To Whom It May Concern
Welcome to Evergreen Mental Facility. As you may or may not know, not a lot of people are imprisoned here these days. You are one of an unlucky few; there are other prisoners here with whom you\'ll pass the time before you die. Or before you escape. But I\'m getting ahead of myself. Your goal is to escape this facility within twenty-four hours. I was thinking forty-eight, but that\'s a bit cruel. I\'m not cruel.
Because I\'m not cruel, I\'m going to help you get out of here. Here are the rules, and a few hints:
There will be no map. That would be cheating.
If you find someone else, don\'t assume that they\'re trying to escape. Maybe they\'re trying to kill you. Or maybe they\'re just crazy. Making unfounded inferences will not help you much here.
If you get into too much trouble before I want you to, don\'t worry. I\'m always watching. Closed-circuit cameras will be monitoring you for the next twenty-four hours.
If you do escape, you\'ll be left alone so long as you never say a word to anyone about your experiences here. It\'s only fair.
I\'ve provided you with a phone (it\'s somewhere in this room) designed for children, with the same number programmed into all four available slots, so don\'t bother trying to call home. You can call me for help, and I will help you, but only twice; even better, I\'ll disable one of the traps that are waiting for you, all around the facility. But choose wisely. I\'ll only do it once. Keep in mind, the batteries on the phone are low. It won\'t last you the whole twenty-four hours. Then again, you might not, either.
Good luck. Your twenty-four hours begin at 3:00 this afternoon.
