Skipping

“Meg, wake up. Its time for school” Meg heard Casey, her foster mom, yell from down stairs. Casey had blond hair and sparkling brown eyes. She was the type of woman that didn’t lose her temper and that always had a smile on. She was also the head cheerleader when she was in high school if that explains anything. Meg looked over at her “Hello Kitty” alarm clock that Casey had bought for her, which was placed on the shelf across from her bed, and noticed it was already turned off and saw that it was already 7:30am. She pushed back the black cotton comforter and placed her bare feet onto the icy cold wooded floor. She walked hastily over to her closet and pulled out one of her dresses to wear. She picked up her black boots from the floor and slings them over to her bed. She looked at herself in her dresser mirror and saw the same old girl staring back. “And they say ‘God grants wishes’. Hn, guess mine is too hard.” She turned away from her mirror and starts tugging off her long nightshirt up over her head and slung it to the laundry basket that was across the room from her.

Meg was about to put on her dark blue dress when Brock came bursting in. She froze and he did too. “Brock, get out!” she screamed. He walked out, blushing, and closed the door behind him. He bumped his head against the door and walked down the stairs to wait for her. Meg pulled down her dress and grabbed a pair of white stockings. She sat down on her bed and started putting on her stocking and then her boots when she sees Brock’s head pop in, with his eyes closed this time, and asked “Meg, are you ready to go?” She nods and stands up grabbing her school books off of her dresser.

The both of them walked down the oak stairs and into the bright pink kitchen to grab something to eat and to say bye to their ‘mom’. Meg grabbed a piece of toast and an apple when Casey says “I wish you would wear some of those nice things I bought and get some sun instead of staying in your room all day”.

“Mom, just leave her alone. I think she looks cute the way she dresses. Oh, today is a half day so we will be going to the mall,” Brock said.

Meg shot her head up and felt betrayed. The mall was one place that she never went because it was always crowed with people, mostly people he liked to hang out with. She was about to say something when he gives her a small wink. She relaxes a little and walks out side to Brock’s car and got in, and waited for him to come out. Now don’t ask me what kind of car it was. I don’t know anything about cars except how to drive them. Well anyway, back to the story.
Meg sat in the front passenger seat of the car and thought to herself, ‘What did he mean when he said I look cute? Did he mean it in a good way or a bad way?’ she thought to herself as Brock slammed the door shut. She jerked her head up and looked at him wide-eyed. He reached over to her and ruffled her hair. “Throw your books in the back,” he said to her. “Why? They are okay here in my lap. We’re going to be late to school if we don’t hurry,” she said back. “We’re not going to school”, he stated as he started up his car. “Where are we going then?” she asked quietly. He pulled out of the drive way and into the road and headed down the road. There was one main road that ran through the whole town. It broke off at a traffic light. To the left was the high school and straight led you out of town and into the country.

Brock looked over at her as he stopped at a red light. It was at the intersection that led out of town, as well as leading to the high school. “Meg, do you trust me?” he asked her. “Because if you don’t, I’ll turn and I can drop you off school” he said. She looked over at him and nodded her head. He looked into her green eyes and brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear, getting lost in her gaze.

Cars started honking loudly, snapping Brock out of his dazed state. He took his foot off the brake and drove past the turn. Meg stared at him for a few minutes and then turned her gaze out the window. They were heading out of town now and she didn’t know exactly where they were. As houses flew by the window Meg couldn’t help but glance over at Brock every once in a while. Before Meg knew it, they went from the small town into the countryside in the matter of minutes.

She watched out her window at a large field with horses running through, as if racing with the car. She sighed, wishing she was like them, free and loved more. She rested her head on her hand and continued to gaze out the window. Soon they drove up to a dirt road that went into a forest. They turned down the dusty road and finally came to a stop outside a cabin with a few other cars parked outside. Her eyes grew wide and looked franticly at Brock.

“It’s okay Meg. It will be fun,” Brock said as he patted her knee. He could feel her shaking a little. He stepped out of his car and opened her door. She stepped out while people came out of the house. Six of them were guys and the other four were girls. She recognized them from her school and started staring at the ground and her feet, holding her hands behind her.

Brock grabbed one of her hands and dragged her to the others. They all walked in the house ahead of her. Brock still had her by the hand so she couldn’t run off like she wanted to do. He sat down and brought her with him. She noticed three of the guys and three of the girls disappeared. Meg didn’t care where they went.
She could have cared less, she felt very content where she was but she knew that a lie. She was staring at her feet when she noticed one of the girls, who she thought was named Rebecca, came over to Brock and say something in his ear and disappeared into the room behind them. Rebecca was blond with blue eyes from contacts. Brock leaned over to Meg and said, “I’ll be back in a few minutes.” But before she could even say a word, the three boys spoke for her.

“She’ll be fine Brock. We’ll take good care of her.” Meg didn’t like the sound of his voice. Brock stood up and disappeared into the same room that girl had gone into. She felt one of the boys come over and sit next to her. She soon felt him place a hand on her leg. She didn’t know any of their names and doubted they were even start enough to know their own names.

“Please don’t touch me”, she said softly. Her request didn’t seem to faze him one bit. He slid his hand up her leg so it was barely underneath her dress. “I said don’t touch me” she hissed while standing up. While this was going on, in the room Brock went into he stood up off the bed and was about to go out there to see what was going on. The brunette that he was with said “She’s fine. She’s a big girl Brock. She can take care of herself.” With that he sat back down and resumed kissing her.

The same guy managed to back Meg up against a wall and tried to kiss her. “Come on” one guy, who was casually leaning against a wall watching, called from across the room. She slid across the wall looking for the door when the tougher guy kissed her. She bit his lip and he jerked away from her. He touched his lip with his index finger and saw blood, Meg could clearly see rage in his eyes and she tried to get away.

He slapped her hard enough that she fell to the floor in front of the door, but she didn’t scream. She quickly stood up and backed into it. She could feel him hit her again and this time she yelled in pain. Brock shot up and looked at the closed bedroom door like it was supposed to do something.

Meg pushed open the front door and ran outside. The two other guys raced for Brock’s car and stopped her from getting into it.

Brock and the others walked into the living room to see what was happening when they all heard Meg yell from outside.
She was being backed up into the lake. Meg was an excellent swimmer so she turned and ran into the water just as Brock ran out of the cabin looking for her. The rough guy went after her. He was up to his waist when Meg went under the water. Her boots were weighing her down so she couldn’t swim up for air. Brock raced to the lake while taking off his shirt and ran in. When he was deep enough in, he dove under the cold water to look for her. Meg stopped struggling and sank closer to the bottom. She closed her eyes as she started running out of air in her lungs. She opened her eyes up and stared at Brock, but she didn't see him at all. Brock grabbed her arm swimming towards shore. When he reached the dirt shore, he carried her out of the water and laid her down on the grass that lined it. He remembered what he was taught in health class and checked her breathing and started doing CPR on her. Meg didn’t know what was happening. She didn’t see anyone around her even though her eyes were open.

Meg found herself in a forest but no cabin, no lake and definitely no body else. She could hear some voices singing a tune she didn’t recognize but some how did. She walked off following the sound and came across a large rock. Sitting on it were two girls, well they looked like girls but had thin wings coming out of their heads where their ears should be. They stopped singing and looked at her strangely. They pressed their hands against their heads and screamed. The sound they made was horrendous screeching and Meg had to cry out in pain because of it.

Meg lurched upwards and coughed up water. She sucked in air into her burning lungs and jerked forward at the force of another cough. Her cloths were soaked and everyone was around her staring at her. She could remember why she was wet but couldn’t remember how she got out. Brock wrapped a dry blanket, which felt extremely warm to her freezing body, to make her stop shivering and hugged her tightly. He picked her up and brought her over to his car and placed her into the passenger seat. He walked over to his door and opened it. He started it up while glaring at the three guys and the girl. Brock shifted his car in gear and drove off with only one thing in his mind, Meg.

‘How can I be so stupid to leave her alone? What would have happened if I didn’t get to her?’ He didn’t want to answer that question that he had in his thoughts. He was glad that she had gotten to her and that she is safe beside him. He was also glad that she had gotten away from those guys, he doesn’t know what he would do if she hadn’t. ‘I shouldn’t have left her alone just because of that’ he didn’t want to resort to name calling either.

His mind was racing with his thoughts that he almost didn’t hear Meg quietly say “I’m sorry Brock”. She was looking at him. Brock pulled to the side of the road and stopped. “Meg, you have nothing to be sorry about. I do. I’m the one that should be sorry. I shouldn’t have left you alone with them. I don’t know what I would have done if they did get time to do something to you. They could have rapped you or anything like that” he said, his voice was full of different emotions such as rage and worry, all emotions but caring.

He brushed some of her wet hair out of her face. She turned her face a little and his hand was on her left cheek and lips. She looked at him and wanted to be able to kiss him, to tell him how she felt about him. He cleared his throat and placed his hand back on the wheel. He pulled back onto the road and headed home. “Mom and dad should be at work. We can stay there the rest of the day,” he said as they rolled up to their house.

She stepped out of the car and walked into the front door. Brock followed her in and up the stairs and stopped at her door. “You should change” he stated and walked into his own room that was down the hall. Meg stepped inside her room and took off all her cloths and dropped them on the floor. She reached into her one dresser drawer and pulled out a white tank top that had a built in bra, a pair of loose sweat pants and a pair of black underwear. She slipped them on and dried her hair with a towel.

Meg stepping into the hallway closed her door behind her and headed down to Brock’s room. She knocked and waited for him to answer. She stood there for a few minutes until he opened the door and allowed her to come in. He had on a pair of gray sweats and an old football shirt. He sat down on his bed and motioned for her to come over. She moved over to him and looked down at him. He pulled her down next to him. She sat without an objection but didn’t say a word. She sighed and looked at her hands in her lap. Brock laid down and she did too. She closed her eyes and yawned. She felt terribly tired now. “How do I end up sleeping here every time something happens?” she asked to no one in particular.

Meg opened her eyes and looked over her shoulder at Brock. ‘He must be asleep,’ she thought. She turned her head away and fell asleep. Brock opened his eyes and looked over at his clock that was on a small stand next to his bed. It was already 11:45am. “How times flies when something screws up,” he said out loud to no one but himself.
