"Do you want to play with me?"
Crystal stares down at the small boy playing in front of a large house. For the first time she has decided to venture to the house on the other side of her own, instead of going to Torrance's. "Are you mean?"
"No." He hands her a small toy. "Here you can keep this one if you want to."
Crystal smiles and sits down next him. "Thanks. I'm Crystal."
The boy smiles back to her. "I'm Jet."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Torrance looks down at the dragon pendant around her neck. He scoops it up into the palm of his hand. "I can't believe you still have this."
"I can't believe you would think I ever take it off." Crystal takes a small step backwards, as Brittany comes walking towards the couple.
"Are you going to take me home or not?" Brittany turns to Crystal, just noticing she is standing there. "Oh, Crystal I didn't know you knew the new guy."
Crystal's eyebrow raises and she muffles a laugh. "You're the hot new guy?"
Torrance smiles down at her. "Well, what can I say?"
"Are we leaving or not?" Brittany taps her foot impatiently.
Crystal tugs gently on her earlobe; a nervous twitch she has never been able to shake. "Are you two here together?" She crosses her arms, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable.
"We were." Brittany suddenly spots Rob walking through the front door. "Crystal, I'll talk to you later. Torrance, I hope you fall off a cliff and die. Byeness!" She happily bounces off towards Rob who is, unsurprisingly, happy to see her.
"So you were on a date?"
"No. Um...uh..."
"No. Um. Uh. That's probably the best explanation from a guy I've heard, yet."
"I don't have to explain anything to you."
Crystal rolls her eyes. "You haven't changed at all." She moves to walk away, but Torrance grabs her arm.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means you've always been hard-headed, strong-minded, and never able to think of anyone, but yourself!" She wrenches away from his grasp and marches back over to Jet; to sit down in a huff.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Her anger melts under his concerned gaze.
Torrance immediately pulls a chair up beside them, not caring to notice Jet at all. "What the fuck are you talking about? All I ever thought about is you; from when I left to now."
Crystal does not lift up her head. "Don't curse at me."
" 'Scuse you." Torrance's head turns to Jet's voice. "Me and my best friend are kind of in the middle of something here."
"YOUR best friend?" Torrance turns back to Crystal. "HIS best friend?"
"Why are you here? I mean, you leave for a decade and come running back into my life, hoping I kept it on hold for you-."
"I kept mine on hold for you-."
"I'm not you, Torrance!"
"So you don't want me here?" Torrance looks at Crystal, but the silence she is speaking says everything. As he chokes on the arid air, and the words he never had a chance to say to her, he feels his legs picking himself up from the table and walking outside of the restaurant. He can smell the coming of the artificial rain deposits in the air around him. Torrance closes his eyes. The humidity hugs his body, taking away some of his chill. "I never thought about anyone else, but myself?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~
Torrance stares across the large front yard of his house to the other side. Someone else had the audacity to play with his friend and not even ask him. Torrance runs across the yard towards the blossoming new friendship. "Crystal?"
"Hi, Torrance. I'm playing with my new friend, Je-."
"Let's go, Crystal."
Crystal pulls at her earlobe and scrunches up her face in thought. "But our parents won't be home from work for another-."
"I said let's go, now!"
Crystal's eyes widen at her friend whose voice has never risen towards her in her entire existence. "But-."
Jet turns to Crystal and then to Torrance. "You can play too if you want. We can all be friends together."
"We don't want to be friends with you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~
While his thoughts of her slowly begins to settle around his heart the musky smell of rain is gradually distilled by Cosmic Passion Shampoo; which Crystal has been using since she was a little girl. The rain starts to sprinkle from the sky replacing the sweet smell with a new, stronger odor. "Why aren't you with your best friend?" Torrance looks up into the starry heavens. Torrance can feel her uneasiness, as she shifts her weight from one side of her body to the other.
Crystal sighs as the rain starts to pour in medium heavy torrents. "I thought that's were I was, but the way you're acting I could be wrong."
"I could say the same about you."
"Why didn't you just stay away? Why, after all these years, did you decide to pop in and say hi?"
Torrance closes his eyes and reopens them. He is looking into Crystal's eyes. "Lift up your shirt."
"No!"
"After all these years you still don't trust me? Just lift it up so I can see your stomach and you lower back."
Crystal nibbles at her lower lip. She slowly pulls up the hem of her shirt. "It's really not as horrible as it looks."
"You're right. It's worse." Torrance pulls her shirt back down. "Why don't you leave?"
"Where would I go? I haven’t even graduated high school, Torrance. Where would I go?" Crystal asks.
Torrance looks up to the sky. The raindrops dip slowly backwards pass his eyelashes, down his eyelids, and dribble off his eyebrows. "I don't want to drag you down with me..."
Torrance feels a soft warm hand tilt his cheek. His heart looks down and dives into Crystal's brown eyes. "You wouldn't-."
"Crystal!" Jet rushes out of the restaurant.
Crystal spins around and walks over to Jet. "Sorry, Jet. Can I call you tomorrow?"
"You want to go out with him?"
Crystal turns towards Torrance and back to Jet. "Yeah. We have a lot to catch up on."
"Yeah, okay. I understand. Call me if he tries anything. Everyone knows you're my bitch."
Crystal smiles and hugs Jet around the neck. "Thanks for understanding." She comes down from her toes and walks back over to Torrance. "Is there some place we could go?"
"You trust me enough to be at my place alone?"
"Of course."
Torrance grabs her hand and walks her over to a shiny blue and silver motorcycle. He hands her the helmet on the back and hops on the seat. "Hold on tight. I don't hold back."
Crystal shoves the helmet on her head and sits on the black leather seat. "You never did." She wraps her arms around his waist and closes her eyes as Torrance revs up the motorcycle. She sees a brief spray of moon rocks and dust before they speed off into the night.
Crystal can hear every beat of his heart as her head lay firmly pressed against his back. The silence of the world is so loud that her brain has tuned out everything except his heavy breathing. It does not take long for Torrance to arrive in front of a comfortable three story cottage.
"Wow! Could this place be any bigger?"
"I took you to the smaller one." Torrance boasts. He tugs her up the driveway and to the door. “I thought it would be the best place...to tell you...what I never...” Torrance pulls a key from his pocket and unlocks the large wooden white door. Inside the cottage is a long hallway leading to a living room. The fire place is already roaring in front of a feathery white carpet.
“What exactly do you plan on us doing Mr. Tyler?” Crystal giggles and slips her hand in his.
“I can take care of you now, Crystal. I’ve been working for my father part time, all these years, and I’ve got enough so we can live comfortably for the rest of our lives without either of our families money, power, and prestige.”
“Why are you telling me this, Tori?”
Torrance pulls her into the yellow and orange illuminated living area. “Before my family moved...”He sits her down on the black couch placed in the middle of the room. “That day...I wanted to tell you something.”
Crystal takes a deep breath and tugs at her ear. “What is it?”
“I’m sorry.”
Crystal laughs while make a conscious effort not to notice how his hand has tightened his grip around hers. “Why?”
“Everything you went through. It was...it was my fault...”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I don’t want to marry her dad. I want to marry, Crystal.” Seven year old Torrance pouts at the daughter of his father’s friend. “I love Crystal, mommy.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you mean?”
“Somehow...along the way of being your best friend...”
“Torrance, what’s wrong?”
Torrance can’t shake the feeling of his heart being put into a shot gun and fired into her hands as his lips part to speak to her again. “As soon as I get back you’re fucking some other guy. How the fuck do you think that made me feel tonight? I looked like a fucking idiot!”
“No, Torrance! You look like a fucking idiot right now.” Crystal wrenches her hand from his and gets almost to the door before his voice stops her.
“You’re still such a little girl, Crystal Reed, but you’re all I have.” Torrance trudges over to her and wraps his arms around her small soft waist. “Don’t leave me alone again. That’s all I’m saying.”
Crystal feels her face burn with...embarrassment? Anger? Love? “Torrance this just isn’t a good time in my life for you to come back in it.”
“Tell me that you love him and I’ll never come between your, and his, happiness again.” Torrance’s flesh seems to melt into hers as his breath against her neck warms her to the bone.
“Torrance...I don’t want to go back to that half of my life anymore. I don’t want to love you anymore, Torrance Tyler. All it got me was my father’s cock and cum in my mouth every night. I would rather do what he tells me and only get it half as bad as I used to. He loves Jet. I love Jet. He just doesn’t love me and you.”
“So because Jet only gets you a few scars on your body you’re willing to fall for him and not fight for me?”
“I’m too tired to fight. I was sick and tired of fighting by the time I was twelve years old Torrance...”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Torrance is going to come back for me! I know he is!”
He leads the lips of his daughter to the head of his member. “Wrap those lips around daddy’s dick in the meantime, princess. Money knows your mother won’t.”
She coughs and spatters as she chokes on the long fleshy shaft.
“We both know he’s not coming back...”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Would you rather be in my arms or his?” Torrance presses his lips against the nape of her neck. He can feel her body shivering next to his despite the roaring fire. “Tell me the truth. Tell me you don’t want the name Tyler behind yours and I’ll leave as fast as I came.”
Crystal resists the urge to fall into his body and fall asleep for eternity. Sleep was exactly what she needed, to sleep and never wake up... “I should go...” She gnaws at her bottom lip with her canines. “Jet, is probably waiting for me by now.”
“Fuck, Crystal! Just say it!” Torrance shakes her around like a bobble head. “Don’t leave me in this love triangle with you in him.”
For a second, Crystal can picture it...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The afternoon sun burns through the curtains onto their bare skin. Crystal rolls over and scratches the sleep from her eyes. She opens them to the most flawless and smooth back to grace the 22nd Century. She gives the back a gentle kiss that is just enough to stir its owner.
“Crystal?” The voice whispers through the dull afternoon daze that only the moon can offer.
“Yes, Love?”
“I think the baby is crying.”
She smiles to herself and nuzzles her cheek against the soft cotton feel of his skin. “I guess it is my turn, huh?” She rolls over onto her back. They do not even take up half of the area in their spacious emperor sized bed. “Billions of dollars and millions of workers yet we can’t hire a nanny...” She whispers under her breath. Her feet stumble over to the crib a few feet from their bed and her honey brown eyes lay on the warm, tiny bundle of bones, skin, and muscle wrapped beneath her. “Oh, Tori. Please be quiet for mommy and daddy. We want to sleep in just once this millennia. You won’t have any idea how hard it is to run Tyler and Reed Enterprises for another eighteen years.”
Torrance bounces from the bed and to his feet. “I think he just yearns for your attention.”
“I think he’s just hungry.”
“Exactly. He wants some attention from those delicious D’s just like I will when he’s finished.” Torrance trudges over to his family and cradles his head in his wife’s neck.
“This is perfect.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For a second.
“Torrance.” Crystal can feel the burn. The burn of almost ten years without him and...Those arms that make the whole Moon tumble out of existence. The burn comes from behind her eyes when she remembers that she simply can not love him. “No! I don’t love you! I don’t want to be with you! I love, Jet! Okay? And...and I think he loves me too, so just get over it Torrance Tyler! You are not every girl’s fuck fantasy!”
Torrance nods his head. For a second Crystal sees the forming of a tear for the second time in one of the loves of her life’s eyes. He shakes his head again. He shakes it this time to check if there is any hope at all of not remembering how it felt to hold her after so long. “I understand. You can...go back to him.” Torrance is sure that his heart has stopped beating and that his body has forgotten all motor and respiratory functions. “It’s not like I’m giving you permission...” His voice trails into the fire leaving only the cloudy smoke behind. “Do you want a ride home?” Torrance doesn’t finish the first half of the sentence before she is out the door.
