Chapter 2
Chapter 2
******
Mihangel kept his eyes closed as he came out of unconsciousness, fearing what he would see. He often blacked out when his body was killing. He was staring at the inside of his eyelids waiting for them to open. Mihangel jerked and his eyes flew open. When he wanted them to.
“So you're awake. How do you feel?”
The last moments before the black out came flashing back as he heard that soft voice. He turned towards the sound and saw the girl leaning against the wall near his head.
“Why...” he began in a voice hoarse from only snarling and hissing, “why haven't you restrained me...it will be back,” his voice cracked. “It always comes back...” He blinked and looked at the girl again, she was smiling slightly.
“Not this time Mihangel. 'It' is gone. From you anyways.”
Mihangel closed his eyes again. “Who are you...how did you do it?” He heard a flutter along with her light footsteps.
“My name is Adelrune, and I didn't do it, the man who did is named Eran. I just brought you here.” Her lips quirked up into a smile.
Mihangel looked in her direction and sat up, staring at the space behind her.
“What are you?” he asked, astounded by the huge black wings behind her, which twitched ever so slightly.
“Sort of like you I suppose, but then not.” Adelrune's smile turned into a smirk. “I am an agent of the Skrovit Carstvo, I'm sure you've heard of Prince Nebojsa...”
Mihangel scoffed.
“Consider us...a special project of his. It is our job to intervene when things get out of hand...like it did with you.” Adelrune took a few steps closer to Mihangel, she took a seat on the chair beside the bed he was sitting on, curling her legs up until her she was settled in the chair, her wings russled as they settled behind her. Mihangel shuddered as she got closer.
“Maybe...you shouldn't sit so close.” he reluctantly pulled himself further onto the bed. Her laughter sounded like tinkling crystals.
“Realistic isn't it?”
“It isn't real?” Mihangel asked, confused.
“Have a taste...” Adelrune got up from her chair and crawled onto the bed and into Mihangel's lap, sweeping her ashy blond hair to the side, and tilting her head exposing her neck. Her smile turned seductive when she heard Mihangel's sharp intake of air. Adelrune could feel Mihangel struggling to pull away from her.
“Really Mihangel, it's okay.” She reached up, running a hand up his back to his neck, gently pulling his head down to the thrumming pulse in her neck. As soon as he got closer Mihangel could smell the sweet coppery blood, mixed with something else entirely. He brushed his lips against Adelrune's neck as he opened his mouth, his fangs slowly slipping softly into her neck. The blood rushed into his mouth, and he pulled harder on the source. Adelrune arched into him, her breasts pressing into his hard chest. Adelrune shuddered and then Mihangel noticed a different taste in his meal, he continued to drink noticing a sickly sweet undertone to the coppery blood.
Mihangel pulled away then, licking the wound closed quickly as he no longer felt the life force rushing into him. He couldn't feel the pulse of the woman in his arms, which somehow made their way around Adelrune. He could only stare at what he had done, she was drooping in his arms, her wings lifeless on the bed. Then he realized he couldn't move, just like when it was controlling him.
Adelrune sighed and snuggled closer to Mihangel, when his arms stayed where they had been before, and didn't move to cradle her again, she sat up a little, swaying slightly in a woosy way and looked into Mihangel's face.
“Oops...” she pulled herself up with his shoulders, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her lips to his. She bit gently into his lower lip and pulled some of the blood back into her own body. She felt his arms move behind her back, dropping rest against her waist.
“Venom...” she whispered against his lips before she licked them, the punctures closing slowly. She hovered close and felt the tip of his tongue brush her lips as he licked his own, feeling the newly healed skin.
“Wait...venom?” Mihangel asked, after several moments of silence.
“Mmhmm...” Adelrune stretched her arms out, leaning back against Mihangel's embrace. “I'm not a vampire, and not a human. We're called Vicscoleria, hybrids...between vampires and Valkyries. We have parts of both, but look more like humans, so we can lure rogue vampires into our clutches...” she snickered. “They think we are humans, and follow us to somewhere out of the way. If they happen to get us, not only will draining us of blood not kill us, but we release a venom near the end that paralyses you, allowing us to get the upper hand....just in case. But when we bite back, the venom is the first thing that comes back to us.”
“Oh...” Mihangel sat in silence, locking his fingers behind Adelrune's back.
“Am I interrupting something?” Mihangel looked over Adelrune's shoulder at the man in the doorway. A vampire, obviously, an ancient by the paper-thin look of his skin.
“Only an anatomy lesson.” Adelrune chirped, climbing out of Mihangel's embrace quickly, and back into her chair. Mihangel's arms fell onto the bed.
“Mihangel, this is Eran, the one who saved you.” Adelrune smiled at the old vampire, tucking her wings behind her.
“And how are you feeling Mihangel? What do you remember?” Eran stepped into the room, smiling in a weird way, his eyes on Mihangel, appraising him.
“I feel okay...just thirsty. And I remember most of it, just a little fuzzy.” Mihangel sighed.
“Do you know anything about what happened to you?” Eran asked gently.
“Well...yes and no. I remember being bitten, but nothing before it. I couldn't even remember my name, and even now Mihangel doesn't sound right, close but not right...”
“Michael.” Adelrune interrupted. “Your mother named you Michael, but when you are changed, your sire gives you your true name...yours is Mihangel.”
“Do you know who turned you Mihangel? Were you in control at all before you were possessed?” Eran asked.
“I...I don't remember anything from before.” Mihangel frowned in concentration. “But I sort of remember him...he was middle aged, and had nice eyes, I think I was really hurt...and he turned me to save me. I remember waking up, and seeing him standing over me, smiling. He brought me some bags of blood, and I drank, he was sitting beside me while I adjusted to everything...and then I guess he heard a noise because he went running from the room, I heard a crash and then silence...” Mihangel paused in his story. “Then, I heard him coming back. Quickly. He lunged at me, and the next thing I knew, I had completely lost control of my body...”
Eran nodded. “That explains why your actions are still so....human.”
Mihangel didn't even hear the older vampire. “I never even knew his name...”
“I'm sorry Mihangel, we haven't heard about any possessions other than yours lately. But we are glad you are okay, and I will be sure to let you know if we come across your sire.”
“What attacked me?” Mihangel looked from Adelrune to Eran.
“We call it Rasanrah....the rage. Not much is known about the how or why, only how to remove it. You should never be touched by it again, it isn't overly common...but it is the cause of all the vampire legends of the past, of bloodthirsty monsters and coldblooded murder. Now that I see you are well Mihangel, I will leave you in Adelrune's....capable hands.” Eran smiled, and inclined his head and the other two before taking his leave, the grey robe floating behind him as he went on his way down the hall.
Mihangel sat processing everything for a moment. Then he actually looked around. He was in a four poster bed, in what appeared to be a castle. He looked around at the stone walls, the window with the heavy wooden shutters and the rugs on the stone floor.
“Still hungry?” Adelrune asked, with her customary smirk.
“You offering?” Mihangel asked, inspecting a tapestry hanging on the wall. There was that crystal again, as Adelrune laughed.
“Come on.” She stood up, reaching a hand out to Mihangel. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood, but his legs buckled under him, he felt himself falling and there was nothing he could do about it until he was caught, but a smaller softer body. Adelrune smiled up at him, from under his shoulders, her wings spread to either side for balance.
“You alright?” she raised an eyebrow.
“I think so...” Mihangel said slowly.
“Well let me help you, once you get some blood in you, your strength will come back. The exorcism took a lot out of you. Thats right, put your arm there...don't worry my wings will move for you.” She smiled, and wrapped an arm around his waist, as he balanced himself on her shoulder. She fit perfectly underneath.
“Don't make me call Maddox to come carry you again.” Mihangel snorted at that as Adelrune led him out of the room and into the hall, going in the same direction Eran had. They went down the stone alls and a few flights of stairs, where Adelrune led Mihangel to a kitchen of sorts. She sat him at the heavy wooden table and disappeared into a pantry. Mihangel looked around and smiled, the ancient fixtures looked like they belonged, unlike the modern appliances.
Adelrune came out of the pantry carrying several medical bags of blood and two pewter mugs. She placed the vessels on the table and split open a bag, emptying the steaming blood into the mug. She did the same with the other bags, filling the cups almost to the brim. She passed one to Mihangel and sat down beside him cradling the other one between her hands.
“It will go down easier if its warm...drink up.” she began sipping her drink. Mihangel stared at the mug for a moment, sniffing the contents. Adelrune looked at him oddly. “Its human, if thats what you're worried about.” She took another big gulp of her steaming drink.
“Yeah....it is....” Mihangel just looked down at his cup. Adelrune frowned, putting her mug down on the table.
“You need to drink Mihangel, starving yourself won't do anything but cause you pain.”
“But someone...died for this. And I've killed enough people already.” Mihangel put his mug down and pushed it away. Adelrune sighed.
“No one died for it, it was donated and we purchased it. No one got hurt.” Adelrune grabbed the mug and handed it back to Mihangel, pushing it into his hands. “Now drink.” She stared at him until he took a little sip, then she watched as his eyes flashed red and he downed the rest of the mug with a shudder. Adelrune reached and picked up her own mug, handing that to Mihangel as well. He drank that one a little more slowly, but still finished it.
“There, feel better now?” Adelrune asked with a smile.
Mihangel nodded. “Thank you.” He said quietly. Adelrune just shrugged.
“Someone has to take care of you. Now do you want any more? You've cleaned me out twice now, I need to eat.” Adelrune stood up and took a few steps toward the pantry.
“I'm sorry...”
“Don't apologize, I offered didn't I?” She gave him that sensual smile again before ducking into the pantry to return minutes later with two more bags of blood. She filled her mug and downed it. She shuddered.
“Not hot enough. I'm not sure what we should be doing next...” Adelrune sat on the edge of the huge table.
“Well you could teach him how to be a real vampire.” a voice said from the doorway.
“Hi Maddox, Mihangel, this is Maddox he helped me bring you back here. And how am I supposed to do that hmm? I'm not a vampire what can I teach him?” Adelrune frowned at her friend.
Maddox rolled his eyes. “Way to make me have to do it.”
Mihangel stood up, placing his hands on the table, grasping the edge and staring as the wood seemed to compress under his fists. “If I'm a burden, just point me toward the front door.”
Adelrune sighed. “See what your snarky attitude does Maddox, sit down Mihangel, and stop taking it out on the table.” She stood and reached up to push down on Mihangel's shoulders, trying to force him to sit. “If you don't want to do it Maddox, just say you're busy. I'll teach you what I can Mihangel and then find someone else to teach you what I can't.”
“I'll teach your new pet if you do something for me Adel...” Maddox leered at Adelrune from his position leaning against the doorway, eyeing her up and down. Adelrune's smoky grey eyes darkened and flashed red. The temperature of the room dropped significantly as Adelrune's hand clenched on Mihangel's shoulder.
“Come on Mihangel, lets go outside and get started.” Adelrune stormed out of the room, her wings flaring behind her. Mihangel followed, snickering as Adelrune's wing smacked Maddox on the head as she passed him. He slipped past the fuming vampire and scrambled to catch up with Adelrune who was stomping off down the hall.
