we? Ah, yes. You,” he said, turning to me.
“You know the sayings, the four elements and the fifth one is soul, love, energy whatever you want to call it. Is that what you are?” insisted Oasis.
I didn’t what to answer. I couldn’t tell the truth to people I just met, even if they had powers like mine. I couldn’t tell Luca, who I’d known for awhile before them. If I tell them I don’t have a power, they might get scared.
“So are you the fifth element?” Oasis spoke directly to me for the first time.
“Does it matter? Would you be mad if I am not?” I asked.
“Does it matter?” Oasis asked. “I don’t believe us meeting was a coincidence. Nothing in this god damn life is a coincidence. If you are normal, what do you want from us? Will you tell?”
“Tell who?” I asked.
“Severin is not going to tell anyone anything. I’ve been friends with him for awhile, and I trust him.” Luca defended me. I was glad he didn’t give me away.
“I honestly don’t see how you fit in the picture,” Oasis rebutted.
“Can you be any ruder?” Kai asked, “this is supposed to be a happy occasion that we’ve met people like us. Not a declaration of war.”
“You mean, a person. People implies more than one,” he told to Kai as he turned back to me. “Who are you and how do you connect to all of this?”
“Who the fuck do you think you are to talk to us like that?” Luca exploded. “You ignore us, don’t talk to us, and then you attack us for trying to get to know you, because for some god forsaken reason we all have elemental powers. I’ve never believed much in faith and all that bullshit, but even I can’t pass this one off as a chance meeting like you said. Unless you know another dozen people like us, then I will pass it off as coming across a freak show and get on with my life. Because I can tell you now, that the only thing that connects us is our powers, otherwise believe me, we are worlds apart.” He stormed out of the bungalow. I followed suit, still a bit stunned that he actually stood up for me. We were just about to get in the car when we heard Kai shouting over the rain.
“Please give us another chance!” he asked as he looked at Luca. “Please? Oasis is not that bad. We want to get to know you too.” Luca didn’t respond straight away; they were too close to each other for comfort. For a moment, I thought they either were about to kiss or were having a staring contest. But knowing Luca, he was probably trying to decide whether he wanted to believe Kai or not. Felix walked into the picture and immediately broke Luca’s trance-like state.
“Fine,” he said, “but this time, on my territory. Meet us at Seraphim casino. At ten p.m. Don’t be late.”
“In that casino? Do you know how much money you have to have to even walk in there?” Felix stated incredulously.
“Not if you are with someone that has it. Now, I wish you a good evening, and I hope today was as exciting for you as it was for us,” he said, but his voice had a sarcastic edge to it. As we drove off in Luca’s car, I noticed his eyes were too long on the review mirror rather than the road in front of us. I looked at the side mirror and saw that Felix had put his arm around Kai, shielding him from the rain as they walked back to the bungalow.
“Maybe we should have offered to drive him home,” he said quietly.
“No, you just want to know where he lives,” I teased.
“And that. No! Not that! Stop confusing me.”
“Well, excuse me for stating the obvious. I’ll shut up and leave you to your confused thoughts. Feel free to share, I am always up for a laugh. ”
That is how we met. Too sudden and unexpected. So abrupt that Luca and I didn’t know what to make of it. I could tell, even without asking him, that he was worried about the prospect of other people with special powers. For me, that meant more relations, but for him, it meant competition. Not to mention he hated associating with people below his social status. I walked back into my bedroom to get the phone and dialed Luca’s number.
Kai White’s apartment, 3 am
The light stream from the full moon seeped through the wide open window, casting long hoary shadows over the moving shadows on the bed. The cool breeze that drifted in made their hot, sweaty bodies tingle as Kai moaned softly into the pillow. Feeling the strong, taut body penetrating him with controlled almost lazy thrusts, he pushed back with vigor.
He gasped, feeling Luca’s hand slide over his left thigh, the hot palm trailed slowly upwards, stopping near his arousal. When the lack of friction between his legs became frustrating, Kai tried to sneak his hand around his throbbing member, but his wrist was caught by Luca’s vice grip, restricting his movements
An agonized groan slipped past his plump lips as the skin on his wrist heated painfully.
“Stop it!” He cried out, but his plea fell to deaf ears, as his lover pivoted his hips just right, and the heat that filled him triggered his own release.
“Let me go, you’re burning me!” Kai cried, struggling to pull his hand free of the red head’s clutch. “Luca!” the name coated with pain, brought the red head out of his trance. He released his grip, leaving a bloodied wrist on its wake.
“I…” Luca started as he saw the damage he had done, but he was interrupted by a loud ringing noise. With a growl, Luca grabbed his phone from the bedside table.
“You always have perfect timing,” he said in the speaker, as he allowed Kai to crawl out from underneath him and leave for the bathroom.
“Am I interrupting something?” Severin’s voice asked on the other line.
“No. Actually, I was just finishing,” he said, sighing as he got off the bed and started dressing. He had to leave before Kai returned from the bathroom.
“Where are you?”
“Kai’s apartment.”
“Oh, sorry.”
“What for? Like I said, I was just finishing.”
“That just sounds wrong,” Severin said with a chuckle.
“Well, you asked,” Luca retorted, as he made his way to his car. “What is the matter? Can’t sleep again?” he asked.
“Unfortunately.”
“Well, I can barely keep my eyes open. If I want to function properly tomorrow, I will have to sleep what little hours are left of the night,” Luca said. “When are you picking up Oasis from the train station?”
“This morning on our lunch break with Kai.”
“Okay, then we’ll see you at the college in the afternoon. Meanwhile, you better think how the hell you are going to explain what happened with those agents. Kai couldn’t stop asking me questions tonight about you. It’s only natural, he hasn’t seen anything like it. He said you were physically dead when I brought you in. That your heart didn’t beat.”
“Is he going to tell the others?” asked Severin, after a moment of silence.
“I persuaded him not to, until you tell him what’s happening to you.”
“I will talk to him tomorrow.”
“Just to him? What about me? Don’t I deserve an explanation?” Luca asked angrily.
“You deserve the truth, but what I will tell him won’t be that. I’ll see you tomorrow,” was said before the other line went dead.
Severin was upset, Luca was sure. However, he tried not to feel guilty about it, and instead he planned to focus on something else that was troubling him, like Kai’s damaged wrist. He hadn’t meant to hurt him. He just wanted to keep him still, but his excitement got the best of him. He let his power slip through his fingers. He should have apologized-he really should have-but he didn’t. No. That would make him sound as if he actually cared.
New York Train Station
12 Jan, 12.30 pm, 2005
Oasis dreamt a rather unpleasant dream.. A dream of a misfortune, he had experienced when he was very young. It was 1985, and he was thirteen.
“Trevor! Trevor!“ Oasis shouted as he looked for his lost pet in the vast sea side.
“Oasis! Don’t go in the water. You can’t swim well enough yet!” his mother cautioned.
“But Trevor can’t swim well either. He is still so little. I’ll be right back mum. Don’t worry.”
“He is a dog. Of course he can swim,” his mother chuckled, her bright blond hair shining in the sun.
“No, he can’t!” he insisted, “he doesn’t like the water.”
“Alright then, but don’t be long. We have to leave soon. Your father is coming home from his business trip today,” she said as she adjusted the umbrella over her head.
“Yeah, yeah, be right back!” he said, irritation obvious in his voice. He didn’t see the point of going back home early just because his father was coming home from work. It was true that they did not see him much, but Oasis felt that they were better off without him. He only made his mother cry and criticized him. No, he wasn’t nice like his friends’ fathers. He was downright horrible.
“Trevor, you stupid dog! Get back here!” Oasis shouted as he entered the cool water and began to swim after his pet, but the more he swam the more he lost sight of Trevor, until the puppy disappeared from view.
“Trevor!” he shouted hysterically, swimming further and further away from the beach until he could no longer hear people’s voices.
Suddenly, something slick wrapped tightly around his ankle and dragged him under water. He barely managed to take a breath.
Down and down he went, feeling his consciousness slipping. He found himself in the middle of a horde of jellyfish. Their emerald glow illuminated his surroundings as they closed in on him. Oasis panicked. His lungs throbbed painfully as he tried in vain to hold the air in. The only option left was to try and reach the surface while he still had some air in his lungs, but it was pitch black outside the jellyfish’s circle.
As he touched the ground under the dark waves nearly unconscious, the water disappeared as air and sunlight made their way from above. The water split around him, forming a canyon. Oasis looked up and could see just how far away from the surface he was; the water walls were at least fifty feet high, and they didn’t look stable - wavering as if they might fall apart at any moment. He noticed hundreds of sea creatures lined up and pressing against the barrier, staring at him.
He ignored them and did the only sensible thing that he could - he ran as fast as his feet could carry him towards the direction of the beach sprawled some distance away.
As the water wavered at his sides fear gripped his heart. What if something had happened to his mother on the beach? Looking to the side, he noticed the sea animals disappeared and lifeless bodies were floating past him. Hundreds of them. He tried to ignore them too. Only after his feet touched the grainy sand, did the water descend behind him. His trembling voice echoed as he called for his mother, although he could not see anyone on the beach. The landscape wasn't just devoid of people - there was nothing at all. Oasis looked around, and for miles on end, there wasn’t a single person. Not a single blemish. It seemed as if the beach had been reborn, and nobody had ventured onto it yet.
As if the ocean had washed out its polluted borders, he stood in the new wasteland, confused, sad, and utterly alone.
“The next station is New York Central. Please make sure you take all your personal belongings with you,” a female voice droned, bringing him out of his dream. He got up groggily and made his way to the platform.
“Is that him?” Kai asked me as he pointed towards a guy just stepping onto the platform. He was wearing a marine corps uniform.
“It can’t be…” I stammered, observing his appearance. Oasis would never in a million years wear any kind of uniform, or so I thought. The blue highlights were also gone from his hair.
“Yes, yes. It’s him,” Kai said with certainty, as he waved. Seeing us, Oasis made his way in our direction.
“So…what happened to you?” I asked “What’s with the uniform?”
“Don’t ask. My dad made me wear it. Not to mention the hair as you’ve probably noticed.”
“It looks like you’ve put up quite a fight,” Kai observed, and Oasis tilted his chin to give us a good look at his bruise.
“Oh, that’s nothing. You should see the rest of my body,” he muttered.
“Don’t tell me you got into a fight with your dad again,” Kai said with sigh a as we made our way to my car.
“We always get in fights, but that’s not from him. That is from his bloody soldier boys.” He didn’t like talking about his dad, if he could avoid it. We all knew the two main facts about Oasis’s father: he was the head of the US Marine Forces and he didn’t like the fact that Oasis was gay.
“Didn’t your dad do anything?” Kai asked incredulously.
“No. In fact, I am pretty sure he let it slip that I am gay. Well, you can imagine the rest from there, as I had a room with five guys that are not very tolerant. And when he did find out, all he did was say that a bit of roughing up will do me good. That was the worst two weeks of my life.”
“It couldn’t have been that bad,” Kai said sympathetically.
“It was that bad. From day one. And what’s worse he had the nerve to give me a deadline- a freaking deadline by which I have to find a girlfriend. If he was a normal dad, I could have just run away anywhere in the world where he couldn’t find me, but no, he is from the fucking US Marines. He can find me anywhere. I am just so happy to be back.”
“Forget about your dad,” I said. “You are not going to see him for another year or so right?”
“Right…” he muttered, unsure.
“You prediction came true,” I said, even though Luca warned me to put off talking about it until we all meet later today. I just wanted to take his mind off the past couple of weeks spent with his dad.
“Yes, Kai mentioned it on the phone, but he didn’t tell me any details,” Oasis replied with his usual enthusiasm evident in his voice.
“Well, details have to wait until we meet Luca and Felix a bit later,” I replied.
“Oh come on! Can’t you tell me now?”
“Nope. I had specific orders.” I smirked.
“From Luca no doubt,” he said with suspicion.
“Yes.”
“Well, he is not the leader of our little group so…”
“It’s best if we discuss this when we are all together.” I was already sorry that I mentioned it. He wasn’t going to let it go. So, I tried to draw his attention to Kai.
“What happened to your wrist?” I asked casually, even though I noticed his bandaged hand in class this morning.
“Oh…its nothing. Just burned myself on the stove.” He was a terrible lair. That’s one of the things I liked about him.
“Yeah, right,” Oasis snorted. “Luca did this to you didn’t he?”
“No! It was not his fault.”
“When are you going to leave him? You’ve been his toy for the past two years. You know he doesn’t give a shit about you,” Oasis insisted.
“That’s not true!” he raged.
“It is! Severin,” he addressed me. “You are closer to Luca than any of us. Enlighten us. Has he mentioned anything about his feelings for Kai?” His voice was laced with sarcasm.
“He never wants to talk about it,” I said truthfully.
“Did you hear that, Kai? He never wants to talk about it. Silence is indifference, if you ask me. We are trying to help you. Both Severin and I think you should dump him. I know he is hot and rich and all that, but he is bad for your health- to put it lightly.” I could not believe Oasis put me in the picture like that. Not that I disagreed. I just preferred not to vocalize it.
“Leave him. Or we are going to do what is best for you and tell Felix. He’ll sort you out.” Oasis played his trump card.
“No! You can’t!” Kai exclaimed.
“Yes, we can. He is already suspicious you are seeing someone and you are not telling him,” Oasis said.
“How do you know that?” Kai and I asked at the same time.
“Because he told me,” Oasis explained. “He is very disappointed that you don’t trust him, but instead choose to sneak behind his back. You guys have been friends since first grade, and you should know by now that he doesn’t care that you like guys. And, let’s face it; he is the only one that can talk you out of your little affair with Luca.”
“If Felix doesn’t kill Luca first,” I added
“Yeah…and there is that as well.” Oasis laughed. Felix liked Luca, but he was very protective of Kai, and he wouldn’t approve.
Half an hour later, we were back in St Gabriel’s College, sitting on the outside benches near the cafeteria.
“Come on! Tell me what happened,” Oasis prodded eagerly. Luca answered a bit too quickly:
“Well, long story short. The agents chased us with guns, and while I was busy crashing into a huge truck, the N.B.K were captured by the police.”
“By the police? But I thought the police had no control over them, or so it says in the newspapers,” Felix wondered.
“It’s true. They don’t, but they weren’t uniformed. So, as far the cops were concerned, they were just men with guns. But I am sure Severin can shed some more light on their behavior,” Luca said.
“They are not what the media make them out to be. They are not criminals working for the government- nothing fancy like that. It’s very simple actually, they are psychopaths.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Kai asked.
“I don’t know how to explain it, but let me tell you this. If they undergo a psychology test, they are all qualified to be put in strait jackets and carted off to the mental institution.”
“You are kidding! And people like that are above the law?” Felix was apprehensive.
“We live in a mad world. I am not surprised; it kind of makes sense, after some of things I heard they’ve done,” Luca agreed.
“No, it doesn’t make sense! It doesn’t make sense how the government turns a blind eye to all the accusations against the N.B.K,” Oasis argued. “Every other federal organization hates them because they get away with things- things unheard of in everyone else’s case. How can they get away with stripping people of their human rights? They arrest someone, and it doesn’t matter if the person is guilty or not. They still don’t have the chance for a trial,” Oasis explained.
“That’s because they don’t make mistakes,” I said. “If they arrest someone, then that means the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Even without providing evidence for the rest of the world.”
“And then what happens to them after that? They just disappear never to be heard of again,” Oasis asked me.
“I don’t know what happens,” I lied. I knew what happened. They die.
“If those are the agents that were after you last night, I suggest we disappear ourselves,” Felix said, staring to our left and stood up. Ah yes, they found us. They were uniformed, which meant that if we tried to run away, they had the right to shoot us on sight.
“Sit down,” Luca hissed. “Just pretend you don’t see them. They can’t possibly start shooting in a school.” As they approached us, every student outside had their eyes on them. The average person didn’t get to see them often in real life.
“Hello again,” the agent next to Ramses said- the one I couldn’t see that night. “Sorry about last night, but you should have stopped when we told you to. Then we wouldn’t have to have this conversation. Now get up and come with us, and most importantly, don’t make a scene.” His carefree tone, unnerved me.
to be continue...
