Claw

A door half ways open, he pushed it with his finger and let it slide open, then peeked inside. The room laid dark, but not long time was needed for him to see in darkness. A figure laid on the floor, curled up together in a corner, with its face towards the wall. It looked dead. Yet he knew it was not. His hands touched the floor again as he sat down next to the creature and looked at it with his head tipped to the side. It was a female vampire. She laid naked, her flesh ripped up, at places even all the way to the bones. She was drained of blood, and therefore unable to heal herself. Slowly he reached his hand out to turn her around.

“What do you want, demon? Just kill me alright.” He snapped his hand back, surprised that the vampire was in a condition to not only notice him but also speak. He didn’t reply to her, but absorbed the sound of her voice. So weak and shaking. Resembling something broken. Again he reached his hand out, slowly, and laid it on her shoulder to turn her around. The body fell over as she did no attempt to keep him from doing what he pleased with her. Their eyes met, he looked into a pair of burning hazel eyes with noting in them but hate for the demon species. She stared back into a pair of glowing eyes. They seemed odd to her, not like other demon eyes she had seen, they were like a cats, a dark brown color to them, but when in darkness they looked yellow.

For a second she doubted him being a demon, he smelled otherwise, more pure, not like a filthy demon. But his glowing eyes made her sure she had not mistaken. They trailed down her body, then he spoke to her. “You are badly hurt.” Her eyes met his with sarcasm in them. “What is your name?”, he asked. “Claw.”, she hissed at him, implying that she really didn‘t want him to know her name, still not brave enough to refuse telling him. “Is that at all a name?”, he replied. She grunted, “What do a demon know of the vampire clans? It‘s my clan name. My /real/ name is Chloe.” She made a little sound from the pain of speaking so much, her body shook a little, then she calmed down again.

“Chloe, I will give you an offer. I can get you out of this place and can get you the blood you need to heal. If you give yourself to my lady and be under her command. Always. You will never kill a human again nor drink human blood. You will be a hunter with us.” “A hunter?” She widened her eyes and although it caused her pain she moved and backed away from the boy. He sat still and kept his eyes on her. “And if I refuse?”, she asked, her voice cracking up. “I kill you.” For a while she said nothing, her eyes never left his. There was a silence in them that scared her, and he claimed to be a hunter, hunters that were feared by all over and under earthly creatures. “You killed the demons?”, she asked with a faint pleasure. “They are under interrogation right now.” She thought through his offer. Dead or alive. “What is your name?”, she asked him. “Zero.” She grunted. How could he doubt her name to be a real name when his was Zero? “Zero, get me out of here.”

“That’s better..”, the lady praised the demon. She was leaning over him, he had pressed himself up against the wall, and her hands trailed gently along the demons cheek. “Now, if only you would be a darling and specify where in this town they hide..” Marbek stared at her with wild eyes. His fur was black from blood and his mind was unable to focus due to electricity shocks. He still held on to the rest of his left arm, curling up and as far away from the lady as he could possibly get. She got a sad look upon her face. “Are you sure you don’t know?” He continued to stare at her. Jerome sighed in the background. “You are right, Jerome.” she said, “We already got what we need. We’ll find them soon enough.” The other demon who had still been left unharmed spoke up to her, “Will you let us go now? You said that if we told you, if Marbek told you, where they were, we would go free!” His dark rusty voice had turned light like a human males with fear. The lady snorted. “I didn’t get precise information.“ Then she turned to him and smiled, “Not that I really meant to let you free anyway.” With that she walked gracefully outside, but before she disappeared up the stairs she said tonelessly: “Kill them.”

The air outside felt warmer, the sun would rise soon and Lady B raised her gaze towards east. Her eyes closed and she drew her breath tasting the polluted air of the city. They’d head off to a far smaller town soon, about 3 days driving. “Precisely for the Advent.”, she mumbled. “Better hurry up before they take off.”

Her thoughts were interrupted by her comrades who walked out of the building and awaited her next command. But only two out of three had come. “Where is Zero?”, she inquired. “Here, my lady.” Zero came to show in the doorway, still inside of the building. He stopped there and let the vampire rest up against the door. The lady widened her eyes at the sight of what he had brought with him. “Did I not tell you to stop bringing home dead mice?” He narrowed his eyes at her, then looked at the ground before him, his lady’s stare being stronger than his. “I want her with us. I’ll watch her.”, he pleaded. The vampire tried her best to hold on to him, her arm over his shoulder. Slowly she rose her gaze and got to see the hunters for the first time.

The lips of the woman were formed in a thin line and her eyes as cold as stone, barely showing off the green in them. Chloe whimpered, certain that she’d die before a second would pass. But nothing happened. She looked up again and faced the woman’s harsh eyes. Somehow they seemed softer with time. The lady looked over the vamps broken body and then into her golden brown eyes. Chloe was then certain that she could see some sort of compassion in the lady’s eyes, if only for a split second. To her relief Lady B turned around, “One mistake from her and you shall kill her. I hold you responsible for her actions, Zero. Teach her what she needs to know and make sure she’s of benefit to us. This is not a sacred heaven for vampires and demons to hide, understand that.” Then she turned so suddenly towards Zero and Chloe again that Jerome jumped backwards with surprise and she hallways yelled, “And let this be the very last one!”
