Epiloque

A warm spring day breeze flown into an open window of a sea side cottage, Delila Jacklyn smiled as the fragrant of ocean and flowers danced in her nose. The smell of the flowers brought a loving memory of when Creston Ash bought her first bouquet of wild flowers. Her and Creston had been engaged for a year, now they are living together in a cottage that Delila inherited from her Great Aunt.

Delila's plan was to go through some old dusty cardboard boxes that were left by her Great Aunt, Sarai Jade. A sparkle of light caught Delila's eye in the shadowy corner of the room. The sunlight danced on the silver lock of a wooden hand-made hope chest. Delila moved her body closer to the chest to satisfy her curiosity. A blanket of dust that is an inch thick covered the chest's surface. Delila rubbed the palm of her hand across the surface to remove the dust. Old Englished silver plated embossed letters that read "Sarai Jade" were uncovered. Delila wiped the dust off from her hand onto a pair of faded jeans that she wore.

Delila's curiosity increased as she tugged on the silver lock guarding the chest. She remembered that her Grandmother, Jadelilyn had given her a key before she had passed away from an illness. She was told that she'll be needing that key someday and not to lose it. Delila reached around her neck to unclasp the chain that the key was on. She slid the key off the chain and re-clasp the chain back around her neck. She then inserted the silver key with a diamond on the handle into the lock to open the chest. Delila's heart beat increased as she became very excited while the key turned and the lock clicked open. Delila quickly removed the opened lock from the chest and lifted the chest's lid to reveal some hard bounded books inside. There were like more than five books total. All the books have the title, "Sarai Jade's Journal" followed by a number in sequence of how many books there are.

As Delila reached into the inviting chest to grasp the book with a number one printed on it she heard her front door open and closed. "Honey!" , her finace voice radiated from beneath her. "Up here in the attic Creston!", she replied. Creston's footsteps can be heard climbing the pull-out ladder to the attic. Creston pulled himself onto the attic floorboards. "What are you doing up here love?", Creston asked with a curious grin. Delila pulled out the book from the chest replying, " I was planning on going through these dusty boxes that were left here by my Great Aunt. I spotted this hope chest here in the corner". Delila motioned her hands toward the chest to show Creston her discovery. Creston followed Delila's hands to the opened chest ans his curiousity grew. "Was the chest locked?", Creston asked eyeing her silver chanin with the key missing that hung around her neck. Delila reached to touch neck where the key had layed on the chain, "Yes. I used the key that Grandma Jadelilyn gave me before she died from blood cancer. Inside this chest are volumes of journals with my Great Aunt's name on them". Delila lunged the journal that she was holding toward Creaston;s face to show him the cover. Creston moved his eyes toward the journal asking, " Have you read them yet?" "No, not yet. You came home from work before I had the chance to," Delila replied to Creston smiling. "Well, let's read yhrm aloud thenif you don't mind?" Creston asked. Delila gave him an excited smile, opened the cover of the journal, and begin reading vocally.......
