Chapter 2

You are not old…I looked out the window as he rubbed my hand. I was happy knowing he loved me no matter how many suns had passed. I took his hand and held to my face and began to kiss it.

“I think I’m done with practicing today Manauia. I would much rather…” I cut myself off as I moved my kisses to his neck. How many nights did we end practicing Putonhua with lovemaking?

“Citlali we shouldn’t. Not in your room. What if Xipil comes to check on you?” He began to rub my back and move his hands lower.

“Xipil is an old woman. She is asleep by now. Besides the risk of getting caught makes it half the fun.” I moved my lips to his ear while my hands massaged his rock hard cock. He began to moan which turned me on even more.

“Citlali…” He picked him up and threw onto my feather soft bed. I giggled as he began to remove my bedroom gown. In no time we were naked with our bodies pressing against each other. He licked my breasts and rubbed my clit at the same time. He knew how much this turned me on.

He loved to tease me with just kisses and caresses. Tonight I could not take it. I quickly sat up and knocked him down. I began to bite his neck as I moved him inside of me. I thrust my hips feverishly back and fourth. He held onto me, his nails digging into my sides. We were careful not to scream or moan just incase someone was outside my bedroom doors.

I felt myself about to come. By the look of his face, I knew Manauia was on edge as well. “Manauia…”I let go and could feel him release into me. I dropped down to bed; his arms were around me. I began to close my eyes when I felt him get up.

“Where are you going?”

“To my rooms. We have another council meeting after the morning meal.”

“Stay with me the night. Or let me stay with you. “

“Citlali please you know we can’t. “ He got dressed and moved to kiss me. “I promise I will see you tomorrow.”

I nodded and sank into the bed. I was too tired to argue. I fell into a dreamless sleep.

“Citlali. You are over sleeping again. You must wake for the morning meal.” I tried to tune out Xipil. She always insisted I was ready early to greet my father and the council members.
“Xipil please just let me sleep in. The sun has barely risen from it slumber.”

She pulled at my arm. I signed and just gave in, as I usually due. Today she had me wear white dress with a gold and jade belt. “What’s the occasion Xipil?’

“Nothing officially but I can feel that there will be some news.”

I raised my eyebrow as she put my gold feather headdress onto my long chocolate hair. “What gossip did you hear?”

“No gossip, I can just feel it. The spirits came to in a dream last night. They said today would be important.”

I wanted to roll my eyes but knew better. I found it hard to believe in these spirits and the stargazers’ predictions. As a little girl, I once spoke of these doubts to my father. He sent me away to the temple of Chantico, my patron goddess. He said if I did not fast and pray I would bring the wrath of the gods to his kingdom. There I stayed for many moons until I was forgiven.

“If that is what you feel is best, then I will wear these clothes.”

As I walked with Xipil to the room of the morning meal, I saw Manauia with another council member. I tried my best not to stare at him or remember the pervious night. I took my seat on the right side of my father, where my mother used to sit. My eldest brother, Muluc sat at his right. Muluc envied the treatment my father gave me. Though he was to be the next Ahuitzotl, he wanted the love our father had for me. Next to Muluc was his first wife, Cuicatl. She was quiet and sweet in nature. After mother died, she was there to comfort me. She would sing songs and tell me funny stories. She stopped when Muluc told her to stay away from me. Sometimes I wondered if his jealousy knew no limit.

“Citlali, my most precious of treasures, you aren’t eating much. Is there something wrong?” My father asked with great concern. Sometimes I felt he saw my mother in me. He often said I was all he had to remember her by.

“I’m fine my Ahuitzotl. Just a little tired.” He nodded and continued eating. I could hear everyone talking about random things. I did not have the energy to join them. Instead I stole glances at Manauia. I wished so hard I could just be his officially.

“Ahuitzotl, I am a little nervous about the new strangers that were spotted by our warrior. I think we should hold another council meeting to decide what we should do.” I looked at my brother. Strangers? What was he talking about?

“Silence Muluc. How are you to be a good Ahuitzotl when I pass if you have no trust or faith? There was a time before you that similar strangers were brought to this palace and nothing happened. We will do what my father did, question them and see what gifts they have to offer. Manauia will translate if they are in fact like his elders’ people. For now we wait.” Everyone was quiet after my father spoke. Strangers like Manauia’s elders? Then the messenger from last night was telling the truth.

After the morning meal, we all went to the council room. I was rarely allowed in but Manauia convinced my father my Putongha was good enough to help with the new strangers. The council room never ceased to amaze me. The ceiling was high with many pictures of our gods and goddesses. Everything was gold down to the last tile on the floor.

“You know sister, at the rate talks of marriage are going, you might be Manauia’s permanent assistant. In fact when he gets married, you might be allowed to take his place.” Muluc whispered to me as I took a seat next to him. He had suspicions of my feelings for Manauia but he did not know the whole truth.

“I hope I never do marry brother. That way I can spend my days serving our Ahuitzotl and then you. Everyday brother you will get to see me. It is like a gift from the great spirit Muluc, you namesake.” I smiled nicely. I knew the idea of having me around until he died bothered my brother.

Hours passed but we waited for the warrior at the shore to bring the strangers. Finally when the sun almost set, they came. The leader of the warriors, Achauhtli, came and gave a speech for father. “Just bring them in Achauhtli.”

Achauhtli nodded and motioned for his warriors to bring in the strangers. These strangers did look like Manauia. They were tall and the clothes they wore were so thin but layered. There were both men and women, young and old. Their eyes were moving rapidly, trying to take everything in. Manauia moved to the man who seemed to be the leader.

“Hello, do you speak Puttonhua?” He asked in their native tongue.

The man nodded. “Where you on the boat that first left Zhongguo?” The man asked Manauia.

“No my grandfather and his favorite concubine were, along with my father. A few more people were with them, mainly servants. Why are you here? Who sent you?”

Before the man could answer Manauia’s questions an older woman came up to Manauia. “You are Dao Bo’s grandson?”

“Yes, how do you…”

“Oh may our ancestors be praised! Your grandmother is waiting for you back in Zhongguo. You have to come with us soon! Just make these barbarians leave us be.”

Her insult did not register in my mind. Instead the only thing I could think of was Manauia leaving.
