Dreaming

Thank you for your review and no, he's not a werewolf. Just a very lucky fool that should have died from the alcohol alone. As for the 9 against 1 ordeal, 50 shots of vodka made that one possible, lol. Enjoy chapter 2.

Chapter 2: Dreaming

Nate’s POV

We ascended the stairs slowly, the lone light at the bottom starting to fade as the climb got darker and darker. I did everything I could but I was fading in and out of consciousness faster and faster.

“Guess…. I shoulda’…. maybe stayed in the hos…..” I didn’t fell myself pass out.

Emelious’ POV

‘I should have known it would be like this. I’m just wondering if I should have pulled him out of there last night. He was drunk when Liz and I were leaving but insisted he would be fine. I warned him that the TKE frat was probably going to start something with him, being my little brother and all but he said he could hold his own. Pound for pound he’s a far better fighter than I, but nobody his size is taking down 9 full grown adults armed with the equipment a bar has to offer. He didn’t do to bad of a job with the first 5 though.’

“That was genuinely stupid of me” I muttered lightly, shifting my little brother in my arms to open the hallway door. I reached out and heard the door open. Liz was standing there holding the door to let me get him through. She almost jumped when she saw Nate in my arms.

“Oh my god….” she shrieked but I shushed her quickly. I looked down as he stirred lightly with a groan only to see that he was bruised badly and pretty busted up. I cringed as put him down on the sofa.

“I’m gonna break those bastards in half. Ganging up on him like that is disgraceful.” I couldn’t help but tremble with anger. Liz came up behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist. I could feel myself relax as she put her head to my back, slowly stroking a hand up to my chest.

“It’s better to not get yourself worked up like this. There’s nothing you can do about it until the fights next Friday. If you go after them, Nate’s not going to be happy and more importantly you’ll lose your fight license.” She spoke in such a calming tone with such compassion that it was amazing this delicate creature could take a liking to such a brute like me. She was a little shorter than Nate but very lean. Almost like something out of a Victoria Secret’s catalog, platinum blonde hair, brilliant blue eyes, and the face of an angel. She even acted like one too. The embodiment of perfection in my eyes, and she was mine.

“Em, hello? Are you still there” She said waving a hand in front of me. I sometimes lost myself when I would look at this magnificent creature in front of me.

“Sorry babe, I’m still here. It’s just really unfair when you do that to me.” I said as I moved back over to the couch to cover Nate with a blanket.

“Do what to you? You always say that.” She said, playing as if she didn’t know.

“Dazzle me being the perfect creature that you are.” I said, as I turned only to watch her flip me off. This was the way it typically went with Liz. She didn’t like being complemented very much but more often than not, I couldn’t help it. I looked down as I saw Nate groan and shift. “I wonder what he’s dreaming? He doesn’t look to comfortable.” I said, as I got up to join my girl at the table for breakfast.

Nate’s POV

“No, please don’t leave me. You can’t do this to me!” I screamed but they were gone. I was alone. I was completely and utterly alone. My parents silhouettes quickly fading away. “This can’t be happening” I thought as a vicious wind whipped against my face. I looked around and all I could see was snow. In the distance I could see a small house but I didn’t recognize it. The storm was terrible and when I looked down and looked behind me, I saw that I was left in shreds of what were my jeans and a t-shirt. They felt warm but wet and when I touched my chest I saw my hand was drenched in blood. There was a hole in my chest and I could reach right through. There was no pain but my heart was missing, and behind me a trail of blood, tainting the pure, white snow. I didn’t know where I was or what had happened to me, but I could feel the cold now. I was freezing but worse than that was the pain I now felt in my chest. It felt like it was on fire, even in this blizzard that continued to pound against my half dead body.
A figure was passing in the distance, and for a split second it looked, or rather, she looked familiar. “It can’t be….. No it really can’t…. THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING!” I started to shout as she came closer. I saw Debbie, my ex walking towards me with a smile. Her eyes were red and glowing, nothing at all like the girl I knew and loved, but much more like the monster that shattered my reality. She came and stood in front of me, still looking radiant as ever.

“You’re pitiful” she said as she laughed, running a finger along my face and licking the blood off of it.

“Why?” I asked, tears welling up in my eyes, “Why do you do this to me? I could have and would have given you the world? I loved you, protected you, got you through your classes. We spent four Christmas’s together, made love on your sweet 16, and you still went and broke my heart like that? WHY!?” I screamed at her but she still had that sinister smile on her face. She pulled her other hand up only to reveal something bright red and moving.

“Broke your heart? Oh you poor, sweet, innocent, little thing you. How could I be so cruel?” I felt this sudden shock of pain shoot through me. “That was breaking your heart…” She said as she squeezed her hand and I collapsed in pain. The hole in my chest and the red lump in her hand, she was holding my heart. I just gazed up at her as she continued that demonic laugh. “Goodbye Nate, it was fun while you were alive.” She said as she crushed my heart in her hands. I saw the snow beneath me as I fell towards it, my eyes closing on the way down.

I jerked awake with a gasp only to fall back to the couch and scream in pain. My ribs hurt like a son of a bitch and I couldn’t remember why.

“Nate, it’s ok. You’re safe. We’re here for you.” I heard a beautiful female voice and opened my eyes again to see Liz staring at me, concern plastered all over that beautiful face.

“ What are you….. What happened….. And where am I?” I stammered out of confusion and sleep deprivation. I looked around and realized I was back with Emelious.

“You took one hell of an ass whipping and you look like hell,” she said and handed me a glass with ice and some dark liquid. I sniffed it and smiled, Jack Daniels always made me feel better in the morning. I drained it quick and handed her the glass. She shot me this scornful look.

“What?” I asked playfully, knowing what was coming.

She just looked at me like a mother about to punish a child. “It’s no wonder you get into trouble, drinking like that and all. But then again you were having that nightmare again weren’t you?”

I laid my head back down and stared up at the ceiling, my stomach felt like it had dropped out from under me. “Yeah” I replied, not even realizing how close she was too me. She kissed me on the cheek and stroking her hand on my chest whispered into my ear, “You’re going to get through this, I have faith in you.” She smiled at me as she ran her hand through my hair, mussing it and making it stick up in all directions. She said suited me so well, before turning to head back to the kitchen to finish breakfast.

I looked at the clock, “9:00AM? Fuck me,” I said as I stood up slowly, wincing in pain. I went to the bathroom to relieve myself and check the damage. I cringed when I looked in the mirror and saw all the cuts and large bruises all over my upper body. But even through all of physical injuries it was still my chest that hurt the most. “Even if it was a dream, that pain is still too real,” I whispered to myself as I flushed the toilet. I brushed my teeth and washed my face as usual, toweling myself dry and checking the mirror to see if I had missed anything. I shut off the faucet and opened the door only to find Emelious standing there, blocking the whole door frame. I don’t think I could ever get used to someone that big being so sneaky.

“We should talk about this weekend. It’s about time I start taking care of you and you yourself.” His voiced echoed through the long hallway. I just looked at him expecting a follow up but nothing came.

“What do you want me to do?” I asked and he grew angry.

“I want you to stop playing around, getting drunk like this and getting your ass kicked. I know you were trying to move on and I liked Kara, but I told you not to expect anything from her. You want to fall for someone but all you’re doing is destroying yourself. You’re trying to fill that gap and trust me I know how hard it is. I suffered just like you for years before I met Liz. But the fact is when a girl gets close to you, you can’t let them in so easily. You’re way too trusting and I know that’s why WE love you but other people are just going to use you. Nate, wake up damn it!” He hissed at me. I leaned against the wall and I sunk down. He was right, I was still trying to kill myself. I had no regard for my own safety and no value for my own life. I was trying to get over her with another women but I just kept setting myself up to be hurt again. I kept setting myself up for failure and then drowning myself to make it go away.

“There is one thing that came out of this that we can definitely look forward too.” He smiled as he sat down next to me.

“And that would be?” I said as he put an arm around me. He smiled and let out a booming laugh.

“It took nine of them to take you down, little bro. You are one vicious little animal when you get into a fight and you can take that with you next weekend to the fights. Come with me and enter in yourself, I know you’ll do well. Besides, you have all those clowns from TKE going trying to prove how bad they are. And now you have a legal chance to tear their heads off.” He smiled and the thought kept coursing through my head. I looked at him, the words finally coming back to me.

“Sign me up big guy. I have a score to settle.” We shared a laugh together before he helped me up. I went back into the bathroom and closed the door. “A hot shower should do me well. At least it’ll relax me a little more.” I stripped down and turned on the water, checking myself in the mirror while the water warmed. I stepped in and let the warm stream wash over me as I leaned back against the wall, falling deep into thought.
