Chapter 2
As the next few days flew past Miyu became healthier, stronger, and more full life than when Latif first saw her. He noticed everything about her; how she sat and looked out the window and every now and then would sigh is if something saddened her, the way she would sing as she was getting dressed, the way she would laugh. His heart grew fonder of the girl by the day. Latif knew that if Miyu had not been found by Miss Sasa then this beauty would surely have been lost. If only he knew who the women was and how it came to be that no had come looking for her yet.
“Latif come on,” Miyu was pulling Latif out of his thoughts, “You said something about a walk outside… hmmm?”
Latif smiled “I did.”
He got up off the living room chair. Grabbing his coat and Miyu’s coat he told her, “It’s cool out and I don’t want you getting sick again.”
He tapped her head gently when she retorted, “Latif quit being a doctor for a few minutes!”
She pulled him out in the fall air. Miss Sasa was tending to her garden that was a little ways from her home. Miyu waved, then hit him on the shoulder and ran ahead. She teased him, “Slow poke.”
“Hey!” was his startled exclamation as he ran after her. They played their game of tag for hours. Miyu could not remember a happier time. Still a feeling of worry began to nag Miyu to the core, “Hey Miyu! Ooooh… where are you Miyu?”
She was at a loss to hear Latif coming closer to where she was hiding out. She should move. Better yet, she should tell him what she was thinking. It would have been so nice to talk to somebody. Yet Miyu could not speak of her fears to any one, for her worries could bring her happiness to an end. Latif noticed that Miyu was lost in thought so he continued walking around as if he didn’t know where she was hiding. Both felt odd about today. Not wanting to see Miyu get hurt, Latif kept a close tab on where she was at all times. However, that source of that feeling of worry and change had found its way back to Miyu.
Peeping out through some bushes a pair of greenish blue eyes were watching Miyu’s every movement.
“Hmm the reports of your death have been highly exaggerated,” a voice whispered as he continued to hide and watch. He knew that this women was indeed Nyth and that she had not died in the latest battle. Her brown skin shone like brushed brass, her hair was longer then the last time her seen her still, the color had the same unusual highlights for red, brown, and black. The only thing that was missing was her wings. Nyth usually had her wings out because she had loved too much and said that to hide such beautiful things would surly leave this world void of art.
“There you are!” looking at Latif coming her way, an unconscious smile crept onto her face.
“I needed to think about a few things,” Latif sat next to her leaning against a very large oak tree. Thinking about how fast the past few weeks had gone from finding a young a girl to sitting with a woman who was wise beyond her years, was amazing. Latif knew that this woman could be dangerous, but then again she was Miyu, woman who could stop the world with just asmile and stop the rain from falling with a laugh.
“Miyu do you now who you are yet?”
“No. But I do know that I have something to do, something very important,” she told him.
The stranger that had been watching her could not believe what he was hearing. That this person who he believed to be Nyth had lost her memories of her childhood, her friends, and even who she is. This stranger could not take any more of his friend not knowing, but just as he was about to make himself known his phone began buzzing in his pocket. A text message was sent: ‘Did you find Nyth yet? If so is she ok?’
He replied that Nyth was alive but was ill. Not life threatening, just ill.
“Come on Miyu, Miss Sasa might be getting worried about us,” Latif had stood up first turning just a bit to face Miyu , “Come on let’s get back.”
He reached out his hand to help her up. Miyu couldn’t believe how happy she was at this moment in time. For the first time she thought maybe, just maybe, Latif could be something more to her then a doctor. Reaching out to take his hand, Miyu smiled. Then just seconds before contact, Miyu was stuck with a blinding pain at her back. The wind began picking up, gathering momentum with leaves of every color flying about. Miyu had not been able to take his hand but instead was lying on the semi-warm ground holding herself as she screamed in pain. Something seemed to be trying to free itself from her fragile body. As the lone stranger braced himself against the strong winds that came from nowhere he watched curiously what was happing to her. Abruptly, it happened! A large tan-brown wing was freed from the confines of her body. Even though the stranger shouldn’t have been shocked at what was going on in front of him, he was still scared for her. All the years they had spent together, her wings had never hurt her. As the other wing emerged from her body Miyu had stopped screaming, lying still as if she was dead. Latif knew that she was still alive from the way she was breathing ever so slightly. He had not noticed that a stranger had been watching them or that the person in question had left. What he did know is that Miyu needed him.
