Chapter 2: The unexpected

The look on her face was that of complete shock at what just unfolded. She soon snapped out of it when she heard his loud laughter. She brushed her bangs out of her eyes and looked at him. If looks could kill he would be dead by now. “ I’m sorry that I played a nasty trick on you, but I have never seen a woman more beautiful then you. And none more compassionate.” Once he was on his feet he stood in front of her and held out his hand to her. “I will take your hand if you promise me no more nasty tricks sir.” “Cross my heart.” and with that he made an X over his heart. As they entered the elevator she pushed the button for the fifth floor. It felt like an eternity, you could here the clicks as each floor passed by. Finally the door opened and he let her lead the way, cause he sure didn’t know where she lived.

They walked down a long hallway it was the most lavish apartment building that he has seen. I mean the outside doesn’t do the inside justice. With the trim done in a golden color and amazing paintings hung on the walls. Even the black wrought iron numbers looked elegant. H e wasn’t paying any attention when he bumped into her. “ You kind of want to watch were you are walking.” “ Oh my bad.” “Well anyway follow me and I will patch you up till you can go see a real doctor.” As he followed behind her he took in the surroundings. Her apartment wasn’t that big, I guess it was sufficient enough for one person, or maybe two if that. With that question in hand he was just aching to ask and as if his politeness and rudeness fought out this battle his mouth opened up and asked “Do you have a partner, maybe a boyfriend, or girlfriend either?” Just then his mind caught up with him he covered his mouth as she stood there looking at him. “ To answer your question no I have no boyfriend or girlfriend for that matter. I don’t have time.” “What kind of job do you have where you have no time for a love life?”

“ I barely even know you and yet I already told you I am unattached and I let you in my apartment, Ok lets just fix you up and I’ll send you on your way back to whatever it was you were doing.” She stood up and walked back to her bathroom to get the medical supplies from her closet. She stood there in complete amazement at what she was doing. “I let a complete stranger into my house. What the hell am I doing” She looked at herself in the mirror and wondered. Boy it was taking a long time for her to come back, He moved from the hallway and stepped into what seemed like a living room. There was a flat screen TV, a couch and love seat and one small rug in the center of the room. But what caught his attention was the huge window. He could see the sun was just about to set, she had her couch facing the window, no wonder why even being in a crowed city where her place was located there was no obstructions in your way to view the sun rising or sun setting for that matter.

He was lost in thought cause he never heard her coming from down the hall till she was standing right next to him. “ Let me pull a chair over here so I can start the process of healing your wound.” As he sat there and watched her clean the wound and patch him up he couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to hold her in his arms every night before they both fell asleep. She was a beautiful women she had long brown hair, her eyes were a hazel color and her body was a curvy as an old road. She was a little bit shorter then himself but no woman was 6’2. He looked around some more. On the walls he could see several pictures of what seemed like friends. One stood out to him it was her and what seemed like an older woman with some young children.

“ I don’t mean to pry, but I noticed that picture on the way there is that you and your grandmother?” She glanced over to where he was looking. “ No that is actually my mother.” she said as she bent down to finish the stitching. He looked down at her and her eyes went sad again for the second time today. “ Where is she now?” “ She is in heaven along with my father.” “ I am terribly sorry for asking I should never..” “ No need, she is in a better place. As for the children in the picture they are my siblings, most of them are much more grown up now.” With that she Put the bandage over the wound and issued a few warnings to him. “ May I asked what my heroes name is?” “ I am a little reluctant to tell you but what the hell, my name is Vivian O’Brien.” “Well Vivian I thank you kindly.” he then gently picked up her hand and kissed it. She blushed like a giddy little school girl receiving her first confession. Just as he was about to leave he started to swagger. He caught himself against the wall. “ You are still weak from all the blood you lost, here you can stay in my guest room and rest for a little bit and I’ll wash your shirt for you.

She grabbed him and helped him to the room in the back next to hers. She situated him on the bed and helped him take off the shirt. He was in amazingly great shape. His body reminded her of one right out of a buff mans magazine. Once she had the shirt in hand she gently laid him down and took off his shoes. When she was walking to her washer she got a whiff of a sweet smell she looked around and could see nothing then she looked down at the shirt in her hands and out of curiosity she smelt it. It was the most incising smell not to strong and not to girly. She finished loading the washer and started it. Then she thought she might make some tea it seemed to always make her feel better. When the tea was done she headed back to the room and walked in a most wondrous sight. He fell asleep. “ He most be exhausted” she thought. She quietly walked over to him to put a blanket over him to keep him cool in the drafty apartment.

Before she walked away she leaned closer to his face, He looked more handsome asleep then he did awake, she saw a strand of her in the way so she gently brushed it aside for him. She leaned in a little more and the next thing she knew she gave him a kiss on the forehead. As if her body was slow to react she jumped up and ran out of the room, but unbenosted to her he was awake. As soon as she walked away he opened his eyes and just turned his head and gave a small sigh. “ I think for the first time in my life I think I might have fallen in love.” She made her way to the living room and found her favorite spot. The bench right in front of the large window. She liked to sit here and watch the sunset. It was as if the sun setting was sort of like all her problems in the world would go down with it.

She reached over her legs and continued with the book she started two days ago. Before she knew it she dozed off. When he heard total silence he walked into the living room and there he saw her, sleeping like a princess awaiting to be awoken. He quietly walked over to her. She looked more peaceful when she slept, all her troubles didn’t matter where ever she was in dreamland. He picked her up and moved her to the couch. Laying in that odd position will surely hurt her back in the morning. As he gently laid her down he noticed her hair was in her face, he then slowly moved her stands out of her wondrous face. When doing so he bent down and kissed her lips. Just one for the road he told himself. "I will see you again my beauty." he wispered in her ear. He then processed to the kitchen and found a pisece of paper and wrote
Dearest Vivien I am truly greatful for all that you have helped me with today.
You helped a complete stanger more then you think did.I will see you again some day
and on that note I am intrusting you with my prized possecion, or more like a good
luck charm after all it helped me to met a beautiful woman like you.I will be back for this treasure and for you.
Sincerly yours,

Mr.T.B.

He then went into his coat pocket and pulled out a what looked like a ruby being held by a dragons claw. "Keep her safe as you have done for me." He placed it on the table next to the letter. He turned around one last time and then continued to walk out the door and then closed it.
