Episode 2
The sun peeped through the layers and layers of clouds today.
Waking up is the hardest thing for her to do. But somehow, even if she sleeps in for that extra half hour, she still manages to reach school on time. It's the little miracles of life. School was good today, remnants of the dark skies lingered around but mostly she was happy. Simple happiness at being able to laugh with her friends, joke about herself and eat the sandwich from the drink stall. Maybe she actually feels happier when she doesn't see him. At least then, he wouldn't be the only coherent thought running through her mind for the whole day. She decided to let him go, nothing good will come out of it. She believes it is suicide to constantly think about him and then be reminded that whenever he turns and look at them, he is most probably looking at her friend.
She used to read articles on how rape victims suffer from mental trauma long after the rape has happened and not understand. To her, what is over is over, why brood over it? Now, she knows, no one will ever willingly brood over bad incidents, it is all in the unconcious mind. She knows it first-hand. Caught in the act when she shop-lifted, now whenever she is back in the same store, that particular entrance always seems to be waiting for a wrong move from her and to ring. It has become a phobia. Those days passed by in a blur, going in and out of the station, studying for her finals. It seemed so long ago, but it was only less than a year. And with the passing days, her dread of that entrance only seemed to increase. Maybe her mental state is as bad as any of her classmates, like they said, none who choose to take psychology is truly normal.
Today, her parents announced, someone is moving in with them. She stared in surprise, this is a novel situation that she has never been in. A total stranger that she has never set her eyes on is going to move in with them? It wasn't the first time her dad's friends had to stay with them temporary but this time it was without warning and she didn't even know who they were. No, wait, her dad says, the guy would stay with them for an infinite period of time, his parents had just passed away. She frowned, it is a guy on top of everything? That would make situation at home very uncomfortable. They described it as having a new brother. No, she didn't actually want to have a new brother, it is too sudden. It is so much trouble! But, there is nothing she can do about it. They have already decided, the poor kid was without parents, he should not be without a home. Why couldn't he live with his relatives? She didn't understand, it was most likely a sensitive issue and since even her mum has agreed to it, there would be no more room for discussion. She started to make the necessary preparations for the arrival of her new "family member". He will arrive tomorrow.
She stared in shock, he wasn't how she expected him to be. He isn't a 8 year old kid, he is 18. He isn't some bratty, whiny kid that she can ignore or bully, he is tall, pale and basically, cute. He isn't a stranger, he studies in the same school as her, she has actually seen him in school. In fact, everytime she sees him, she will see her new "family member", because they happened to be the best of friends. This couldn't be happening to her.
