Wake up calls and Farewells
Wake up calls and Farewells
Two faces moved closer to a sleeping form until one was by each ear “COYOTE WAKE UP!” they screamed causing the once sleeping person to shoot up and glare at the other two nearby. “What the hell was that for?” The awoken girl stretched and yawned arching her back while letting out small mewling noises.
Looking at the friend on the left, she threw a paper ball right between her deep-set blue eyes and her straight, practically multicolored; elbow length hair flew in her face as she jerked back almost like Coyote punched her instead. Jira, which was her name, was not very tall and her clothes were too big but her confused face made the once sleepy girl laugh.
Turning to her right she saw the droopy, greenish hazel eyes of her other friend, Firefly. Her wavy, neck-length hair drew the colors of the sun into itself. She smiled hiding her laughter behind her hands. “So you thought that was funny huh?” Coyote dove and punched Jira in the shoulder causing the girl to jump back in pain. “Oww…Cyot!” The whining voice echoed as Coyote crossed her arms in cockiness.
A bell rung and the three girls yanked their stuff out of the empty seats behind them and went into the hallway of Timber Rain High School and College. Outside in the cool rain filled air Jira, Firefly and Coyote ran through the mud-filled fields to get to the last college class of the day before they were caught in a mud slinging fight.
Stumbling in the room Jira and Coyote shook off the rain like dogs as Firefly batted at the flying water droplets coming at her laughing at the two. “Coyote you’re not a dog stop that!” Firefly glared at the dog imitating teen. “You know what? Bow wow.” Coyote almost fell over laughing as Firefly attempted to hurt her.
“HEY, stop that. I want no messing around in here; take it outside if you’re going to play, but if you three are ready now, please take your seats.” All three jerked to a man that could have been easily mistaken as a woodsman with his shaggy pepper hair and overgrown beard that went so well with his plaid shirt and old jeans. “Yes sir.” The sat down pouting as the bell rang and tests were handed out to the class but it still would not, could not stop the three from talking during it.
Barely twenty minutes had passed before the old ‘faithful’ fire bell went off and kids jumped to get out. Teachers tried to calm the out of control student body but it seemed useless. However, the strangest thing was the high school and the college was evacuated, which was an almost never to do unless it was a serious matter.
Coyote, Firefly and Jira moved from pocket to pocket of groups looking for a few friends, and for what happened. No one seemed to know and there was no smoke coming from the building so fire was out of the question. The rain still did not let up and luckily, for the girls anyway, they were not wearing white.
Jumping up looking through crowds Jira pointed to another group of people “Hey, there’s Bunnie! BUNNIE!” Jira screamed with no sense that someone else’s ears were close by. “What the fuck Jira! Back OFF!” Coyote rubbed her ears glaring at the smaller girl with utter disgust.
Laughing Jira ran over to a petite built freshman with aquatic colored eyes and shoulder length dark brown hair with the shine of purple dye sparkling off it. The two talked animatedly for a few minutes before they came over to Firefly and saw that Coyote caught interest in a different conversation that seemed to be going with the staff.
“Skank come on!” Bunnie grabbed a handful of Coyote’s once brown hair now dyed black, waist length hair. “OW! Let go of me you whore!” Coyote snarled trying to listen more to the conversation the teachers were having without being caught.
After yanking her away, they went over to where Bunnie’s group was. Coyote silently disappeared into the crowd to go back towards the teachers as soon as Bunnie let go. “What’s she up to?” A tall, lanky, blonde-haired fluffed into an Afro; upperclassman asked putting his arm around Bunnie.
“I think she’s trying to find out what happened.” Firefly studied the way Coyote or Cyot for short was sneaking around the group of teachers. “I think those hippie parents of hers should have named her Sly Fox…don’t you?” Firefly looked at the others in curiosity.
Reaching up scratching his blonde Afro in confusion. “Yeah it fits better than Coyote anyway ha-ha, um err that is who you are talking about right?” Bunnie looked at him as if he grew another head. “Lee…get a clue. Yes we are talking about Coyote!” Bunnie rolled her eyes at him then patted his shoulder “its okay we know you tried at least”
“I’ve thought about that…and you’re right she’s way too sneaky for her own good…hey everyone’s parents are hippies in this town! I resent that statement.” Jira crossed her arms watching Coyote with stern interest.
Spinning around the purplish brown waved out. “On what grounds! What is there to resent? Oh maybe the pants they wear… our parents are way too absorbed with the past I mean the 60’s were like 75 years ago!” Bunnie snorted crossing her own arms in slight anger. “And anyway you should know by now that history likes to repeat itself…” Bunnie’s eyes deepened in color as she looked at Coyote who was now heading back to them with a gloomy look on her face her once true sapphire colored eyes were now a sadden dead greenish blue and her once bouncy hair was too damp to do anything but stick to her.
Jira looked at Firefly in fear “Uh oh I haven’t seen that look since…well you know…when HE went away a year ago.” Firefly kept her eyes trained on Coyote as she drew closer a deep frown across her face. Jira kept trying to talk to her anyway.
“Cyot, what’s the buzz?” A shorter girl with brown hair and hazel eyes stepped up next to the blonde-haired afro teen, her face set like stone staring into the pissed off eyes of her close friend. Who in turn connected eye contact snarling under her breath “It seems there are aircrafts in our atmosphere and whoever is in them says they’re going to get rid of the taint once and for all.” Coyote’s eyes flickered to the gray clouds above, the rain was still falling, and teens were freezing. “The countdown will start when the Lunar Rainbow can be seen.”
They all looked from one to another, then back at the angered girl in front of them. “So what do we do now Coyote?” Bunnie spoke in a small voice that made her sound much younger than she really was. Coyote fingered the small silver pentagon around her neck “I have a few ideas…but I think I should…I’m heading home…I have to think” Coyote’s anger seemed to drain away within seconds and sadness took over her pale features. “Anyone want a lift back home? Shiva?” Coyote looked at each one.
Shiva tugged on Cyot’s black collar until she looked at the smaller girl again. “You think too much. You know I love you Coyote so just…be careful and let us know what you have cooked up for this. We believe in you.” Shiva stepped back and started to play with her brown hair nervously letting Jira crush the poor girl in a hug. “Get home safe…I left my book in there so I have to wait.” Jira stepped back and Bunnie smiled at her long time friend “I’ll see you home okay? My books are still in class.”
Firefly gave a sincere smile “Don’t do anything too hectic Cyot, we need you around to fight the aliens.” Firefly laughed shaking her head, pulled out her cell phone, “I’m calling Loki”, and turned away not catching the anger taking control over Coyote’s features.
Shiva’s eyes went from Coyote to Firefly and frowning deeply. “They are not aliens they are dragons.” The reddish brown in Coyote’s eyes began to take over making her eyes glow eerily. Gasping Shiva darted her eyes around to the ground and spotted a near by puddle without a word she dove stomping into it getting everyone close enough dirty.

“You guys suck.” Coyote laughed shaking off the anger and pulled out the keys to her black Mustang her family chipped in to buy. “I’ll text you all later if I think of anything.” Coyote walked off and into the crowd wiping at the mud on her pants and soon the only thing left was the clang of chains on her bondage pants going further away.
“What do you think she has planned?” Bunnie turned to Lee and rested her head on his arm since his shoulder was too high. He looked down at her and shrugged “With that girl it could be anything” turning he watched the other teens play mud/water games.
Shiva looked up into the sky. Past the polluted air, past the rain, past the clouds, and as far as she could see prayed to the gods and goddesses that lived up there to help them all. “I have a feeling craft will come in handy for this disaster.” Shiva shook her head and joined a mud fight a few feet away.
“I wanna join!” Bunnie ran after Shiva with Lee a few feet behind her. “Bunnie watch out for the puddle!” Bunnie crashed to the ground. “Too late.” Lee shook his head laughing.
Shiva came over and looked at the girl “Aww you poor thing.” Laughing she started to run in the direction Coyote went “I’m going home see ya!” and into the crowd she dove.
Weaving around she ran to the student parking lot where the black mustang was ready about to pull out onto the highway with two bodies inside. “CYOT!” Screaming at the top of her lungs Shiva ran to the automobile, as it did not take off as she thought it would.
The door opened and a skinny, blue-eyed girl stepped out pushing the chair up for Shiva to jump in. “Hey Shiva.” She ran a hand through her damp blonde shoulder length hair, throwing water drops out of it.
Looking at her Shiva shrugged and jumped in the back “Hey Gina what are you doing here?” Shiva made eye contact with the older teen through the rear view mirror before turning back to Gina.
Laughing the younger teen turned in her seat looking at Shiva. “You think I’d pass up a free ride? You don’t know me very well then!” Laughing louder she turned around messing with her book bag for a few cds.
Shiva shot Coyote another look but this one questioning and being so close to the older teen she understood perfectly. “She knows Shiva so you can speak freely” Coyote took the book of cds from Gina and started to flip through it as the mustang slowly heated up.
Sighing she glanced from one to the other “Okay then…what did you mean by dragons?” Shiva narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“Dragons are waiting above us. Yes real live dragons, with huge wings and armor plate scales and razor sharp claws in short, big lizards with wings that can breathe fire. Dragons.” Coyote turned looking at Shiva with extreme seriousness glowing deep in her true sapphire eyes.
Glancing outside she turned back to where Coyote sat “I saw what you see, Cyot.” Shiva sighed depressingly and Coyote reached over touching her knee. “At least you don’t hear what I hear.” Turning she sat back up looking for a cd.
Turning from one to the other Gina opened her mouth “Are you going to take this to your witch counsel?” Gina snapped her gum noisily.
Shiva and Coyote shot each other a look and then at Gina. “Yeah I guess I have to now don’t I.” This time Coyote sighed depressingly. “Are you sure? I mean this could still be a bluff.” Shiva frowned looking at the older teen that was nodding in response.
Gina shrugged not really understanding what was going on but tried anyway. “Let’s all go home and get some sleep.” Gina chirped loudly, which in turn made Coyote laugh. “Gina you know I don’t sleep bad dreams come when I sleep.” Smiling sadly Coyote revved the engine and pulled out pushing the gas until they were going 70 mph.
“I’m taking you two to your homes, and then I’ll go to the witch counsel alone I am the High Priestess of the clan here after all and I rather not have you guys yelled at too.” Coyote shot Shiva a commanding look that sent her eyes to cast downward in agreement.
Nodding at the mission she gave herself Coyote pressed the gas harder. “Hold on tight guys! I have the need for speed!” Coyote laughed rock metal came blaring though the speakers all over the car.
Fighting to get in their seatbelts Shiva and Gina screamed at once “COYOTEEEEE!” In addition, the two teenage girls held on for their lives as Coyote let loose her anger through speeding along the highway.
The dead leaves began to stick to the windshield and the rain hit harder forcing Coyote to slow down so her wipers could work well enough for her to see. “Coyote I don’t feel right.” Shiva whispered nervously grabbing for her seatbelt. “I know…OH SHIT HOLD ON!” Coyote spun the wheel as an eighteen-wheeler pulled out in front of them from a near by ramp, skidding through to their lane and started to flip over. Coyote, Shiva and Gina screamed as the mustang slammed into the truck and cars hit them from behind crushing and trapping them into the car that was now a ticking time bomb ready to blow.
Looking back as the blood ran down Coyote’s face, she sent a prayer to the Goddess to watch over them safely as Shiva was being crushed and trapped on her back the seatbelt not on. Gina was twisted in a weird angle with a bar of steel that had come through her side pinning her up to the dashboard and her seatbelt. Coyote looked down to why she couldn’t turn and found a bar going through her stomach, opening her mouth all that would come up was blood and “Fuck” then all was black.
