The Stitch Up

Linda was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The girl was a shadow hunter, a demoness, doomed to walk in the shade forever, but then again she looked to be about seventeen years old. Linda could tell she was on the brink of death, but she had to think about the consequences. If they helped her what would happen when she woke up?

If she becomes a threat, Linda thought, then I’ll just kill her. She let Catie down and told her to run home. When Catie left, Linda knelt down again and felt the shade walker’s pulse. It was faint and the girl’s skin was cold. If she had been human then she would have already been dead.

At the touch of Linda’s hand, the girl began to stir.

“What of you, Shadow hunter?” Linda said. It was then that the girl’s eyes fully opened when she saw Linda she cringed back in horror.

“Come now,” Linda comforted, “I’m going to help ya.” Linda very carefully picked the girl up to her feet.

“Now, I know you’re hurt badly, but you’re going to have to help me a little,” Linda said to the girl, she nodded in response. It took them half an hour, but they finally stumbled across the threshold of the little cottage door. Linda took her to a bedroom and laid her down on an old squeaky cot. She went to tear the girl’s shirt away but the girl whimpered and protested.

“Now’s not the time for modesty, sweetheart,” Linda said to the girl. She carefully tore the shirt away exposing the deep gash in the young lady’s side. It looked infected and the bruising around it had turned black and dark purple.

Linda felt the blood rush out of her face.

“Catie…I think you should leave the room.”

The little girl stared wide-eyed with a look of absolute horror on her face. Linda gently guided her to the door and ushered her out of the room. She went into the bathroom and found the first aid kit along with some alcohol and a needle that she would need to stitch up the girl’s wound.

During the stitch-up the girl fortunately fell unconscious once again unable to withstand the pain. Linda walked out of the bedroom, down the hallway and sat down at the kitchen table and let out a held-in breathe.

I have to make Catie dinner and then-, Linda thought, but her thoughts were cut off by the front door swiftly opening letting the cold night wind blow into the warmth of the cottage. Linda felt a mixture of joy and anxiety as the young man stepped in.

“Oh…Avery, your home,” Linda said trying to figure out how to tell him about the young woman she had placed in his bedroom.

So, I realise this chapter is slow and short. My apologies. I have some ideas for later on, but I\'m still kind\'ve new at this. Feedback? Any kind is accepted. Thank you.
