Chapter 1
Chapter 1
A/N: now it has been a while since i last posted but i didn't know how to go about the first chapter: either go to Keellen when he wakes, or use this chapter to explain why it happened. But i ended up making it the latter. anyway i hope you enjoy and please read and review. Btw yes the world is taken from a game, but a game that isn't really known.
Now on to the story:
_________________________________________________________________________
Caleb sat upon his throne overlooking his kingdom. He was now the leader of the Unholy Alliance. His armies consisted of Dark Elves, Demons and the Undead. He has conquered city after city, using his necromancy to summon more undead from the living. Opening gates from the underworld to summon more demons. He was truly the ruler of A'shan.
He remembered how he came to this land.
******
He was walking around with his troop of militia when he discovered a structure in the distance. He and his troop marched into the ruins and explored the entire thing. He found on a wall strange images of creatures, beasts and human-like and in the centre of them all was a single being and what seemed to be a spiral beside him. Near the horde of creatures were the following words:
“Those who may enter may find lots of power,
But that power comes at the price of Blood,
Though if you fail to pay the cost//”
He looked around the ruins and found a small podium-like altar and behind it was an arch. He walked up to the altar. The altar had a few buttons on it, and it also had scribblings written alongside and around them. The green button had the word “on” beside it, the red one had the word “off”, between the two buttons was written: “only those who have the magic to create a portal may enter into, all others shall perish”
Caleb decided then to call it a night, it was almost dark out and they needed to set up camp. The troop exited the ruined and started to set up outside, they couldn’t trust the ruins not to collapse onto or beneath them.
After night has fallen Caleb snuck out of the camp and into the ruins. Without further delay he pushed the on button and watched when the arch emitted purple light.
“so that's the portal eh?” he said as he walked up to the arch. He then suddenly found that there was a draft pulling into the portal and it got so powerful that he was sucked into it. Later throughout the night, the portal kept on sucking in the air around until it was too much for the ruins.
The troop, who were sleeping away the night, woke with a start when the ruins crumbled. They went to see if everyone was okay, but found one person missing... Caleb. They then hastily returned to town and told Caleb's wife that he was gone and assumed dead.
######
Caleb woke up surprised that he woke up.
“how am I still alive?” he said aloud, patting his body to see if he felt it. “Could it be that I... have the power to create a portal like that?”
“Yes and so much more. To be honest you could take over this world with the power you have.” came a screechy voice from behind him.
“Who are...?” he screamed as he turned to face the owner of the voice, “What are you?”
“I'm Rilak, the seer, I've been living in this forest waiting for you to come to us and start the prophecy Bawk!” the bird-like man said, “you do know the prophecy, correct?”
“The one written on the ruin wall, right?” Caleb answered
“That's the one! Bawk! I'm pretty sure you have lots of questions//”
“How can I understand you?” Caleb cut off. “I mean I can't just assume that you know my language or that i know yours.”
“Ah an easy one! Bawk! You have the innate ability to understand any and all languages, written or spoken. Bawk! Though let's get to the important question that I must ask you” Rilak looked at Caleb quizzically. “Have you come to your power yet?” Caleb looked confused “Magic powers Caleb, Bawk!”
“I have magic powers?” he asked softly.
“Why yes, Bawk!” Rilak started, “I guess you would need some training. Bawk! But don't worry, it shouldn't take too long since this world in and of itself is full of magic.”
“I see” Caleb answered.
“I guess we shall begin”
Rilak spent the next 3 hours training Caleb all the spells he knew, of which Caleb picked up and mastered within seconds.
“That's it?” Caleb asked
“Correct, you now have the training to take over this world, if that is your wish.” Rilak responded.
“What is this world?” Caleb asked
“This world is called A'shan, A'shan is controlled by 3 superpowers: the Unholy Alliance, the Imperial Empire and the Neutrals. The Neutral are the ones who just don't want to get involved with the power struggle between the Unholys and the Angelics. Bawk! Each of the superpowers consist of 3 separate races that have constant communications and that are similar in their political beliefs. The Unholys have the Necromancers, Demons and Dark elves on their side, the Angelics have human soldiers, Wood Elves and Wizards and finally The Neutrals consist of Goblins, Lizardmen and the Elementals.” Rilak explained.
“Which do you suggest to take over first?” Caleb asked
“Ultimately, the choice is yours. Bawk! But since you asked my opinion. I'd say go to the Unholys, I believe they would be receptive to having someone who's going against the Imperials, and considering your strength, you would move up through their ranks within a single day.”
“Ok, so where do we go?” Caleb asked while looking around
“Actually, the Dark Elves are very close. Bawk!” Rilak stated while tapping the ground, “ They right below us right now.”
“Can you take me to the gate?” Caleb asked
“Sure just follow me. Bawk!” Rilak said turning around while Caleb cringed at the annoying sound of the bird.
Rilak brought Caleb through a few yards of forest before reaching a tunnel that had a many staircases heading down into the ground. While going down the countless steps Caleb started to notice that there was a bright glow coming from caps at the bottom of the stairs. There was also the foul smell of fungus and rot.
They continued their way through more tunnels until Caleb could have sworn that he saw a statue of a woman in the distance. Rilak explained that each of the races had their own religious beliefs as well, and that for the Dark Elves the Dragon of Darkness is their god and that the dragon is represented by the statue of the woman.
As they approached the structure they were stopped by guards.
“What business do you have here?” the woman said strongly
“We are here to see the High Priest of this city. Bawk!” Rilak stated
“Very well, I will send word of your arrival and await approval to allow entry” minutes later the guard returned “It's been cleared. You may enter. The High Priest is in the Capital building at the base of the monument.” then she looked at the other guard present, “Kythra will be accompanying you to see him.”
“Yes Ma'am!” the other guard responded.
They walked together over to the Capital building and entered it. The first floor had a lone hallway and a few doors on each side.
“These are sleeping quarters for visitor that we do accept into our city. The High Priest is on the second floor.” She continued to walk up the narrow staircase at the end of the hall.
They arrived at the double doors of the High Priest's Quarters.
“I will leave you now.” She said as she left and turned the corner.
Caleb knocked on the door and heard a distant “ Come in.” They entered the room.
“So, I see you are here to start the prophecy.” The High Priest stated, while Caleb looked a little shocked. “What? Do you think I don't know about it. Well just to tell you, Everyone on this world knows of it. The Unholys hope you join us, I believe the Imperials don't want it to happen and the Neutrals are indifferent, just as long as they don't get involved, but I think they'll be brought into this either by you or the Imperials.”
“So to take over this city I would just need to kill you, right?” Caleb asked
“Among other things, yes. Though I must tell you Rilak and I have already come to an arrangement. I believe that you are destined for greatness, so I will serve under you.” the High priest stated, then shifted his gaze to Rilak. “So how strong is his powers?”
“He is quite strong, Bawk! But he is not at his full potential. You know what he must do for that to happen.” Rilak answered.
“I see, can he open the gate to the world of where he came?” The HP asked
“Yes he can but its only powerful enough for the lowest of monsters, Aldrae. Bawk!”
“I'll send for the assassins...” Aldrae started.
“Assassins? Gate? What must I do?” Caleb interupted
“He doesn't know?” Aldrae asked Rilak.
“Well I had to bring him fast after random magic training. Bawk! And I didn't want to be the one to tell him.” Rilak added quickly.
“Well you are 1 of the 2 beings of our two worlds that can open gates from this world to yours. The other being is connected to you by blood, so a brother or your child. Now this may be a legend, but it is said that the beings with powers like yours and the other have odd genetic traits.” Aldrae stopped.
“Ok. My son has red eyes, like the coloured ring is blood red, and I always though he was albino, but I've noticed that his hair is a darker blond, so could that be it?” Caleb questioned.
Aldrae nodded and then said. “Yes he would be the other being to be able to gate through to this world and to use magic. Do you want to reach your full power?”
“Yes, I want it. I want it more than anything, I'd do anything for the power.”
“Kythra, please come in.” She walked in, and waited for an order. “Could you get me several assassins from the School of the Black Hand,” Kythra turned and left. Aldrae turned back to Caleb, “Assassins are the weakest creatures that make up the Dark Elf army. You should be able to easily gate them to your world and have them kill your son.” Caleb looked at him in shock. “Only in the death of the other can the former gain his or her full power, you said your willing to do anything.”
“I am. I will do what I need to for this power.” Caleb said after he recovered from the shock and as the door to the quarters opened for the 7 assassins.
“Caleb you will need to cast 2 spells: the main spell to teleport them, then you'll need to make a portable portal for the assassins to return. To do the latter you'll need to use an inanimate object that they could use to activate the portal.” Aldrae went to the cabinet behind him and took out a stone and gave it to Caleb. “ You can invoke it on this stone and set it so that it activates on destruction of the stone. I believe the assassins are strong enough to crush the stone.”
Caleb concentrated on the stone and on what he wanted it to do. A glimmering light shined from the stone then suddenly stopped. “Ok, thats done. Now for the portal, are you guys ready?” they nodded. “Ok, so ill be porting you to a forest next to my dwelling. Please wait until night fall then attack and kill all who are there by any means.”
Caleb concentrated on his memory of the forest he mentioned and extended his hand out. Gray squared glyphs drew outside of his palm and spun slowly. He yelled out, “Open Gate!”. The assassins walked in and the portal closed behind them.
“And now we wait,” Aldrae said. “Which won't be long because of the time difference”
Less than 4 minutes later a portal opened in the office and the 7 assassins came back in. Though 1 was dead, hit in the head with a blunt object.
“What happened?”
“We found the house easily, we killed the mother and 2 of the children, the boy mentioned with red eyes was held captive then suddenly disappeared. The same kind of symbol that appeared when you cast the portal appeared on his forehead and his eyes turned gray before he disappeared. We then destroyed the entire town and killed everyone but he was not found.” The assassin said.
“That means we have a problem... Where did he go?” Caleb asked.
Rilak was quick to answer. “well according to the description of the event, apparently he cast an elementless spell, so like the portal spell though he didn't teleport anywhere and i don't know any other spell that would use that glyph. But there is something else that could give us a hint, Caleb concentrate hard on your son. Do you feel him anywhere?”
“No, I don't.”
“Well we can't do anything now, all we can do is wait.”
**************
Now 5 years later, he is still nowhere to be found. So instead of wasting my time with that I decided that I should start conquering this world, so far I've only made a dent into the Ramparts of the Imperial Alliance. Though they won't last long, their green dragons will fall sooner or later.
Caleb still sat there after he finished his back flash. Then suddenly he felt something, something far away, a power that had started strong and that is starting to subside. He sat up immediately and yelled “he's back”.
Rilak busted into the room and yelled, “Whats the matter?”
“He's back, I felt his power come back.” Caleb shouted with a maniacal laugh. “I've waited 5 years-” He was cut off by a sudden hard quake. “What the hell was that Rilak?”
“Let me see...” he concentrated on the quake and what had perhaps caused it. “What?! Impossible!”
“What Rilak? Just say it already!”
“Well it seems that the time differences between the worlds have equalized, they are minute for minute now! Bawk!” Rilak answered. “You'll have to locate him quickly.”
Caleb started concentrating on him and tried to locate him. But he couldn't, The power hid itself. He'd just have to try again later.
