"Get the fuck out," he said quietly. There was no questioning of how serious he was being; his tone conveyed more than volume ever could. It was cold as ice, and full of hate. Not your average, high-school hate that lasts for a few months and fades away, but pure, unadulterated, passionate hatred.

"Vince," I said quietly, not even daring to look up as I took a few tentative steps toward him.

"I said get out! You can't even imagine what I'm going through right now, and of all the people who want to help me, yours is the help I need the least. Even looking at you makes me wanna puke right now; your voice! Your voice is all I heard while she was screaming! That sick bastard said that all she wanted was to be able to see me one more time, so he fucking cut off her eyelids so she could always see; forever. All she wanted was to see me, and I was here, fucking you. So get the fuck out you goddamn whore! Get out!"

I could actually feel the hatred radiating off him as I stood there.

"GET OUT!"

Somewhere in my mind it registered that the more angry Vince got, the more dangerous he could be. He may have controlled his demon up until now, but he probably would let it tear me apart if I got much closer right now.

So I just kept looking down. I stared at the floor and I cried as I turned to leave. I cried, like a little girl. Not just because of the words he had said, those were true and empowered by well deserved rage, but because I was the reason that he was in so much more pain than he should have been.

He had stayed home that night because of me.

Because we wanted to have sex.

He should have been out with her, out at some club somewhere. Where he could have told the guy to fuck off when she said no to him. Could have defended her when the guy pulled a knife on her. When he took her to his car, knocked her out, then waited to carve into her flesh like she was a chew toy when she was awake and could enjoy it... Vince could have been there to save her.

He was a fucking sick, sadistic man. And Vince could have stopped him.

If he had been there.
