The Fates Have Written

Chapter 2


Seventeen years later…


It had been seventeen years since Lukeius was born now that of a young teenager soon to be an adult in a couple more years. Luke had been given a swell life but for him their were just some things that not even money could buy. He was waited on day and night by the palace servants. He ate the best of foods that the kingdom possessed and had the luxury that any villager would ever dream of. Though being a prince had its advantages in some areas their were also some disadvantages. Such as not being able to leave the palace unless accompanied by two soldiers.


Sometimes Luke wished that he could grow wings and fly away and be free of so many responsibilities. The young prince got bored quite easily; he didn’t really have any friends except Rupert his dog. Their was no one around the palace who was his age, of course Luke wasn’t the particular type who really made any friends no matter the age.


It was a fine afternoon and Luke was lying on a branch in a tree in the palace court yard enjoying the soft melody the birds made. Until his peacefulness was disturbed by a young hand maiden telling him that the king wanted an audience with his son. Luke jumped down from his resting place and headed towards the palace library were his father was waiting.


Two guards opened the large library doors allowing the prince entrance into the room. Luke saw his father sitting on the lovely couch made out of fine velvet of red and gold. However his father was not alone standing near the window was a young gentleman facing his back towards the prince. “Luke I would like to introduce you to Feramor” the young man turned around and faced Luke.


“It is an honor to meet you your highness and might I say you have a lovely home” Feramor said why bowing. Luke looked at the man before him and could roughly say he was at least twenty or twenty one give or take. “Thank you and welcome to Roseania” Luke replied to his guest.


“Feramor will be tutoring you from now on son, I have seen the lack of study you are performing and might I say I am not impressed, that is why I have called for Feramor he is a great teacher and will deffiently help you improve your studies” Lumius told his bewildered son. “Father I mean no disrespect towards Feramor for what I am about to say but aren’t you being a bit extreme I mean with this tutoring thing, I will admit that my studies have taken a rather fall lately but that is not really my fault since I have other responsibilities besides reading books” Luke told his father.


Lumius looked at his son for a minute before speaking again “please keep him up to date Feramor and make sure he improves I don’t want my heir to have no knowledge when he becomes king” and with that said Lumius left the library leaving Luke and his new tutor on their own. Luke knew that he wasn’t able to talk his way out of this situation so he just had to handle it from now on.


“Well since you are now in my care shall we get started” Feramor walked over to the couch and laid out some paper and the book he had been holding since he first arrived. Feramor looked up and noticed the prince just standing their “will you be joining me or not”. Luke felt rather uncomfortable around this man he had just met and wished he could flee and go back to the old willow tree outside. Unfortunately for him he had no choice but to sit down and listen to what his new tutor had to say.


“This is a tiny bit awkward for me as well your highness but let me assure you I don’t bite” Feramor told the young prince. That last comment brought a shiver up the young boy’s spine but Luke sat down wanting this to all be over. “Now let’s start with geography how well are you are with this topic” Feramor asked Luke.


It had been a while but Feramor was done for the day and started to pack everything up. “I would like you to read this book tonight it will help at our next lesson” and with that Feramor left the library. “I’m so glad that’s over I don’t think I could have handled that much longer” Luke laid down on the couch and started to fall asleep. Feramor was walking down that hallway when suddenly a soft voice stopped him in his tracks. He turned around and saw the queen standing before him. “Your majesty” Feramor bowed before her “you may rise; I take it that the lesson went well with my son” Satisha asked him. “Yes quite well, you have a very bright son I have given him a few books to read which will improve him with his next lesson” Feramor explained to her.


“I am sure it will help, my son is quite handsome isn’t he” Satisha walked over to the window “many ladies are in love with Lukeius but he does not love them back, I sometimes worry that he may never find a young maiden of his liking” Feramor noticed the sad look on the queens face. “I am sure that there is a young lady out their who will catch the princes eye so do not fret my queen for love will soon strike the young boys heart” Feramor told her. Satisha looked at the young man before her “you are to kind young Feramor my husband has made the right choice with bringing you here and I am sure my son will see that as well” with that said Satisha walked away.


Feramor smiled and walked the other direction looking forward to his next lesson with the young prince.
