Bill of Sale
Selix sat on his perch, his body contorted into the most seductive pose possible. It wasn’t a conscious effort on his part, it was simply a natural state for him. He’d been born and trained to be one hundred percent sensual and the motions of such a profession were so ingrained into his person at this point it was more natural habit than conscious effort. Selix stared out at the crowd of men at the auction. He’d only been to a private auction once before on his 16th spring when he’d been sold to his first and latest Master, Master Crus. Sadly the older man died not two days ago, to the abject horror and misery of Selix. Master Crus was all he knew and a life outside of the man he loved seemed impossible to comprehend. Still he sat patiently and obediently upon his perch waiting for his future Master to pick him up. He only hoped that this new Master would treasure him as much as Master Crus had. The thought immediately left his head. He would be the best pet he could be to his new Master. The thought made him purr and brought the sting of tears from his eyes. Good pets don’t cry and never fuss, they only being happiness into the lives of those that own them. He smiled brightly. Yes, he would bring joy into the life of his new Master, that is exactly what Master Crus would want him to do. He took a moment to scan the crowd and then took the chance to merrily swing on his perch. It had been his favorite present from Master Crus and he was pleased that he could enjoy it this one last time. When a pair of Generals stopped in front of his perch he smiled brightly at them.
“Yes he’s absolutely what Mikhael needs.” The tall brunet said to his slightly shorter companion.
“I don’t know. You know how he feels about slaves.”
“How can you resist that face though?” The tall brunet held out his hand.
Selix immediately hopped from his perch and kneeled down in front of the General as was custom.
“See isn’t he sweet.” The brunet petted his hair and stroked one of Selix’s cheeks before raising the smaller man’s face to meet his own.
Selix nuzzled the gentle palm and smiled happily up at the man in front of him. It felt so wonderful to be petted again. The keepers didn’t touch him, and the groomers, though gentle and kind, weren’t ones to pet beyond the occasional tussle of hair or pat to the back.
“He’s perfect.”
“Fine but you get to be the one to tell Mikhael.”
“Party pooper. I’ll arrange everything and I guarantee that Mikhael will come to love him. How couldn’t’ he love such a wonderful little pet?”
Selix beamed at the praise and nuzzled the palm further.
“Back up on your swing little fellow. I’ll be back shortly to pick you up for delivery.”
Selix nodded happily and rushed back to sit on his perch. A new Master! Even though the conversation of the gentlemen had been a little concerning he quickly let it go. He would be such a wonderful pet that his Master would surely love him!
It didn’t take long for Selix to be led from his perch and into the carriage of his new Master. His collection of garments and presents would be sold by Master Crus’s family. He looked sadly back at his perch. Master Crus told him once that all of his things would forever be his own, no matter what happened. Master Crus’s daughter probably hadn’t known about Master Crus’s promise. He wanted to keep something to remind him of Master Crus even if it was just the handkerchief that Master Crus always wanted him to wear, but Master Crus’s daughter had taken that as well and a pet never contradicts the wishes of his Master. Tears threatened his eyes once more. It didn’t matter though. Master Crus loved him and that was more than any pet could ever hope for. He cheerily sat in the seat beside the tall brunet as they headed off.
Selix looked up at the man beside him.
“I’m Lionel. You’re going to be a stunning present for Commander Vesperian.” General Lionel once again began to pet his hair.
Selix nodded happily once again leaned into the touch.
. . .
Selix’s head was reeling from all of the excitement. First he’d been picked up by the grand carriage, and they immediately went to a groomer’s inn to purchase him up a new groomer. General Lionel picked out to be a tall muscular blonde name Rae and then they’d immediately gone to a fitter, for a small but appropriate gift wardrobe, before setting off to General Lionel’s apartments to allow him to bath and prepare for the evening.
“Here we are.” Selix was led into the large home and up the grand stairs. The corridor was so tall and large that his eyes couldn’t help but drag upward to the giant ceiling. “Don’t be surprised, little one. Mikhail Vesperian is quite wealthy and I’m sure you’ll be seeing much more grandeur than this in your time.
Selix looked up at General Lionel and nodded merrily.
General Lionel led him back through several hallways to a great chamber. Large oil fire pans sat in several corners of the room and chairs and couches sat piled around a central point in the large room.
“You, little one, will sit right here.” General Lionel pointed to the chair that belonged to Commander Vesperian. “ Until I return with Mikhael.”
Selix nodded and sat at the foot of the one of the two largest chair in the room, which clearly belonged to the host. His body once again settled comfortably into another sensuous pose. Nervousness shot through him. His face betrayed none of that stifling emotion. A good pet may be nervous but a pet’s emotions are strictly reserved for his Master.
. . .
Mikhael Vesperian sat at the head of the dinner table. Across from him sat his older brother, Darius Vesperian. The resemblance, while small, was clear in their eyes and hair. Mikhael sported longer hair that usually was braided behind him in a long rope that hung to the small of his back in the same black hue as his brother’s. His blue eyes were the same piercing ice color as his older Siblings, but held a harsher and cold cut to them. Darius’s hair was cut about 4 inches long at the most and sat in its usual elegant and composed manor on his head. His eyes, while ice blue, forever seemed heated and dominating. The two were now clearly engaged in a rather uncomfortable staring match.
“Really Darius, I can’t believe that you’ve done something as ridiculous as purchase a pet.” Mikhael’s words were sharp. “You know exactly how I feel about their presence in this household.”
“And you, my dear Commander Vesperian, had best remind yourself that as head of this household and General I am required to be an example to the court. That includes owning an appropriate harem. Given that the siege is at a halt, it is entirely appropriate that I see fit to settle my personal affairs.”
“You may be a General, but I am still a presence in this house and I will be heard on this matter.”
“The subject is closed Mikhael. I suggest you leave it that way. Before I require that you also fulfill your duty as a Commander in Banpo’s army.”
Mikhael glared at his brother, but said nothing. As a Commander, if ordered by a General or Coronel he would have to purchase a pet of his own. Hell his brother, as a General, could simply give him one and he would have no right to complain or refuse.
Dinner continued jovially from there. With General Lionel and Coronel Misha returning the conversation to its usual light state with anecdotes about various campaigns and mishapes
. . .
Selix sat in the room for nearly four hours, only occasionally taking a moment to resituate himself on the rug at the foot of his new Master’s chair. His heart jumped as the door handle clicked open and from the other side, sounds of conversation flooded in through the now parted door. Selix immediately perked up, his back finding a slightly higher arch.
“Don’t open your eyes until we say you can.” General Lionel entered the room. And nodded at Selix as he entered. General Lionel stood next to his earlier companion Coronel Misha. “Now keep in mind that this is a gift from Coronel Misha and myself.”
A third gentleman with short black hair entered, his eyes going slightly wide for a moment before he quietly stood off the the corner.
At last, the youngest man entered. His skin was tan from time spent in the sun. His long black hair, hung in a braid behind him with a sheen to it that made Selix feel like reaching out and touching it with his bare fingertips. His cloths were flattering, his shirt open at the top revealing a broad chest.
General Lionel motioned to the young man, signaling that this was Selix’s new master.“Ta Da.”
Ice blue eyes snapped open and immediately narrowed when they saw him.
Selix smiled invitingly.
“You didn’t.”
“Oh we did all right.” General Lionel nearly double over laughing.
Misha stood at the back of one of the couches with the older Vesperian brother. Both taking in the utter shook on Mikhael’s face.
A look of pure disgust wavered over his Master’s face, before quickly being swept up in a blank and stiff look. Selix’s heart fell to the ground and for a moment he had to force the smile to remain on his face. He hoped that his Master would be pleased with him. Clearly that was not the case. He felt like crying again, but instead kept his air of natural sensuality and remained seated at the foot of the chair.
“Lionel. Misha.” Mikhael ground out.
“Commander.” Darius shot his younger brother a pointed look.
“Thank you for your… gift. But unfortunately I don’t think that I can give such a gift a proper home given my jobs propensity for travel.”
“On the contrary, Mikhael. As your brother stated earlier, the troops are at rest for the next few months. It’s the perfect time for you to train a new pet.”
Mikhael ground his teeth again. Trying to maintain as blank a look as possible.
“I’m sure that my brother thanks you both for your consideration. It’d truly a wonderful gift.” Darius traveled over to small blonde that sat at the foot of his brother’s chair. “His skin tone is such a lovely slight tan and his eyes are an adorable green, aren’t they brother.” Darius shot a look to his sibling. “You’ll have to forgive your new master. I’m afraid he wasn’t exactly expecting a pet.”
Selix nodded at the man that held his chin in his hand. “Master has done nothing wrong. I’m sorry if I’ve surprised Master.”
Darius dropped the pets chin and sat in his chair in the circle.
Selix wanted so badly to stare at the beauty that was his new Master, but felt the other man’s disgust as deeply as any order to keep his eyes and head lowered.
A long silent moment passed. “Nonsense little one. I’m sure that Mikhael meant nothing by his shock. Did you Mikhael.”
Mikhael shook his head with a sigh. “Of course not.” Michael crossed the space between them and offered his hand to help the pet stand.
Selix looked up at his Master and beamed with pure joy. “Thank you, Master.” Mikhael’s momentary scowl made his heart drop again.
Mikhael patted his new pet’s head with an inner grimace. He could tear the head off of Lionel and Misha without a second thought. Mikhael sat down in his chair.
Selix, immediately sat at his Master’s foot, pulling another wince from Mikhael.
Lionel and Misha immediately followed suit taking their customary seats in the circle.
Darius kept a close eye on his brother, dreading an outburst of some kind.
“Please sit on one of the couches.” Mikhael spoke to the pet at his feet, urging the slighter man to get up and sit somewhere else.
“Yes, Master.”
Darius nearly laughed at how terribly this evening was going.
The pet took a seat on the couch closest to Mikhael, his eyes now pinned to the ground.
“What is your name, pet?” Darius hoped the other boy would look up, but he did not.
“I’m Selix, Sir. I’m sorry if I didn’t use the proper title, Sir. I’m unfamiliar with your position, Sir.”
Lionel could have died laughing at the moment. He clasped one hand over his mouth.
“How terribly rude of us all. I’m Coronel Misha.” Misha held a hand to his chest. “You know General Lionel, of course. That is General Vesperian, your Master’s brother.” Misha pointed to the older Vesperian.
Darius nodded at Selix who had brought his eyes up only to take in the information and then immediately lowered them again. “Thank you Coronel Misha. I’m sorry for the incorrect title, General Vesperian. Please forgive me.”
“No need to apologize, Selix. You didn’t know.” Mikhael said.
“Thank you, Master Vesperian.”
Again a long silence fell over the room.
“Well enough of all this excitement how about some coffee already.” Darius added, hoping to draw the attention from the clearly crestfallen Selix.
“With brandy.” Lionel added, earning nervous laughter from the other men.
The evening went on slowly for Selix, who sat quietly on the couch with his eyes glued to his hands. He kept his face neutral, but inside he lamented his mistakes. He hadn’t meant to anger his Master, but clearly Master Vesperian was upset with his presence. He prayed with all his might that his Master would forgive him. A good pet brought joy and happiness to his Master; he was a bad pet bringing only anger and disgust to his Master. His Master was kind enough to forgive him for his mistaking General Vesperian for a common man. The only punishment he’d received for disgusting his Master was the denial of sitting at Master Vesperian’s feet. He wanted to please his Master so badly it hurt. He longed to throw himself at Master Vesperian’s feet and beg forgiveness for what he’d done but he knew he deserved the denial of such forgiveness and accepted his punishment as gracefully as he could. It took all his will power not to break into tears then and there. Tomorrow he would spend three times as long preparing for his Master’s presence so as not to disgust his wonderful and kind Master with his rushed and imperfect appearance. A good pet never cries unless his Master wishes him too. A good pet never cries unless his Master wishes him too. A good pet never cries unless his Master wishes him too. A good pet never cries unless his Master wishes him too.
