Part One

The sky moved with dark clouds. The sun tried, in vain, to spread its light onto the Earth below. The Earth knew the light couldn’t reach Her today. She resigned to Her fate as small droplets of water crashed down.

The Earth was once a simple place. Even though wars raged and disputes were inevitable, it was still simple. Not too long ago, scientists had discovered parallel Universes. It was the Earth’s undoing.

The Universes collided and mixed. The result was unimaginable. Many different Species, also known as Races, were discovered. Humans finally learned to stop fighting each other and work together to stop any new threats. There were many wars, many casualties. Humans were unprepared. The Earth wept. Humans no longer dominated as the main Race. The Gods and Goddesses were forced to intervene before The Great Chaos could destroy everything.

The Earth was divided. Each Race was given their own piece of land.

Wars still rage, however, no one wishes to repeat The Great Chaos. The wars will never escalate to such a degree again, as per the demand of those in Heaven.

But can that possibly last forever?

“The usual, please.” The words were polite and said with a kind smile.

“Rum and coke.” The bartender prepared the drink and set it before the young girl.

“Thanks.”

This was the usual exchange. Every day at nine, she would appear and have the same drink, only one, before leaving.

She sipped it slowly and scanned the pub, The Litter Box, with mismatched eyes. It was a comfortable place. Most people were usuals like her. They all came to wind down from a day of work or to escape home for a little while. Times were hard for anyone who was low to middle class. The economy was in complete disarray. Her eyes flickered to the television propped up behind the bar. They were talking about the same thing again. Money was the main issue nowadays.

“Life will always be about survival of the fittest.” She tossed back the rest of her drink, placed a bill on the table’s surface, and left.

She hummed to herself, fingers toying with the buttons of her black trench coat. Her green running shoes were soundless as she walked down the sidewalk. She passed a few people on her way, one bumping into her. She turned around to walk backwards. Her tongue poked through her lips before she turned around again and almost bumped into someone else.

“Ah! Sorry, sorry!”

“Watch where you’re g-” The man stopped, his eyes widening. He turned slightly to the two others behind him. “Hey, it’s her.”

“Really? She looks too young.”

“But the description in the file...”

She shifted her feet nervously, deciding whether or not to run. She took a single step back before one grabbed her and pulled her into an alleyway. She struggled weakly as she was thrown into the side of a building. She fell to the floor and crouched over slightly, trembling, sobbing.

“Look at her. She can’t be Rain.”

“She has to be. Who else would where a black top hat with a shorter crown, dark blue rectangle-shaped sunglasses, and have her right eye whited out in blindness?”

“But she looks so...pathetic.”

“Whatever. She looks right so even if she isn’t, we’ll just kill her and collect the money.”

“Alright.”

“Sounds good.” The three men turned back to the girl.

She was no longer trembling from her sobs. She was shaking with barely concealed laughter. She stood slowly, removing her coat in the same move. She gripped the hilt of her all black double-bladed katana that rested on her right hip and smiled gently at the three men.

The slide of a katana being unsheathed filled the darkness of the alleyway.

She moved fast.

With one hand, she swung her blade up the middle of the first man before swinging it to slice the throat of the man to the right. The other one started to run. She caught up with him easily. She drove her katana through his back to pierce his heart with a small cut. He would suffer slowly as the blood drained from his body.

Rain hummed as she walked back to her coat. She stopped a foot before the fallen article.

“I know you’re there.” She sighed dramatically before leaning her back against the brick wall. “Ya know, for a ninja, you’re not very stealthy. Or maybe I’m just that good.” She smiled as someone appeared from the shadows.

“Tonight will be the last time you take a life.” He raised his katana before his body, the word “Honour”, written in Hiragana, clearly visible near the hilt.

“Those guys started it. They were looking for me.” She flickered the fingers holding her katana towards the three bodies before toying with the hilt.

“You didn’t have to kill them. You could have just run away.”

“You speak of walking away from a battle with the word ‘Honour’ on your blade? That’s a bit hypocritical.”

“This wasn’t a battle. This was a slaughter.” His grip tightened as he muttered the last word.

“Same difference.” She shrugged.

He made his move then. The tip of his blade scratched the bricks where Rain just was.
“My, my, is little Stevie-kins angry?”

“How do you know my name?” He swung at her again but she just jumped back a few steps.

“I know everything, little one.” She blocked his next attack with her katana and giggled before kicking him back. “I suppose I shall take your advice and flee. You’re much too fun to play with so I can’t kill you right away.” She skipped back a few steps more before wiggling her fingers in a farewell. “Symbol of the Dragon, activate.” The crimson tattoo on her upper right arm glowed under the white sleeve of her shirt.

A black dragon with red eyes appeared behind her. She hopped on and disappeared into the sky.

“He’s so dumb. I can’t believe he thinks he can actually beat me.”

“Of course he thinks that. His form is flawless.”

“That doesn’t mean he is. He is only Human after all.”

“Cheer up, it’s going to rain soon.” Rain giggled as she flew next to the Goddess of War.

“So...are you bored, Nicole?”

“How did you guess?” The blond Goddess sighed.

“Why don’t you go have some fun with your hubby?”

“He’s busy.” Nicole shrugged.

“What do you want to do?”

“Hmm...surprise me.”

“Alright.”
