Chapter Two

“No.”

“Why not? It’s not like you’re a virgin. Or at least, you’re not anymore.”

Leilani was close to committing murder. Robin was following her all the way to her car, true to form, and not bothering to find cover in the bushes when a random car happened by. He’d been solicited once, and to get back at her for refusing to fuck him in the middle of the road, he’d replied each time that he was with his girlfriend, heading off to a nudist convention.

God, she hated him. His latest commentary had her blushing to the roots of her hair, and sputtering.

“For your information, there were guys before you, and as soon as I find a place to dump you, there will be guys after you too!” she snarled, covering her breasts, and continuing in the direction of her car. Praying that her bout of bad luck was over, Leilani rounded the corner, sweating. The battered car winked at her from a distance, and she pumped a fist in the air in triumph.

“I like your ass,” Robin commented seductively from behind her. Leilani choked, and pushed him, stomping toward her vehicle. “You know that only makes the view that much better, right?” His laughter echoed after her as she ran towards the pickup, with the extra water in the bed, and the soap, and her clothes. Robin kept pace with her easily, standing over her as she rinsed the dirt, grime, sweat and cum off of herself with the Poland spring water from the cooler, and scrubbed in the middle of the road. He did likewise, and Leilani didn’t even want to think of how much water they were wasting. When she was sufficiently clean, she grabbed the duffel bags with her clothes from the bed of the pickup, and got dressed. She grudgingly lent Robin some of her greatly oversized sweatpants and a t-shirt to tide him over until they reached his car as well.

“Couldn’t someone have stolen your things if you left them on the truck all night?” he asked, frowning at the clothes that were too small and tight to be comfortable.

“Well, unlike someone else, my plan was to get help, and then to get back to the car. I was sufficiently distracted last night, wasn’t I?” she growled, eyes blazing. Robin tweaked her nose.

“You certainly are an adorable little bitch, aren’t you?” he murmured, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

“If you don’t stop calling me a bitch, I am going to break my foot off in your ass,” she replied, running a brush through her thick hair. Cursing the day she’d decided to grow it long, she struggled to pick the dirt out of the ends of her hair. It reached all the way to the middle of her back, and she had no idea when she would be done getting the crap out of it. Sweat glinted off of her caramel skin in the heat of the sun, and dark eyes looked hatefully up at the cause of her stress, who was calmly leaning against the car, inspecting his nails.

“We need to get into the car,” she hedged, trying to think of a way to get to the rest of her things. “My purse, phone, and itinerary are in there.”

“Shit, you’ve got an itinerary? That’s important.” He muttered, rolling his eyes.

“Well, the car isn’t going to restart, so why don’t you just break the window with that demon strength?” she sighed, hating to see her father’s work going to waste like this. However, it was his fault that he was cheap, and wouldn’t help her out with the down payment for a newer car. Only a few seconds after she had spoken, the crash of breaking glass shattered the silence of the road, and Leilani squeaked in surprise. Yanking open the door, he climbed into the car, and tossed her her purse, and cell phone. Leilani walked around to the other side of the car, and dug in her glove compartment, removing the few items she needed, and shoving them in her purse. She went to the back to grab her duffel bag, but Robin had beaten her to it, and was also toting her cooler.

It was actually a little… sweet. Wait, no, Leilani shook her head. She hadn’t actually thought that he was sweet. No. No way.

“Let’s go, I’m not your pack mule,” he grumbled, shattering her image. Yes. That wasn’t sweet at all.

“Alright. I’m going to call Triple A.” Robin was still mumbling snottily beside her as they walked back toward the motel. After ten minutes of silent walking, they heard the sirens coming from the motel parking lot. Robin’s car was still untouched in the lot, and they walked over to it as inconspicuously as possible. Loading their things quickly into the back, they got into the car, and pulled out.

“Wait! Your clothes are still in the room!” Leilani gasped. “What if they trace it back to you? Or me?”

“Relax. My clothes aren’t there anymore.” Robin replied, shushing her with a finger against her lips. Leilani stared up at him. Even when he wasn’t a furry monster, he was still a great deal taller than she was.

“What do you mean they aren’t still there?” she asked suspiciously, climbing into the passenger side seat of his huge black SUV. “Don’t tell me someone already got to them!” she panicked. “You didn’t kill anyone, right? Tell me you didn’t kill anyone!” Robin rolled his eyes at her outburst, and glared at her.

“Would you shut up, bitch? If I killed anyone, they’d be dragging the bodies out. No one is dead, you are way too irritating for your own good.” Leilani narrowed her eyes at him.

“Well excuse me.” She huffed, folding her arms over her chest.

“The clothes are already gone, because one of the Clean-up crew probably already got to them this morning.” He replied, restarting the car on the road, and beginning the drive away from the dingy little motel.

“Clean-up crew?”

“Yeah. Whenever there’s an accident and we’ve got to cover someone’s—or something’s—trail, there’s a team of special ops that runs through, and clears it up. My clothes are most likely gone.” Leilani’s mouth hung open, and her eyes were wide. There were more of them? And how many cover-ups like this had there been all over the world? So people like Robin went insane on the full moon, and instead of fixing it—fixingthem, they just covered it up, cleaned up the mess, and let the stupid ignorant normal people go on about their business?

“How many times does this happen?” she asked, eyes on the road.

“Couple of times a year. Usually we have to travel to a Shelter, but there wasn’t any time last night. Think of it this way, if my cock hadn’t been in you, both it and I would have been elsewhere, killing someone.”

“If you are trying to make me feel better, you are doing a really shitty job.”

“Whatever. The point is, now you are in on the secret, and you have to stick with me.”

“Whoa, whoa, wait, stick with you? You are dropping me off at my cousins’ house, and then I will never see you again. That’s what we’re going to do. I’m not in on anything!” she seethed, crossing her arms resolutely across her chest. She wasn’t going anywhere with him! Except for, you know, right at the moment. “I am not, I repeat, not, going anywhere with you. I don’t know anything about you, or where we’re going, or anything. You are dropping me off, and that’s the end of it!”

“I can’t. Unless you stay with me, as irritating as you are, you’ll be killed for what you know. And honestly, you’ve got the tightest pussy I’ve ever fucked, I don’t think I want you to die,” he responded, ignoring the look of absolute hatred that she was giving him. “Besides, won’t you want to look back, and tell everyone that you had the guts to get in the car?”

“Oh, quoting ‘Transformers’ is so not going to help you, you ass; I am already in the car! If you won’t drop me off, I am getting out of this car now!” Robin locked the doors. In retrospect, announcing that she was going to duck out of his car was probably not the best idea. “If I don’t get to my family, they are going to come looking for me. This is kidnapping!”

“Shut up, you irritating little—”

“Watch it.”

“No one is kidnapping you. We are all the unfortunate victims of circumstance. If I can just get back to my pack, I’ll se what we can do about you. I mean, my Alpha’s got to decide what we’re going to do with you.”

“What do you mean ‘do with me’? What’s the worst that could happen?”

“You could be killed.”

“Best case scenario?”

“You stick around.”

“Oh, you are so incredibly descriptive and helpful, Robin. You really are.”

“I know right?”

Leilani refused to answer him, instead, choosing to stare crestfallen out of the window. When they stopped for gas, she was still not speaking to him, and Robin had given up trying to incense her. Or, at least, she hoped so. The car ride was long and silent, and as the sun moved across the sky, and the car burned gas, Leilani felt her eyelids starting to droop. However, she aroused her anger at the driver, and each time this kept her from falling into a deep exhausted sleep. The sky was almost completely dark now, and stars were beginning to show when one Robin swallowed his pride to speak. Leilani tried not to look triumphant.

“What town does your cousin live in? Maybe we can check in, and then leave,” he suggested, running a hand through his hair. “We can’t stay very long. Word has probably reached my pack about… the incident, and it could be messy if they come looking for us.”

“Are you trying to compromise with me?” she asked, still not looking at him. Robin hit the breaks, and Leilani was thrown forward. The seatbelt cut sharply into her chest, forcing the breath out of her lungs. Again, Robin earned himself another hate-filled glare. “Are you insane? What the fuck are you doing?” she gasped; rubbing the spot on her chest that she was sure was going to be sore in a few minutes. “What are you talking about?”

“We’ll stop in with your cousin for a little while, but I have to get back to the pack.”

“That’s hardly fair, I mean, you are the entire reason we are in this mess—”

“Just tell me, dammit, and then we can get on with this!” he growled, snatching a map from the glove compartment. “I’m tired of your shitty attitude!” Leilani leaned sulkily back against the chair. Though she was completely unwilling to take any part of the blame for the current situation they were in, she did suppose that a better attitude could be taken on her part. She had been complaining quite a bit, hadn’t she? A little voice told her that that was an understatement. Looking guiltily up at the man who was trying his hardest to fix the mess, even she had to admit that she was being irritating.

“Alderbranch. 244 Adams Street, in Alderbranch. Uh, thanks.” Robin didn’t answer her at first, and Leilani bit her lip. “Look, I’m sorry I’m being such a bitch.” He took a moment, but then grinned up at her.

“Admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery.”

Leilani growled.

“I take it back!”

The rest of the car trip consisted of this kind of banter, and if ever she were to look back on that particular moment, she would be hard pressed to admit that she was smiling.

~

“Don’t touch me!”

“What do you mean ‘don’t touch you’? I’m your boyfriend!”

“This is a ruse!”

“A ruse?”

“Yes, it’s pretend! It’s not real!”

“Keep your voice down, Leilani!”

“Then stop touching me, Robin!”

“Do you want it to look real, or not?”

“…”

“Then shut the hell up!”

They were walking up the drive to her cousin’s house. Robin had an arm wrapped around both of her shoulders, and he kept drawing little circles on the exposed skin. Leilani hesitated when she was ringing the doorbell, but when Robin licked the shell of her ear suggestively, she rang it, and pinched him. They decided during the next two hours of their car trip that the best scheme to get her out of staying with her cousin was probably to pretend something big had come up. Robin had suggested that they make up some crap about her meeting his parents, and at first, Leilani had refused to hear it. But, when a better plan could not be formed, she was forced to agree. Robin pinched her nipple swiftly, and before she could violently reprimand him the door opened, revealing her excited bouncing cousin.

“Harley!” she shouted, flinging herself at her relative. Harley, in turn, hugged her back tightly before backing off to look at her.

“Leilani! Oh, it’s so good to see you; we have so much to catch up on! Speaking of which, who’s he?” Her cousin pointed a perfectly manicured nail at Robin, who was still tracing shapes on her shoulder. Harley flipped perfectly died blonde hair over one shoulder, and blinked large brown eyes. “Well? Who is he, why is he here, ruining our girls’ week? I assume this has something to do with the lateness, and you are probably going to feed me some crap about sudden plans, right?” Robin leaned over, and kissed Leilani’s cheek, meanwhile, Leilani tried to explain their “past”.

“Uh, well, he’s, my, well, he’s my, boy… He is a friend, who’s a boy, and we, uh—”

“We’re together.” He finished, nuzzling the junction where her neck met her shoulder. “She was supposed to call and cancel, but she wanted to come see you, at least for a little while.” Harley looked outraged, and Leilani could only look lamely apologetic. They stood in an awkward silence, while Robin’s hand inched closer and closer to the waistband of her pants, tickling the skin there.

“What are you canceling on me to do? We’ve been planning this for forever! Come on, babe, guys may come and go, but LeiHarlie is forever!” her cousin pleaded. Robin began whispering into her ear.

“You guys have a name-smoosh?”

“Yes, from when we were little!”

“It’s disgusting.”

“Shh!”

“What are you whispering about? All the fun you’ll have after you ditch me?” Harley whined, leaning against the doorframe.

“Well, we’ll be around for about two weeks,” Robin supplied, and Leilani looked up at him in surprise. “I have family in this town, and Leilani is coming to meet my parents.” Harley looked a little less scandalized.

“So you guys are serious. I mean, Leilani, I don’t want to be the whore who is ruining your shit, but, man, this sucks.”

Leilani sighed. She felt terrible. Somehow, she was going to make this up to Harley, when it was all over, and she was rid of the idiot who was trying to screw her on the doorstep.

“I know, I know. I really am sorry. I’ll make it up to you, I swear. I really do. But yeah, we are kind of… serious… about each other.” Leilani swallowed.

“At least stay for dinner?”

Leilani didn’t know what to do. By the way Robin was holding her, it was obvious that he didn’t like Harley. It was also obvious that he wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. It was already nightfall, and Leilani suspected that if they didn’t stay for dinner, her family would get suspicious, and she could only imagine what kind of cleanup the Cleaners would need to give the situation then.

“I’m going to come over soon. On my way back up. Okay? I just wanted to check in so that you weren’t worried. I am so sorry Harley. I really am. How can I make it up to you?” Harley seemed lost in thought. Leilani felt awful. She’d never been much of a liar, and never to her cousin. They were best friends. Their parents had come over from Hawaii together, and they’d been heartbroken when she’d moved away.

“Just come over, okay? I haven’t seen you in like, two years. Promise me I’ll see you while you’re here?”

“I promise.”

The girls chatted idly for another moment, before Robin squeezed her, and said they had to be off. Leilani waved from the car, and when they were out of sight, she punched Robin in the leg. She was unwilling to admit it hurt her much more than him.

“What’s the big idea?” he whined, keeping his eyes on the darkened road.

“Where are we going? You told her you had family here, you big jerk! Now she’ll expect me to come over, when I could be anywhere!”

“My pack is here.”

“Oh.” Said Leilani in a small voice. They were just outside of town, when he pulled off onto a dirt road, and began driving away from civilization. “Are they nice?”

“If you don’t irritate them.” He replied, looking at her pointedly.

“I am not irritating, you just don’t know how to treat people!”

“Whatever. Get your stuff, we’re going inside.”

Leilani unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car, running to the back to take her stuff out. Like before, Robin grabbed her duffel bag, but left the cooler. Gravel crunched under their feet as they walked down the road. There was a large house in the distance, and Leilani grew more and more apprehensive as they approached. There were other cars parked haphazardly along the path. They were close enough now to hear loud laughter and talking from inside, and Robin was practically pushing her up the steps.

“You know what? I think I’ll stay out here—” Robin pushed her forward, and she stumbled into the door, which opened suddenly, and she fell into the arms of a very large, burly man, who was nearly the size of a large bear.

“Robin! Good to see you! Boy, where have you been? Things have been hectic here without you!” he boomed, and Robin simply smiled.

“Had my hands full, Trent.” He responded, nodding his head towards Leilani, who was still enveloped by Trent’s girth. He wasn’t fat, from what she could see. He was just… Big. Very big.

“And who is this lovely young lady?” he asked, spinning her around. Leilani dizzily caught her balance, and Trent grabbed her wrists, smiling widely. “Robin, you always did bring back the best additions to the pack! Is she a rogue?”

“She is standing right here,” Leilani muttered, but both men ignored her.

“She’s human.”

“Run that by me again, Robin?”

“I said, she’s human Trent. I, uh, transformed in front of her. Accidentally of course. She’s staying with me.”

Trent looked down at her, and then back up at Robin. “How much does she know?”

“Enough. But, listen; I think that having a human around could be interesting. Don’t you?” Trent looked thoughtful. “Besides she’s got the tightest—”

“Enough!” Leilani squeaked from between them, and garnered both their attention. “Don’t say anything else! I… you have to be the alpha right? Please, I… He said that there was a possibility that you could kill me because of how much I knew, right? And I just, please don’t! I know I’m rambling…” Leilani looked down embarrassedly, but was surprised to hear Trent’s booming laughter around them.

“I think you’ve got things all wrong, miss. First of all, we don’t kill anyone, not if we can help it. Robin here was probably just foolin’ with you. Second, what makes you think you aren’t sticking around for a while? We’ve got to figure out what has him so entranced.” Tent winked. And we’ve got to run you by the Council, see what they say about you being here.”

“Besides the obvious.” Leilani’s face flushed, and she was ushered inside, among the crowd that had gathered around the door. She was pushed past the horde of surprised faces, all whispering.

“Is she a human?”

“Robin brought back a human!”

“Look, a human!”

Before she could snap that her ears worked just fine, she was out of the room, and in a hallway, alone once more with Trent and Robin. “You’ll be sticking with Robin, and we’ll find some things for you to do during the day, when you aren’t out, of course.”

“Oh. Um, when will I be able to leave? Go home, I mean.”

“I don’t know, why don’t you ask Robin, he’s the alpha around here.” Trent strode away, leaving a particularly murderous Leilani with Robin, who was leaning casually against one of the doors in the hallway.

~

Robin held one of the doors open for her, and Leilani pushed past him, throwing her things on the bed, and searching out the bathroom.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were the alpha? Why did you scare me? On purpose!” She stomped her foot. “That was why you were so eager to get back, wasn’t it? Because you’ve got a whole fucking pack to run!” She stormed around the room angrily. Leilani wasn’t sure why she was so angry. Sure, he’d gotten a laugh at her expense, but he never said he wasn’t the Alpha. He’d only said he needed to know what the Alpha had to say about her.

“It was funny. Come on, Trent won’t tell too many people. You have to admit—”

“What, that you got a laugh at my expense? I don’t even want to be here, I want to be with my family, but you’re keeping me here? For what, exactly? To be your sex toy?”

“No.”

“Then what?” she breathed. She was facing away from him, but she could still hear his footsteps as Robin walked over to her, and pressed himself against her back.

“Because. You being involved with me is dangerous. Very dangerous. There are… people who would hurt you just for knowing me. Until we can determine whether they already know about you, you’ve got to stay here.”

“Are you saying I’m in danger because youfucked me into the dirt without my permission?!”

“I’m saying that regardless of the intent, we are both in deep shit.”

Leilani pushed herself away from him, and grabbed her toiletry bag. “I… I’m taking a shower.”
