Silent Relationship
Chapter 2 . Normal Kaito
Silent Relationship
Chapter 2
I don’t know how, or when exactly, but seeing a knife being pointed right at your face, does something to your adrenaline glands. I recall ducking, then punching my attacker where it counted the most. While the one with the knife doubled in pain, the guy to his left had kneeled down in concern and that left me enough space to simply shove the other guy aside. The only thing I remember after that was running.
Running all the way, pass the entrance I usually took, around the building to the back gate. I didn’t stop running even as the gate silently swung shut and mechanically locked behind me, up the stairs, down the left hallway and finally pass the door on the right. Fumbling with my keys I finally got the door open, having slammed it shut and locked, only then did I allow my legs to give way as I dropped on to the floor panting.
-------------------------------------
I scanned the emptying dojo, the top row of the bleachers was already vacant, the crown all funneling out the Dojo’s exit. Frowning, I moved closer to the decreasing crowd, searching among the masses for that familiar face.
“Kaito!”
I heard my name being called, turning around to see my vice-captain running towards me, grinning like he usually did. He joined me at the back of the crowd heading out.
“Looking for your room-mate? Moku, was it?” said vice-captain, Casey, as he slung our club’s duffle over his shoulder. I only nodded my head in reply as I tried to discreetly look out for my room-mate.
“He’s not here if you’re looking for him,” Casey said knowingly as I shot him a glare, just why the hell does this guy seem to know everything? Laughing my look away, Casey continued, “He had left soon after the match ended. Seemed like he didn’t want to go down to where the crowd was, y’know, the crowd that was surrounding the captain of the Aikido club.” He added teasingly, earning him a smack upside his head from me. Sobering up, he kept his silence as we finally walked out of the Dojo.
Taking a deep breath of the cool night air, I exhaled, feeling the tension that I had put myself in lately fade away, a little.
“You can finally relax now eh?” The red-head next to me said, breaking the peaceful silence, I shot him a questioning look as the nerve grinned back in response. We stopped walking outside Casey’s hostel building’s entrance, mine was still a bit further down.
“Gotta admit it, you were such a prick before the competition, like a walking time bomb man! – OUCH!” I had faithfully delivered another smack to his head, seriously, only he got away so lightly with calling me such names, others would never dare. But… what he said did make me think. I was rather wound up before the competition, recalling how I would snap at anyone, recalling how people would take extra care to stay away from me in the hallway… recalling how Moku kept throwing worried glances at me when we were at home… Moku…
An exasperated sigh escaped my lips, I seriously owed Moku an apology… despite wanting to deny it, I knew that I had treated him like shit these past few days, and I didn’t even explain why. Fuck… how many times did I fuck him last night? Argh shit man…
“What’s up Kaito?” Casey asked when I had reached up to rub my temples, a slight frown to his Caucasian features. Shaking my head, I looked back up managing a sheepish grin before we went out separate ways.
-------------------------------------
Darkness greeted me as I closed the door behind, locking it. Kicking of my sneakers, using my toes to pick them up, placing them on the rack next to Moku’s. Seeing the other’s pair there brought me sighing in relief, he’s back home safe… should have told him to wait for me, the principle warned us students not to be anywhere alone after dark. The recent mugging incidences have gotten closer around the school boarding houses and the off-campus hostel area.
Walking pass the dinning slash living room and the tiny kitchen, I crept into the bedroom quietly leaving the door open so the hallway light dimly lit the room. Chucking my duffle on the left side of the study table and then changing out into more comfortable clothes thankfully having already showered before leaving school.
Our two futons which we had placed next to each other were now separate, it wasn’t an odd sight. Most of the time it was me who would drag our futon’s together, occasionally Moku would, and when day came we would fold it up and keep them away (well most of the time). So sometimes, when one of us came home first and headed to bed early, the futon’s would be separated.
Pinching the front of my t-shirt, I fanned myself, looking around to see that the windows were closed behind the blinds and that the fan was not switched on – yet, Moku was huddled in his corner with the thick blankets covering him. I kept my gaze on Moku as I walked over to the windows and opened them slightly. A gust of cool wind blew into the room causing the blinds to smack me on the head.
A soft groan brought me out of my glaring with said blinds, the sound had brought my attention shifting back to Moku. The mound of blanket trembled, and I blinked again edging closer. It couldn’t have been that cold could it? The closer I got, the more prominent Moku’s trembling became and it only caused me to frown deeper.
“Moku?” I tried calling out, peering over his shoulder to take a peep at his face, finding that he had brought the blankets high enough to cover half of it. Shaking him a little only got a soft whimper out of him. Instinctively, I reached forward and placed my hand over his forehead.
My arm jerked at the shock of the temperature I was not expecting…
Moku was running a high fever.
